User conduct in the SC section

Postby Reploid Productions » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:28 pm

Having browsed some of the threads in here, I've come to notice some unsettling trends, particularly in the discussion of C&C rules and so on.

The level of overall nastiness and negative, condescending behavior needs to stop.

Debate is one thing and I am well aware that WA proposal debates can get particularly heated on the floor; however in these debates about C&C rules and such, there is no excuse for the generally obnoxious conduct I'm seeing here. It hasn't quite gotten so far that I feel I need to grab the banhammer and start smacking people, which is why I am instead making this post to put everybody on notice. I would rather have to smack everyone lightly with the cluebat now than have to get called in with the banhammer or the Sword of DEAT later.

You guys can discuss and debate what you want to see C&Cs used for and how the Security Council differs from the General Assembly and so on without acting like a bunch of spoiled children. I sincerely doubt that's what [violet] intended when she set up this subforum, or what Max wanted to see when they set up and implemented the C&C proposal categories in the first place.

As always, if someone goes too far and you believe they are flaming or baiting, you know where to report it.

And some food for thought guys: Those that toe the line between flaming and not flaming invariably will cross that line sooner or later.

Once again, I would suggest updating the OSRS, which still treats the WA forum as though it were another roleplaying forum, which is no longer true for this SC subforum.

HEY! YOU! SC FORUM POSTER!

Postby Ardchoille » Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:52 am

This will be familiar to GA posters. It is an old and well-beloved piece of literature, and I strongly recommend it to posters in this forum as well:.

It all starts way back on October 20, 2005, when the United Nations had not fallen upon its NS rival and lawyer-lettered it to death, when that most perspicacious person, The Most Glorious Hack, wrote this:

The Most Glorious Hack wrote:Seems that once again, the UN forum needs a gentle rap on the knuckles from my ruler.

I've been noticing a disturbing slide in the debate around here, and people seem to be sniping more than usual, and we've had some borderline flames bandied about. This isn't acceptable, especially not in this forum, where you're supposed to be diplomatic.

I've done this once before, and it seemed to work nicely, so here's hoping my luck holds out. This forum has a small group of "regular" posters, who tend to voraciously read everything that's tossed up, which is why I think this particular method will work.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to point fingers or wave around the Nasty Big Stick Of DEAT, I'm just wanting to nip a trend in the bud. There's no warnings being handed out here (not even unofficial ones), but if things continue, I'll have to do just that.

So, please, before you post, take a couple seconds to think about what you're writing. If it's snide, pissy, insulting, flamish, or otherwise inappropriate, either change it or don't post it at all. I really don't want to have to start stomping on posts, so try a little self-policing.

I'm going leave this locked, as it's really just an announcement. After about a week or so, I'll unstick it, and let it sink to the bowels of the forum.

Thank you for your time.

On October 23, 2008, three years later, he felt compelled to write this:

The Most Glorious Hack wrote:Been getting a little snarky in here again. Kicking this back up to the top for your remembering pleasure.

Seven months later, I' brought it to the GA's attention, adding, "Please note that the "no warnings being handed out" line no longer applies; we've got a new supply in, we can afford to be generous."

Wonder if anyone can guess why I posted it again today, in this forum?

Hint: you're diplomats. Diplomats act diplomatic. Geddit?

General Snark and Attitude in Discussions

Postby Euroslavia » Wed Jun 30, 2010 5:36 pm

For the past few weeks now, I've noticed that discussions within the Security Council (a good majority of them being about Rule 4) have made a turn towards personal attacks, insults, and general bad attitudes. This needs to end, now. It's coming from both sides of the argument too. Do not think that just because one side disagrees with the mods, means that we are only going to punish that group of people concerning the amount of personal attacks that've been occurring as of late. I understand the frustration that occurs with arguments, but that's something that's going to happen when you have a strong opinion on a topic, and it gives you no excuse to side-step the actual arguments into personal territory.

In short, let's keep the discussions on point, away from personal insults, and productive. There's nothing wrong with continuing a discussion concerning Rule 4 or perhaps the SC or Gameplayers point of view (along with the opposite point of view), but don't result to insults towards those who've been disagreeing with you for some time now. Use productive methods in trying to help the other point of view see exactly what you mean when you describe your counter point.

If the level of snark and bad attitudes continue, we will be less lenient to those who continue to push personal insults. So put an end to it.
