[PASSED] Declaration on Crabs of the Apocalypse

Postby Concrete Slab » Sun Sep 26, 2021 9:03 am

I know N-Day isn't over yet, but I figured I should post it now so I can start getting feedback. Please give me all the feedback you can think of! :D

The Security Council,

Lauding the nation of Morover for bringing the attention of this august body to the phenomenon known as N-Day and the creation of groups known as “factions” in Security Council Resolution #369,

Asserting that the sixth instance of N-Day has recently concluded across the multiverse,

Thankful that the home of the Security Council has been left relatively undamaged,

Observing, however, that one faction stood alone atop the smoldering wasteland of the multiverse, a feat never before seen,

Astounded to declare that the faction known as “Crabs of the Apocalypse” has summarily obliterated any other faction that stood in their way with the power of a thousand suns,

Lauding the achievement of the faction, hereafter denoted as “COTA,” for claiming an overwhelming victory against the only other faction who had the ability to challenge them, “The Potato Alliance,”

Impressed that, while The Potato Alliance may have included some of the most expansive regions of nations in the multiverse, they stood no chance against the might of COTA,

Amazed that even after the final stand of The Potato Alliance, COTA sustained little damage and responded with a devastating counterattack,

Noting that the smell of baked potatoes will linger across the multiverse for months to come,

Flabbergasted that once COTA was assured in their dominance, they were able to create many satellite factions that stood stalwart against the multiverse’s most desperate and ultimately futile attacks,

Pleased that, even though COTA had a staggering advantage over any possible opponent, they honored their defense pact with The Potato Alliance for the allotted time period agreed upon by both factions, showing that nuclear dominance can be obtained with decorum and honor,

Curious about the implications this overwhelming show of strength will have on the phenomenon known as “N-Day” in future occurrences,

Terrified that no faction will ever be able to match the strength of COTA for as long as N-Day ensues across the multiverse,

Congratulating COTA for their domination of almost every category possible during the event,

Hereby declares Crabs of the Apocalypse as the victor of the sixth occurrence of N-Day.

Thankful that the home of the Security Council has been left relatively undamaged,

Observing, however, that one faction stood alone atop the smoldering wasteland of the multiverse, a feat never before seen,

Astounded to declare that the faction known as “Crabs of the Apocalypse,” based in a region of the same name, has summarily obliterated any other faction that stood in their way with the power of a thousand suns,

Noting that the smell of baked potatoes will linger across the multiverse for months to come,

Flabbergasted that once COTA was assured in their dominance, they were able to create many satellite factions that stood stalwart against the multiverse’s most desperate and ultimately futile attacks, displaying a victory for crabs everywhere across the top of the multiverse,

Pleased that, even though COTA had staggering advantages over any possible opponent, they honored their defense pact with The Potato Alliance for the allotted time period agreed upon by both factions, showing that nuclear dominance can be obtained with decorum and honor,

Curious about the implications this overwhelming show of strength will have on the phenomenon known as “N-Day” in future occurrences,

Terrified that no faction will ever be able to match the strength of COTA for as long as N-Day ensues across the multiverse,

Congratulating COTA for their domination of almost every sphere of nuclear warfare during the event,

Erasing any doubt about who the victor of the sixth N-Day is,

Hereby declares Crabs of the Apocalypse as the undisputed victor of the sixth N-Day.

The Security Council,

Aware of the existence of annual nuclear apocalypses, also known as "N-Day," where groups called "factions" compete with each other for nuclear dominance; these nuclear apocalypses being so prominent that this august body passed Security Council Resolution #369 to bring attention to this phenomenon,

Asserting that the sixth instance of N-Day has recently concluded across the multiverse,

Thankful that the home of the Security Council has been left relatively undamaged,

Observing, however, that one faction stood alone atop the smoldering wasteland of the multiverse, a feat never before seen,

Astounded to declare that the faction known as “Crabs of the Apocalypse,” henceforth known as “COTA,” has summarily obliterated any other faction that stood in their way in a devastating show of nuclear power,

Dismayed that COTA claimed an overwhelming victory against the only other faction who rose to challenge them in an attempt to save the multiverse from annihilation, “The Potato Alliance,”

Distraught that, while The Potato Alliance may have included some of the most expansive regions of nations in the multiverse, they stood no chance against the might of COTA,

Acknowledging that COTA and TPA had a mutual defense pact for the first twelve hours of the nuclear apocalypse, which turned into a non-aggression pact until hour fourteen,

Lauding the bravery of the spuds of The Potato Alliance for using all of their strength in one final, desperate attack against COTA by providing notice that they were breaking the non-aggression pact,

Heartbroken that even after the final stand of The Potato Alliance, COTA sustained little damage and responded with a devastating counterattack that filled TPA to the brim with radiation,

Noting that the smell of baked potatoes will linger across the multiverse for months to come,

Flabbergasted that once COTA was assured in their dominance, they were able to create many satellite factions that stood stalwart against the multiverse’s most desperate and ultimately futile attacks, displaying a victory for crabs everywhere across the top of the multiverse; the top ten factions in nuclear dominance, as ranked by the world census, were in fact puppet factions of COTA, showing the sheer, terrifying power of crabs,

Further nothing that, even though evolution dictates all beings must become crabs, nuclear annihilation was an extremely problematic way to cause this inevitability to come to pass,

Curious about the implications this overwhelming show of strength will have on the phenomenon known as “N-Day” in future occurrences,

Terrified that no faction will ever be able to match the strength of COTA for as long as N-Day ensues across the multiverse,

Timidly congratulating COTA for their domination of almost every sphere of nuclear warfare during the event,

Hereby declares Crabs of the Apocalypse as the most powerful nuclear faction to ever terrorize the multiverse.

If you could somehow condemn N-Day factions, then why not go after the crabs?

It was less meant to be a condemnation and more of a record of events and congratulating COTA for winning by so much, but I agree lol.

Although many regions are in the faction, the extra Cota factions were unprecedented.

It was a victory on their part. Even though we were outnumbered 2:1 they had to work for it.

I am amazed at how COTA really smashed their opposition. Even a commend/condemn could cut it both ways. :D

For sure. It'd be one thing if they just won, but they won by an insane amount. That's why I thought it was worthy of a declaration, even though I gave my all for the Potato Alliance.

Interesting idea. I don't think I'll comment much on this as I am a member of the faction in question, but one thing that likely breaks rules is the start of Clause 1: "Commending the nation of Morover..." does more than what a declaration can do. I think you can switch commending to something similar that wouldn't also refer to a SC Commendation, for example "praising" or "lauding".

I think this would be more fun as a condemnation, but the concept is there - I do worry that having too many resolutions on any one event could lead to fatigue by some people, but the utter domination demonstrated is difficult to overlook. I'll give a lot of feedback later, if you'd like - and if you want some help in shifting this to a condemnation, then let me know and I'll help you out on that front, too.

Ohhhh that's right that's right! I thought you couldn't commend a faction, but I just realized that a region of the same name made the faction!

It's pretty much already there as a commendation, but that's a good idea I think. I'll take any feedback you can give.

All right, I edited it so that it's in the form of a commendation and I added some more links to stuff.

I don't think it should be made a Commendation - although you could make it into one.

One benefit of the new Declarations category is the ability to comment on specific events - to reflect on, document, codify/canonize, and celebrate the specific accomplishment of CotA during N-Day6. Of course, Commendations can do that too, but Commendations have their own set of criteria as it relates to "worthiness", whether actions are in-character good or bad, whether it's a contribution by individuals or a collective/region, etc.

Arguably, CotA is not Commendable - after all, they are raining nuclear hell-fire on most of the world right now - that's a bad thing :P Not to mention, is a one-time N-Day faction deserving of the highest honor the WA has to bestow upon a region - certainly a lot of work went into this, but not the years-on-years of continuous region building that it typically takes for a regional Commendation to happen. There are only 16 regional Commendations, and with the exception of Haiku's poetic Commend all of them recognize regions with longevity and interregional contributions in a variety of areas. Winning one N-Day isn't enough for a Commend (even if we decided nuclear hellscapes were in-character good things), but it could well be something to note in a Declaration.

The faction links you provide will go dead this time next year.

Support in principle. May offer more feedback later.

Versutian Federation came within 1,300 votes of being Commended for their work during the inaugural Z-Day.

Why do we need to officially declare that they’re the winner? That’s pretty obvious when you look at the leaderboard. Just because the category says "declaration" doesn’t mean everything has to say "Declaration on..." "Hereby declares..." etc

Also, I think you need to emphasise how flabbergastingly ridiculous the margin of victory was for the crab, to give it the edge it needs over people wanting to commend ever N-Day winner for the years to come (of course you run the risk of this kind of victory going to be repeated and repeated again and again)

Yep I changed it so that the only links are those to Morover and SCR#369.

I agree. I don't want to set a precedent of people writing declarations for every winner of N-Day. I just want to show how huge the margin of victory was. It's just a little difficult to explain without breaking Rule 2.

In general, I think you should also change the tone of "CoTA good" to "CoTA evil and powerful" or a similar tone.

Concrete Slab wrote:Lauding the nation of Morover for bringing the attention of this august body to the phenomenon known as N-Day and the creation of groups known as “factions” in Security Council Resolution #369,

Is the fact Morover wrote it relevant? This seems better fit to a second commend Morover resolution than to a declaration about legged seashells :P Also, what tf is N-Day? I know, but you don't mention what N-Day is at all. Here is a possible change:
Aware of the existence of annual nuclear apocalypses, also known as "N-Day", where groups called "factions" compete with each other for nuclear dominance; these nuclear apocalypses are so prominent that this august body passed SC#359 to bring attention to N-Day,

Concrete Slab wrote:Astounded to declare that the faction known as “Crabs of the Apocalypse,”

Add "henceforth referred to as CoTA" or something similar
Concrete Slab wrote:based

Based.
Concrete Slab wrote:has summarily obliterated any other faction that stood in their way with the power of a thousand suns,

"With the power of a thousand suns" seems like very informal of wording to me for an SC declaration? You should change it in my opinion.

Concrete Slab wrote:Lauding the achievement of the faction, hereafter denoted as “COTA,”

Assuming you take my suggestion for "Astounded", might as well remove the "hereafter denoted as CoTA" part.

Concrete Slab wrote:for claiming an overwhelming victory against the only other faction who had the ability to challenge them, “The Potato Alliance,”

Can you explain what happened, but more in detail? For example, right now it says nothing about the fact that there was a NAP for the first half of N-Day until it got broken, and Potato Alliance was coming in second place until the NAP was broken and CoTA nuked PA to death.

Concrete Slab wrote:Noting that the smell of baked potatoes will linger across the multiverse for months to come,

Love it, you should absolutely keep this :D

Concrete Slab wrote:Flabbergasted that once COTA was assured in their dominance, they were able to create many satellite factions that stood stalwart against the multiverse’s most desperate and ultimately futile attacks, displaying a victory for crabs everywhere across the top of the multiverse,

No mention of the fact that CoTA's puppet factions managed to fill the entire leaderboard? D:

Concrete Slab wrote:Terrified that no faction will ever be able to match the strength of COTA for as long as N-Day ensues across the multiverse,

This seems like a very sudden change in tone... I think it's best to either change it to something positive about CoTA or change the mood of the rest of the draft (I'd prefer the latter, as I said earlier in this post).

Concrete Slab wrote:Hereby declares Crabs of the Apocalypse as the undisputed victor of the sixth N-Day.

Boring lmao, we already know who the victor is. Do something more interesting, like:
Hereby declares Crabs of the Apocalypse as one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, nuclear faction seen by this body so far.

In which case Crabs of the Apocalypse is a bad choice. There's really not that much remarkable about the faction. It's simply a joint faction of two of the largest factions from last year, a continuation of a trend towards megafactions throughout NDay; that had the fortune that two of their rivals chose not to participate this year, and the last had a nonaggression pact with them. Most Nday winners have been more remarkable (i'd say all, but i was not here last year), and it is unlikely that any faction will win Nday without at least matching this.

I'm tepid on the whole concept of recognition for Nday victories on their own, but If I were to pick a faction that deserved it I'd go with Canopy, their prioritization of 0 radiation at all cost is remarkable.

Personally reading the final draft (and the draft prior) it seems... Confusing. The tone switches back and forth from "condemnation" to "commendation" given the mixed language which does seem rather improper even for a declaration. Alas, it could easily be spun up into a condemnation, but there's no real point in doing so since it was a one-time event that isn't exactly canon. Regardless, I do not support this, as it does seem like a mild waste of a declaration, however confusing the tone may be.
