[DRAFT] Commend Ponderosa

Postby South Olpen » Mon Apr 18, 2022 8:04 am

Hi y'alls! I was looking for a factbook for an alt, and I was thinking about the template, which led me to Ponderosa's truly iconic and helpful overview factbook. This is based on the same grounds as the commendation of Almaster Neuvo, or the first part at least. Please let me know early if you think this will be unpopular due to a..... unclean..... record in R/D. I think I might need help with using WA-approved terms for this. Also, I know it needs to be longer, but I don't know what to expand upon.

The World Assembly,

RECOGNIZING that in this wide and varied world, it is difficult for every nation to scout every other to decide their opinions,

REALIZING that this process could be, and has been, made significantly easier with the use of factbooks, declarations on aspects of a state,

GLORIFYING the people and government of Ponderosa for making a template of informational dispatches that helped other nations display their full color more easily,

VIEWING the 'Collection Collection,' a curated museum of art exhibits from around the world, with awe,

Hereby commends Ponderosa

GLORIFYING the people and government of Ponderosa for making a template of informational dispatches that helped other nations display their full color more easily,

BELIEVING that despite the stance of the nation on raiding regions, a controversial stance among many WA members, but believing this to not detract from the commendable deeds outlined above,

Hereby commends Ponderosa

Don't necessarily think they're commendable and this definitely isn't the draft that's going to do it.
Thanks for drafting on Forums though!

There is definitely a case that they're not commendable enough, but I believe it's possible with a well-written draft, so I am going to try with help. If I can't do it, though, I'll admit it, and hopefully, a more well-rounded author can.

The Ponderosan factbook is plausibly commendable - but I can't help but think you can use fewer words to explain it.

I did not know, and do not care, about Ponderosa's history as a raider.

You are correct. I will remove that. I thought I might use it in the last clause, but I ended up not.

As for the factbook, I understand that it could be simplified, but I can't think of how to describe it without mentioning forums or other gameside words.

And, yes I suppose it detracts from the argument being made, and if not is just brushed off anyway. However, they did defend/try to liberate a region too, should I perhaps add that?

The factbook sounds like a footnote in a larger commendation. Check out their roleplay and see if it's any good. That would form a better backbone for the draft.

What bout this

"GLORIFYING the people and government of Ponderosa for making a template of informational dispatches that helped other nations display their full color more easily,"

It's not shorter, but it is definitely cleaner

Worth noting that Ponderosa also created the original Collection Collection as an innovative list of card collections, which I later volunteered to maintain after they did not have enough time. They might also have other cards achievements, sadly I don't remember a lot since it was likely before I joined.

However, it is true that the proposal lacks on commendable material, so if there's nothing substantial to add, the nominee might not be ready at the moment.

Not a commendable nominee. While Ponderosa has their factbook achievements, they aren't at the level where they are commendable at the moment.

That's definitely possible, but I'll comb through their history to look. And for any R/D historians, did Ponderosa do anything with the failed coffee house liberation?

Probably. Ponderosa seems like the kind of person who might've been in the UDL. You could do some forum research on this, ask Ponderosa themself, or contact ex-UDL leadership to see if they have old logs. But since I'm nice and you seem to be going in a better direction, I'll give you the following resources:

You're actually pretty lucky. That's a lot more info than on many similar invasions.

Anyways, it's probably best if you reach out to Pond about this commendation and their NS roleplay / history, then use that info to help you do some forum / RMB searches (including offsite forums if that seems necessary). Then go back to Pond for any clarifying questions. You'll need them to review your draft prior to submission as well.

Edit: I doubt Pond's role was important.
