"Las Palmeras in 1898 wasn't México in 1846. The local elite was unified. There wasn't any shortage of willing veterans. The Spanish cachés had state-of-the-art weapons then, and the vengeful Spanish preferred to not sign anything with the Americans and then funded and armed the Palmerans with what they could until 1901. The nationalized Church supported resistance. The lack of precise combined arms back then meant mobile layers of defensive forces around key cities or crossroads were optimal, as deemed from the previous local experiences.

Against a numerically overwhelming enemy, the conventional phase was quick. The National Salvation Army inflicted heavy casualties on the Americans before being overrun in the open and virtually wiped out in the Southern islands. In the North, however, where 30-60% mortality rates were the norm in the decades before..."

-Excerpt from a documentary, 1898 to 1905- Birth and Death of the First Republic

"Attacking the Americans very close to civilians did force some of them to try to root out their opponents, house by house- if possible at all because of all the defense points. But many broke gentlemanly conduct and didn't care about the dead civilians or the reprisals. Not that the defenders were gentlemanly at doing this; killing civilians meant the Americans could be blamed moreso and the possible destruction or damage to entire population centers or the workforce denied the enemy of material and human resources: this was the 'all-or-nothing' gambit of the northern National Salvation Army's leaders."

"Expedition log, day 21: Our colony in Cyrodiil grows larger, we built a few houses near the old noble manor, which is used as main facility. So far we are pretty safe, and earn our money through the weapon and alcohol trade mostly, toghether with doing some mercentary work. While in Skingrad, we bought a few spellbooks and soulgems and sent them over to the lab back home.

I personally don't know, how does that mineral keep such energy inside, but know that they are charged, when you kill someone, who is "marked" with some "spell". Which makes it more complicated is that there are two types of that gem. White, which is the most common, and black state... which is very rare to find. White can take energy of non-sapient only, while black seem to be able to take from anyone. We need more studies."- Head of the expedition to other world.

"The US-Palmeran War is a historiographic nightmare. Many American authors consider it began since the start of the American war with Spain, others say directly after the Spanish laid their arms down to the Palmeran staff after the putsch of the local military aristocrats. The Americans sustain it ended when the National Unity Committee's 'salvation' Army was defeated and they conditionally surrendered. In 1899. The insurgency of the Neo-Orientalist Christians from 1899 to 1905 is different. Many Palmerans consider the insurgency to be part of a same movement."

"There is more to guerrilla warfare than knowing how to lay an effective ambush. You have to know the enemy's mind, to know how he thinks, what he wants, what he fears, and what he hopes to bring about by being here in the first place. If you don't know those things, all the tactical victories in the world won't help you."

"Never forget the crimes of our enemies. Never forget how they tried to exterminate us, never forget the death marches, the einsatzgruppen, Unit 731. Never forget the crimes of the imperialists, the atrocities they committed wherever they set foot. Never forget what happened to the Americas, to Africa, to India, to Australia. Never forget how the aristocracy and bourgeoise attempted to suppress us, how they tried to enslave us, and never, ever forget how we rose up against them and annihilated them in the fires of our glorious revolution. This is why we fight, to prevent such crimes from ever happening again, to emancipate all the peoples of the world, and establish a unified nation of all humanity under the Red Banner. We are the vanguard of a bright new future."

"Guerilla Warfare is a stratagem based solely upon drawing out a war much longer than it should last. It is one of, if not the only, answer a much weaker state has against a much stronger state. It is based on the logic that, if the war lasts longer, the cost of overtaking the weaker state will outweigh any benefit the stronger state may gain. Eventually, the stronger state will become so eager to wash its hands of the ordeal that it will sue for a peace that, while not essentially in favour of the weaker state, will garuntee the survival of the weaker state. Guerrilla Warfare, essentially, is the last tool any military or organized society of some sort has against a superior force when any method of comventional resistance is dried up. Guerrilla Wafare is based around maintaining the image of a continuing conflict as well as actually continuing the conflict itself. This way both material and political will are dried up as the Guerillas have an air of paradoxical immortality as they never seem to cease crashing upon the battlements of the stronger state's occupying force and at the very least cost the occupiers money in refilling their ammunition. I call this paradoxical immortality because most guerrilla operations actually fail, the guerrillas attack, maybe ruin a convoy or two, and then the following retaliation eradicates the guerrilla unit or at the very least forces it to route. Any guerrilla force capable of winning any significant tactical victory, given the logistical sacrifices that must be made to maintain a low-profile defensive operation in occupied territory, is worthy of actual commendation. Notable Guerilla Warfare examples are the Viet Cong operations in the Vietnam War, the Spanish resistance against Napoleon in the Napoleonic Wars and the Citizen-militias of the American Revolutionary War. The first drained the domestic political will of the occupying state. The second bled the resources of the occupying state to the point that its other political rivals could capitalize on this weakness and defeat the occupier in turn. The third did both, chipping away the will of the monarchy and exposing resources to attack from political rivals. On international support, Guerilla Warfare is somewhat reliant on a rival power supporting the Guerillas, the Viet Cong were supported by the Soviets, Spanish by the British and Americans by the French. A Guerilla effort in many ways needs a third party sponsorship, at the very least for the sake of organization in some cases. For example, the Free French Army was actually not the only French resistance organization during World War Two, but it was the one sponsored by the Allies and thus the one with more legitimacy than all the others, as several resistance forces were actually fighting each other for the support of the French people and resources the Allies were air-dropping into the country. As for global image... Global image has never mattered in Guerilla War, the only thing that has ever mattered is the images of the occupier and occupied and what this image is to the populaces of both forces. If the occupied believe that the war is done and done and just want to get the occupation over with, the Guerilla can fight as long as they wish but they will lose as they are transformed from noble resistance fighter for liberty and independence into a discontent rabble that makes life harder for everyone else. If the occupier believes that the war will come to no advantageous end for th cost, the occupier's military suffers the same fate of defeat as they are transformed from noble liberators or rightful conquerors into brutish imperialists or soldiers dying for nothing. To put this in other words, the world as a whole has a large stomach for tyranny in other countries, but countries themselves have little stomach for tyranny when it involves their own military forces and/or the military forces of a foreign nation in their country."

"We saw the iron birds fly, and they brought forth the rods of death. Anywhere it touched, a great fire would appear, and consume all in its wake. After the iron birds, the iron beasts came in different forms. Sometimes large, other times small. They wielded swords and spears that made a noise louder than the church bells. They spat flames, flames that brought death at the blink of an eye. No matter how much we fought and prayed the death would not cease. The divine has abandoned us, all is lost. I love you, my dear wife. You will never see me again."
