[PASSED] Commend Pope Hope

Postby Emodea » Sun Aug 01, 2021 9:27 am

Heyo everyone, it's me trying the SC thing again! Me and my co-author Grea Kriopia started working on this around a month ago and we feel that our draft have reached a point where we can't improve upon it without further feedback and advice. So yeah, any and every feedback is appreciated!

Current Draft:
The Security Council,

Identifying Pope Hope as an ardent defender of regional autonomy and a significant contributor to the betterment of many international communities,

Thinking of Pope Hope’s humble beginnings as a native of Nasicournia, a historical region home to a unique and vibrant culture which participated in many areas of the international community, where their contributions include:
  • Assisting the early development of the region through the creation of the regional forums, effectively organizing regional affairs and providing essential hubs for regional activity,
  • Creating and leading the NasiCorps military and the Nasicournia Intelligence Agency, both reaching extraordinary levels of success for their time with over 250 military deployments and 40 active intelligence agents at its peak,
  • Overseeing the region's growth and international mission as Delegate at multiple points in time, establishing early alliances with regions such as Texas, Middle Earth, The North Pacific (TNP), and Equilism,

Applauding Pope Hope’s work to protect Nasicournia from external threats following the departure of its founder Nasicournius, successfully repelling several invasions by some of the most notorious invader groups of the time. Pope Hope's diligence moved Nasicournians to the point of elevating the nation to serve as the region’s new founder,

Observing Nasicournia’s admission into the Alliance Defense Network (ADN), an interregional organization originally created to protect member regions from invasions, and the shift of Pope Hope’s focus to the cause of protecting regions from invading forces,

Admiring Pope Hope’s brief yet impactful stint as the Director of Intelligence of the ADN, laying the groundwork for its famed intelligence network, training new intelligence agents and leading numerous operations, most notably to combat Francos Spain’s infamous, brutal regime in The Pacific. Francos Spain would go on to ban hundreds of nations from the region and attempt to subvert several prominent regions of the time, including TNP,

Noting Pope Hope’s remarkable work as Director (head) of the ADN, playing a significant role in its meteoric rise as the largest defender coalition of its time:
  • Streamlining the internal structure of the ADN through rewriting its constitution which greatly increased its effectiveness as a whole, and establishing a judiciary branch which handled legal disputes within member regions,
  • Pioneering new counterintelligence methods to reveal threats to the ADN and rebuilding the organizational forums, ensuring operational security and providing reliable hubs for activity,
  • Recruiting new regions and rapidly expanding its membership tally, peaking at over 60 regions and featuring TNP, The West Pacific, The Rejected Realms, Equilism and other prominent regions in its ranks,
  • Conducting frequent outreach missions to improve the middling repute the ADN and its members had due to its past actions, resulting in greater trust and cooperation between the natives and the organization in the future,
  • Organizing some of the largest defenses in history, including defenses of Federal Commonwealth Society, Palestine, The West Pacific and Lazarus, featuring well over 100 defenders in each of those operations,

Praising Pope Hope’s monumental efforts to unite the defender community in unparalleled levels of cooperation at the time, harmoniously working with other contemporary organizations in innumerable successful missions including the famed Puppetmaster liberation of TNP from the followers of Francos Spain in 2004 and setting a strong precedent for future defenders to follow,

Lauding Pope Hope’s actions to oppose Pixiedance’s coup of TNP which established the tyrannical North Pacific Directorate (NPD), infiltrating the region as Stars of Sky to help resistance efforts against the NPD. Pope Hope would also plan and lead one of the largest liberations ever – with over 100 liberators joining in – to restore TNP back to native control,

Extolling Stars of Sky’s transient tenure as Delegate of TNP following the fall of NPD, leading the rebuild of the region by supervising vital constitutional reforms and opening a new, neutral regional forums for all regardless of their allegiances, paving the way for the liberal, democratic haven it is now known as,

Appreciating Stars of Sky for founding Stars, a region which initially served as a refuge for the displaced residents of TNP but grew into a lively community of its own, comprising over 200 nations at its peak,

Believing that Pope Hope’s immense contributions to this vast multiverse warrants official recognition from this council,

Hereby commends Pope Hope.

Co-authored by Grea Kriopia.

This is definitely a commendable nominee given their amount of accomplishments and long-standing history. I don't see many issues and judging from a first look, support.
I don't stand with Ukraine. I don't stand with Russia. I don't stand with the US, NATO, or EU. I stand with the innocent civilians being caught in the crossfire while the politicians, the media, and weapons manufacturers continue to stoke division and conflict in their geopolitical chess games and treat the people of Ukraine as mere pawns. Zelensky is a corrupt, opportunist oligarchic politician who is not fit to lead Ukraine through anything and wants to inflate his own ego and offshore accounts.

I believe Pope Hope is a worthy nominee and my initial read through is favourable. I think there may be a little bit of wordsmithing required, but overall this reads very well.

Nice job and glad to have helped in a very minor way.

The opening words of the first two clauses - “Distinguishing” and “Thinking”. These just don’t seem right to me. Can’t put my finger on it exactly, sorry, but I think you should look for alternatives.

I’m sure I will have other comments later, but these are the two that hit me straight up when I wrote the wordsmithing comment.

We’re tossing around replacing “Distinguishing” with “Identifying”

“Thinking” gets a bit more complicated, because the first words/letters of the Nasicournia clause spell an Easter egg we wanted to include as a nod to the region’s culture: Taco.

When Moon and I spoke with Nasicournius (the original founder) and others about Nasicournia, there were a lot of fond memories about tacos and “Taco Tuesdays” started by PH that required all nations to celebrate the day every week under regional law. It’s incredibly random, but the affection for that tradition was obvious even now. So when Moon and I started drafting, we wanted to demonstrate why PH’s work in Nasi was so incredible but also capture the personality of a region that was and is clearly very loved by its residents. The acronym for “taco” is our best attempt

I was hoping someone would comment on it so I could explain why it’s there :p We’d love to keep it in the draft but another “t” word could be in order

Regardless, this looks very well written, and the nominee is certainly commendable so strongly support.

Anyway:

Does this mean they refounded it? I'm not an expert on this, but if this means they refounded it, you should just say that :P

Emodea wrote:Observing Nasicournia’s admission into the Alliance Defense Network (ADN), an interregional organization originally created to protect member regions from invasions, and the shift of Pope Hope’s focus to the cause of protecting regions from invading forces,

Not commendable on its own imo, unless Pope Hope directly helped in Nasicournia's entry.

Yes! Although I'm not sure about what their NS nation is, I can confirm that they still hang around here with some of the Antiquity folks.

The Python wrote:Does this mean they refounded it?

It doesn't. Sometime back in 2003-2004, the mods decided to appoint community-chosen nations as founders of founderless regions. It's how Grub became the founder of XKI; they didn't found/refound the region, but they were chosen by its community to serve as its new founder and appointed by the mods on request. The same happened with Nasicournia; Pope Hope was chosen by the community to serve as the region's new founder and the mods appointed her to the position.

The Python wrote:Not commendable on its own imo, unless Pope Hope directly helped in Nasicournia's entry.

Wasn't meant to be a commendable thing. That clause is there for purely narrative-setting purposes, since it seemed a bit jarring to us just jump into the ADN bit of Pope Hope's career without any interlude of some kind. Hence the existence of the clause, to provide context behind why Pope Hope started defending 'seriously' and why they started working at the ADN. In Pope Hope's own words;
I began seeing the devastating effects that invaders were causing in regions all over NS, and became involved in freelance intelligence gathering. Nasicournia's original founding father left NS, leaving the region vulnerable. For several months, we had no Founder. During this period of time, we were recruiting and growing like crazy.

Nasicournia formed a strong alliance with A New Begining and Cannabis Island. C.I. was thinking about joining the ADN at that point in time, and then Nasi was recruited by the Founders themselves. I checked it out and fell in love with the defender lifestyle.

I started throwing my "all" completely into the ADN after the combined effort of ADN and O.S.A. forces to defend Nasicournia and myself in an extremely risky mission. They earned my loyalty by showing me theirs, even when our organization wasn't yet very large.

The Python wrote:More of a me question out of curiosity than anything, but what happened here?

I'm not exactly sure myself, tbh. All I've managed to find out is that TWP was invaded at least three times from 2003-2005 and the ADN managed to gather an impressive force to dispel those invasions successfully. I'm sure Dilber, Westwind or Eli (Wickedly evil people) would have more information about it, but Dilber's been busy with RL so I didn't want to bother him much, and Westwind and Eli seems to be inactive nowadays.

It also ends up relating to how BBD came to help me during drafting; due to scarcity of information out there, I reached out to them to confirm about the validity of this, as well as a few questions about certain ADN members in general. Their help here is much appreciated :)

Ah, okay :P I'm pretty sure the ADN did back coups in TWP, so at least it isn't lowkey mentioning a coup as commendable xD
See more information here.

And I’m fairly certain you’re wrong - TWP was a long time member of the ADN. Take it from someone who was around then.
