Jones then rose and walked up to the front. "Fellow Senators, it is my great honor and privilege to introduce to you this afternoon, the President of the Commonwealth of Aurentina."
The President, who turns 46 today, walked up the center aisle of the Senate gallery to the front. Standing before the ruling body of the Commonwealth, he began to speak.
Mr. President Pro-Tempore, Mr. Vice President, Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Opposition Leader, and all Senators of our nation,
I'd first like to thank outgoing President Wulukuno Porunalakai and Prime Minister Ainin, along with many other members of the Progress Coalition, for supporting me in choosing Mr. de Medici to be our next Prime Minister. You have shown great bipartisanship and a desire to work across the aisle for the greater good of the Aurentine people. I promise to return the favor during my tenure as President.
Senator de Medici has shown, during his tenure as a politician, to have this quality in common with Senators Ainin and Porunalakai. He debates his points logically and is willing to compromise and concede points as appropriate. Although he is a libertarian monarchist, he has worked well within the National Freedom Coalition, a majority of whose members are not monarchists, and unlike many other members of coalitions over the years, has not demanded the coalition adopt his beliefs in exchange for his membership. The willingness to work with elected Senators of all parties from all parts of the Commonwealth is something that every prime minister to date has displayed, and it is something that you as Senators from all parties and coalitions should expect from a prime minister. It is this quality that separates a good politician from a bad one, and it is this quality that led me to choose Senator de Medici as my prime minister nominee. Please also understand that he is likely the most moderate member of the coalition whom I could have chosen.
Senators, I look forward to working with you throughout this new administration. Thank you.
OOC: Sorry for the short speech. Got a 3-4 page paper to write and it's due at 5:30 (0030 CEST).
