1619: The people are sick of the current government, they form a group called "Red Justice" lead by Arnold the Dark. Red Justice starts a civil war agianst the government. Red Justice loses the civil war but half of the nation is in ruins and a famine starts all over the land.

Meanwhile in the Frontier Republic...
1550-1619: The constant chaos in Jenniferia is the first major incentive to cause mass immigration to the new continent. New Portbarry, the former island fort just southeast of the continent, becomes a center of trade in the new continent. However, most immigrants choose to immigrate to the Frontier Republic instead of New Portbarry, which is constantly ravaged by tropical diseases due to its warm, wet, climate. The Frontier Republic has the closest cultural similarities with Jenniferia compared to other colonies started by other nations on the continent, but it still has developed a distinct culture during it's hundreds of years of neglect from Jenniferia before it's "rediscovery". However, the nation's population of 200,000 "fronters" (the slang name for Frontier Republic citizens) suddenly increases to 1,100,000 in the years between 1550 and 1619, mostly due to immigrants from Jenniferia with much closer cultural ties to their homeland. The immigrants are almost completely dirt-poor -literally, as most were subsistence farmers back in Jenniferia. A system of indentured servitude (if you don't know what this is look it up) becomes common because of this, a prelude to the horrors of slavery that would soon arrive in the new continent. This situation obviously causes tensions between the richer, more powerful but outnumbered Frontier Republicans, (the more formal namefor their citizens) and the poorer new arrivals. Descendants of the F.R's original settlers in elected positions begin to be rapidly replaced by people from the newer wave of immigration.

1620: Third-rate explorer and renowned idiot Helmack Telvar proclaims that he has discovered an ancient book belonging to a secret society, containing the location of a new continent with plentiful resources, precious metals and "a waterfall as high as the sky itself". Chartering a ship and hiring a crew, he sets sail. Shortly after his departure, it is discovered that his "ancient book" is in fact a very battered copy of a badly translated Helaxic children's story, about learning not to jump to conclusions.

1621: Telvar, however, gets lucky and does actually find a new distant land-although the area he found is unfortunately only a desert wasteland that he names (obviously) Telvarsland. Telvarsland, or at least this area of Telvarsland, is completely empty of sources of food, but Telvar tries to set up a colony anyways. Telvar's crew, realizing that they will soon run out of food if they don't immediately sail back to New Portbarry to resupply, mutinies and sails away, leaving Telvar stranded on the continent. Telvar, being an idiot, didn't take enough food for the journey back anyways, and the ship arrives in New Portbarry with only half of its crew still alive. Telvar is never seen again.
300 years later, oil is discovered in Telvarsland. One worker describes the Barren Point gusher as "a waterfall coming from the sky itself".

Well, I'm hard pressed to come up with a proper history, so please don't mind the time skip.

1703: After continued turmoil and wars, the Empire (renamed the Jenniferian Alliance of Nations) experienced a prolonged period of peace and prosperity, and the Non-Confederated Alliance is quietly and slowly dismantled over the years as more and more of its members start dropping out. Alexi VIII is chosen by the Council of Royal Succession to replace Alexi VII after his death in 1703, after which he starts drafting laws to decentralize the Jenniferian government, in an attempt at more closely resembling the Frontier Republic and replicate their continued success trade wise.

1709: However, the New Sun still retains its popular image as a totalitarian regime. In 1709, after a severe famine which the government had done nothing to stop, the Lower Kingdom of Bordeline is taken by Bordeline nationalists-though not the kind of nationalists that you might imagine. They've also adopted many new enlightenment ideas and want to form a republic. (Comparable to the IRL 1848 liberal German nationalist failed revolutions in southern Germany and Austria.) The poster below can decide what happens next...

1709, continued: The New Sun, sensing a lost cause, gives the Bordeline nationalists the Lower Kingdom, with a treaty stating that the new Bordeline Republic stay friendly to the Jenniferian Alliance, with the consequences of hostilities being the annexation of the republic.

1712: The few remaining colonies of the Alliance issue a proclamation, declaring their independence from the Alliance, and the formation of a union amongst themselves. The Alliance's response is... (OOC: the job of the next poster to decide)

1713: The Alliance's response is to declare war on the colonies. The colonies are quickly forced back into the Alliance.

1713-1714: Although hot air balloons were invented 200 years ago, they have not been made to serve any practical purposes, and are mostly novelties for inventors and aristocrats. However, a teenage kitsune from Del-Kasha and his uncle have designed a balloon with moveable surfaces that provide directional control, and announce that they are going to attempt a flight around the world. Loaded with food and supplies, their somewhat large craft takes off from the Del-Kasha capital city of Mirage on the western coast of the continent, also carrying a governor from the Frontier Republic and a journalist from the Sigil Coast.
They cross an ocean and land in a nation similar to IRL Japan called Mishina. Although they are immediately taken into custody by soldiers, the Emperor of Mishina is impressed with their tales of lands across the ocean, and gives him supplies for the remainder of his journey in return for being allowed to join them (his loyal wife will rule in his absence).
The craft crosses high over various exotic lands without stopping, its occupants spending weeks in the air. Running out of supplies, they end up crashing in the eastern part of the Confederation, starving. They stay for several months while the two kitsunes have the balloon rebuilt, and tell the leader of the Confederation of their journey.
Once the craft is reconstructed, they set out over the ocean to try to return to their starting continent, only to have winds blow them south and strand them floating in the open sea, their craft wrecked. After two weeks, they are found by a Frontier scout ship that takes them to the Frontier Republic. From there, it is several more months of overland travel back to Mirage, where they are given a hero's welcome after a year of travel. By the time they return, Mishina has sent ships across the ocean to meet and trade with Del-Kasha. One of them takes the Emperor back to Mishina, where he returns to power.
The various accounts written by those who made the journey remain one of the classic pieces of literature to the modern day. However, the trip did little to convince people in power of the practicality of flight. The only exception was the Emperor of Mishina, whose experiments with the technology proved fruitless.

1718-1727: Aiden Merrilt attempts to popularize hot air balloon travel using the new steering technology and balloons soon become an increasingly popular form of transportation for those rich enough to use it regularly. This suddenly ends in 1727, though, when a hot air balloon crashes with both Merrilt and Alexi VIII on board. All 18 people on board die. From then on, balloons are once again ignored as a practical form of transportation. To this day there is debate about whether or not this was an accident or sabotage from radical Purplists. Marcus III is crowned following the disaster.

Autonomous states are created but they do not last. War is declared and Jenniferia undergoes a quick civil war. The people take hold of the capital and eventually the former government collapse. Of course the people had no idea how they would run their nation. So, at the end of all the fighting, no prominent figures choose to lead the nation leaving it vulnerable to attacks.
1737 (Jan-Mar): The New City of Deskartiel, a city state from the north who recently founded a new religion, Zeck, declares a holy war against the devastated Jenniferia and...

Of course the people had no idea how they would run their nation. So, at the end of all the fighting, no prominent figures choose to lead the nation leaving it vulnerable to attacks.
1737 (Jan-Mar): The New City of Deskartiel, a city state from the north who recently founded a new religion, Zeck, declares a holy war against the devastated Jenniferia and...

1738-1750: takes much land, but can't take enough before religious minorities rise up and destabilize the city-state. Jenneferia takes back land that was taken over and Deskartiel itself.

In the meantime, in the Empire, a revolution occurs by disgruntled Jacobins. Dissatisfied with the Empire's treatment of the poor, they rise up and establish the Revolutionary Republic of the New Sun. Jenneferia and Darcilia declare war on them, but the Republic has a genius corporal named Gapoleo Bonné.

OOC: Yes, let's restart, it was getting hard to keep track of the history of V-M.
9-15 AFZ: A drought occurs in 9 AFZ, and 1/3 of the nation's population dies. In 13 AFZ, the tribal leaders decide that the entire population needs to move and find a new home since the oases they lived around had all dried up. More of the remaining population dies during the journey, leaving the nation with only half of its original population. In 15 AFZ the leaders finally find something miraculous: a huge oasis, filled with water as far as the eye can see! They later find out that the oasis is actually part of an ocean with water too salty to drink, but they don't care because there are enough fish to solve any problems with food for a while. They find the water they need at a nearby spring and manage to defeat the locals who had controlled it before their arrival.
Current population: 50,000, but this will be increasing soon.

...yes...good idea. I was just concerned that the RP was getting more and more inactive because new players didn't understand the history of Jenniferia and felt discouraged to post. (I eventually decided that maintaining the history of each country was impractical, and that it was bringing me more stress than fun, and fun is what F7 is supposed to be about, and I'm just lazy. ) However, I think this is a better idea: Experienced players who already know the Jenniferian timeline can post in the Jenniferian timeline, while newer players can post in the new tribe timeline. This might get confusing though...so should we split the tribal history off to another thread to avoid the confusion?

Actually...could the "formal" Jenniferia thread be in the Arts/Fiction thread? There I would no longer have to restart once in a while because the thread would no longer have to appeal to new players, because the thread would no longer need to be active. We could also write history as complicated as we wanted there, without the normal F7 restrictions. I'm just not sure whether or not this kind of thread would belong in A/F.

1750-1754: Nearby monarchies, fearing that the RRNS would encourage revolutions in their home countries as well, declare war on Jenniferia as the Second League of Trelaia. Both sides fight from 1751 to 1754 through the swamps and fields of Relsenia, where the League is able to gain some land but cannot attack the heavily fortified capital of Relsenport. The situation in Relsenia becomes a stalemate. Meanwhile, further to the northeast, the League assemble a massive (by 1753 standards) army of 600,000 men that finally meets Bonne's army of 400,000 in Stolta, a small city in the Jenniferian province of Tralvia. The League outnumber Jenniferian troops and locals support the League, but Bonne is in a good position geographically, has the advantage of defending, and is a master tactician. Who will win...

21-46 AFZ: Zoltonland adopts new technological advances during the invasion and they eventually liberate their provinces. One thing that Zoltonland does is make large canals. The canals stretch across the desert and allow Zoltonland to grow crops farther inland. Agricultural advances over this short time pave the way towards a much more prosperous nation. The kingdom of boctiv collapses in the east and many flee to the inland tribe. The population booms, reaching 80,000, although about half of the citizens are opressed Daloeans who escaped Boctiv, and this causes culture clashes between Daloeans and Zoltoners.
