The Golden Civics' Clauses

Individual Clause- There will be no whips when it comes to voting on legislation or elections.

Leadership Clause- The party's leadership structure will include the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Party Messenger:

~The Chairman will be the leader of the party, be in charge of the day to day affairs, and negotiations and other interactions with other parties
~The Vice Chairman will serve as the assistant leader of the party, filling in for the Chairman when they are not present or able to.
~The Party Messenger will be the one to recruit and send messages regarding voting.

These positions will be decided in the beginning. However, if a member feels unsatisfied with the leadership of the party, then he/she may announce their candidacy and if they received an amount of endorsements equivalent to one-fourth of the entire active party, then a 48 hour election period will occur. A recount may be requested by anyone.

Amending Clause- If a member wants to amend/change a part of the platform, party structure, or Clause section, then they need at least five other members agreeing with them. A vote will then follow lasting at least 24 hours.

We support creating school vouchers, to give parents the right to choose where their child goes to school.
We believe parents should have the right to send their kids to whatever school they want and how they want to educate their children.
We believe that the government should establish a grant program for exemplary university students and for poor students that can't afford to go to universities.
We are opposed to a strict national curriculum.

Healthcare:

We believe the Free Market and private enterprise can run Healthcare the most effectively.
We support a basic government healthcare program.

Only three issues for me, first I don't support a land value tax. Only support a negative income tax if it means no other things like Tax credits. I do believe in a national curriculum of some kind, I don't believe it has to be restrictive or overbearing like Common Core in the US but I think it helps make sure there is a minimum standard and a base grounding so the results between pupils from different schools can be compared. Other than that I really like most of it.

In a truly liberal or libertarian society, a national curriculum is unnecessary - instead schools would create their own curriculum's and compete on the market. Greater school choice - like even watered down vouchers (but I have reservations about them but that's another topic) - would theoretically allow parents to pick or choose which school to send their child too, and curriculum would be one of those decisions. The most popular and best schools therefore would be the one with the best curriculum, among other things. One of the libertarian complaints to Common Core is that it removes parental choice from the equation, making the decision solely that of some stonewalled bureaucrat, and allowing any private schools that are forced to exist under it to substantially jack up their prices due to lack of the knowledge on the consumer's part.

This crap wasn't thought up by some philosopher going, "gee, the free market fairy can save all!" (not directed at anyone particular here...) No, rather by two centuries of liberal thought by economists you haven't even heard of. And my explanation above is the simple version, read School Choice: The Findings by Herbert J Walberg for a much more in depth analysis.

Of course, since this is Dragland or whatever, I understand that I can't have it all my way and not everyone is going to agree with the ideas posted - that is why instead of making it all one issue over the other, we make it vague enough to invite debate while still keeping it in a sort of party framework.

Sometimes people RP not about their RL beliefs. Aurentina I was mostly like myself, Baltonia became a racist nationalist, Calaverde I RPed to the left of where I am and now I'm RPing a bit to the right. So out of four incarnations I have only RPed once along my RL beliefs.

Aye I get that, I spent the whole of Calverde rping as Blair who didn't represent my beliefs at all. I just don't get why TLT specifically mentioned Arkolon in relation to our party, since I don't see much to suggest he'd join us specifically (that's why I asked if Ark had changed his views, since I thought I might of been missing something). He probably would of joined you lot, or Anins Centrist bloc, or he would of made his party. I probably just read too much into it.

Arkolon and Atlanticatia I know had several exchanges in early Calaverde to attempt to create a budget that allowed for a social market without going too extreme in one end. I also know (Ark told me this personally) that Arkolon really roleplayed - hell both "OOC" and IC - someone much closer to the center than he actually was.

Dejanic wrote:
Collatis wrote:I've heard that that Collatis guy is pretty reasonable and pragmatic though. :p

I don't get the Arkolon comment, why would he be in our centre-left Soc Dem party when last time I checked he was a centre-right-right Liberal Conservative with Libertarian leanings?

Or did he go through a massive political change that I never heard about?

I'm fairly pragmatic, and I'm happy with working with the centre, and even right leaning parties if necessary, but if this party goes balls to the walls Murican Libertarian like TLT seems to want, then I don't see how we can feasibly work together (that's only my opinion, I only represent myself here, not my party), but if you go more moderate, closer to the centre, like Kelinfort seems to be hinting at, then it'd be easier probably.

Where do I say I want the party to go "balls to the walls Murican Libertarian?" The platform isn't the constitution. I want the platform to be as general as possible so we have room for dissent in the party - the creative tension that allows us to come to more creative decisions than the party line. While we have our limits, I'd rather not close the door on all ideas like I think some of these platforms do. Ideally, principles should be balanced with pragmatism - obviously making the platform full ancap would get us shut out of the government and not taken seriously, but making it fully the either way merely closes it off to this creative tension I am describing. In many ways - like the Democrats and Republicans of America or the Libdems, Conservatives, and Labour of the UK, parties act as a broad tent that have various factions, which I believe is a good thing as it allows these groups to collaborate, compromise, and get the best results out there.

The more we can advertise our party via our signatures, the more people we can get to our side. The more people that we can get to our side, the more influence we have in government. The more influence we have in government, the more likely our proposals will be voted on. And the more likely our proposals are voted on, the more liberal we can make the nation.

A constitutional something. Not an absolute monarchy, or an oligarchy. That should be our only opinion on it, or else if we take a hard stance either way we are going to alienate people.
