[DRAFT] Commend Tzo

Postby Eastern New England » Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:57 am

First-time author here. I'm not looking for corrections on the specific stats, but rather how to make this commendation well-written and less repetitive. I will review the stats shortly before submission and correct them at that time.

I have acquired the consent of the nominee.

The Security Council,

Recognizing the sheer amount of effort and time Tzo has spent ensuring the well-being and safety of their immense populace, and of other foreign communities through international aid, allowing peace and harmony to ensue,

Emphasizing that achieving such a level of utopia is not the result of a one-time choice of policies, but rather the outcome of years of carefully selecting which policy option to pursue on hundreds of national issues,

Delighted with the Tzoan national policies, including the essential right to public protest, the right to marriage equality, allowing citizens of the same sex to marry, an important step in combating hatred and intolerance in the form of homophobia, the banning of zoos, known to keep animals in confinement, often bordering on animal abuse, and the right to a maternity leave, a crucial right for the women of the nation, all of which classify the nations' civil rights as superb,

Applauding the immense advancement in technology, such as the bestowal of citizenship for artificial beings, illustrating just how advanced artificial beings are, seen on the same level as sapient beings, an AI-backed economy, used to eliminate any man-made mistakes, and a national space program, these accomplishments detailing how advanced the national technology is,

Admiring the utter kindness of the nation’s inhabitants, being the most inclusive in the world presently, as well as being ranked 2nd in niceness and compassion, having the 3rd most cheerful citizens, and giving a lot of money to less fortunate nations through their extensive foreign aid, 42nd globally, certainly classifying the nation as a utopia,

Impressed by the extensive public education, 32nd best in the world, having created an inclusive educational community, of different cultures and ideals, and discussing topics ranging from sexuality, political science, and health, which in turn has also put them at the top of the world in terms of intelligence as of writing,

Starstruck by the impressive amount of culture in Tzo, said to be the most cultured in the world currently, offering a wide array of coffee shops and concert halls, as well as the exquisite quality of food, ensuring that only the classiest and best nourishment be served on a night out,

Noting the beautiful environment of the nation, ranked 2nd in the world, likely caused by their ban on cars and airplanes, known emitters of greenhouse gasses, their participation in the international climate treaty, their eco-friendly government, placed 49th internationally, additionally leading to the nation being the second-most popular tourist destination, and their beautiful weather, only beaten by 10 other nations,

Amazed by the large social system, leading to an advanced public transport, placed 25th in the world, the 53th biggest welfare program, specifically to help the poorer citizens of the nation, and the 151st largest public healthcare sector, where universal healthcare for everyone is provided, all of which is financed through the high tax rate, estimated to be the 2nd highest in the world,

Proud of the many, hard-working inhabitants of the nation, with Tzo having the 3rd highest employment rate of any place, leading to a high economic output, a high poor income, and a high average income,

Astonished with the stellar health condition of Tzo, being the 7th healthiest nation, made possible by the universal healthcare system, and the country with the 10th highest lifespan, with the average person living over a century,

Elated that the utopian setting of the nation leads to a creative youth, said to be the 12th most rebellious, in a very compliant nation filled with law-abiding citizens, having the 10th lowest crime rates internationally,

Dazzled by the very compliant population, having the 9th lowest crime rates internationally, but also home to the 13th most rebellious youth, implying that abiding the law and expressing yourself rebelliously need not be contradictory,

Pointing out additional and remarkable traits of Tzo and its locals, specifically:
• a large, but incorruptible government, indicated by being seen as the 2nd largest in terms of size and 3rd least corrupt one, refusing almost every bribe,
• a safe and peaceful environment, being the 2nd and 3rd best-ranked nation at safety and pacifism, probably caused by their gun control policy,

Concluding that Tzo is a great example of a intelligent, cultured and inclusive nation, the government having spent years carefully governing every decision and policy to please their population to the best of their ability, and is a great example of what the government of other member states should strive to reach,

Hereby commends Tzo.

Why throw it out so easily?

Tzo is right behind Kindjal in many stats, and occasionally ahead. That should at least merit consideration, right? I concede we need to be cautious when commending for answering issues (say, only one or two people)— and I don't think that Tzo is on the level of Kindjal (undeniably the most accomplished issues answerer of all time excepting issues analysts like NSH)— but that shouldn't discredit Tzo so quickly. Maybe I'm missing something?

I see this as fluff. The same is true in Fauxia, and you won't commend Fauxia for that anytime soon.

Starstruck by the impressive amount of culture in Tzo, said to be the most cultured currently, offering a wide array of coffee shops and concert halls,

Most cultured in the world.

Baffled by the very compliant population, having the 10th lowest crime rates internationally, but also home to the 12th most rebellious youth, implying that abiding the law and expressing yourself rebelliously need not be contradictory,

Since the rest is all congratulatory, I find the choice of participle here questionable. This line should be more congratulatory, and simply say that the utopian setting leads to youth that are creative but a peaceful nation.

Concluding that Tzo is a great example of a intelligent, cultured and inclusive nation, the government having spent years carefully governing every decision and policy to please their population to the best of their ability, and is a great example of what the government of other member states should strive to reach,

We got that bit, I think this is basically fluff.

Pretty well written, but I am going to have to oppose, ENE. Tzo is not Kindjal, or even Northern Borland. Issues don't have a ton to do with the world, so only the very best get that. If NB isn't going to be able to keep their commendation, Tzo doesn't really deserve one.

I don't believe commendations should be handed out for issues that answer issues "exceptionally well." Even if they spent time doing just that, the resolution has to make a very good case for it. Kindjal may be the exception, but basically that would be it.

Stats based C&Cs are the hardest to write - for a start the nominee has to be utterly outstanding in all areas. Personally I don’t see the nominee making the grade.

Fair enough then.

Though, just so I'm clear on your stance, you're referring to traditional issue answering like you and Tzo do, right? Does that encompass calculated issue answering with the aims of creating a certain type of nation like what Luna Amore did and PS2 currently does (e.g. creating a nation that goes through every government type)? If I were to magically derive the equations used to calculate stats, and use that to boost my nation's stats at record-breaking rates, would that be commendable? My point is that there's far more to issue stats than what Tzo and Kindjal do, and I think those deserve more recognition than they get in the SC. Perhaps the author may want to look into that.

If I answered issues to boost the "desirable" stats, then I could be deserving of a commendation as long as I somehow beat Kindjal in every single category. However, stat commends are the hardest to do and can be the most subjective as to which categories make the nominee stand out. And yes, I only refer to traditional issue answering.

I absolutely don't agree on this point. I've always felt that the "difficulty" of a stat could be described as a function of the number of nations actively trying to raise it, or perhaps the number of issue options which significantly raise that stat, the number of issue options which lower it, and the likelihood of a player selecting each option. A good heuristic for measuring the the relative difficulty of a stat would perhaps be to create a medium sample of nations, have them aim to increase that stat for a few months, and see how high of a ranking they get compared to another stat. No one would do try to measure it, but the point is that it can be objectively measured. I don't think anyone would disagree with me if I said that nudity is an easier, and therefore less impressive, stat than welfare. Fluctuation of place within high-ranking nations is perhaps another way of gaining insight into a stat's difficulty.

Not that that applies to Kindjal or Tzo, as their stats come from years of effort and we have no way of telling the difficulty of raising welfare in 2003 (if it existed then).

To me, the subjectivity of stat commendations raises a question on whether or not such a commendation is feasible. I normally don't think nations should get commended solely on stats.

I've finally got a bit more free time and am planning to pursue this further.

I see this as fluff. The same is true in Fauxia, and you won't commend Fauxia for that anytime soon.

I'm not commending Tzo solely based on its national policies, but it does make the nominee more commendable than, say, having strict prudism policies.

I was unsure whether baffled was correct phrasing and I agree that another participle would be more fitting. I'll get to fixing that, thank you.

I'm torn here as I've had people tell me specifically this clause is a very good "conclusion" or ending to the commend. I'd love to hear other opinions.

I am discouraged to hear that, but nonetheless I disagree. Tzo has several very impressive stats and has shown serious dedication in the field of issue answering over the past one and a half decades.

After a while, I've gotten this draft updated. I've fixed the participle of the former baffled clause, have reviewed the stats and added a brand new number 1 stat - best food quality. I'd appreciate some more feedback.

The "Foreign Aid" part also best goes in another clause (e.g. "Pointing") in my opinion.

"Said to be" weakens your point as it implies that they might not be the most cultured :P

As said before in regards to the earlier draft and as Sparta points out now , the nominee still isn't quite there.

That being said I think with your writing skills and your to ability take constructive feedback that if you found the right nominee you'd stand a good chance of a passage. So I'm not sure if putting continued energy in to this one is that best course of actions, I think Tzo just needs more time( or some folks on up the list in some areas to CTE).

XKI has a lot of commendable people so you're in a good region for it, and I would certainly ask around about some other possible nominees if you are compelled to do so.

Best Wishes either way
