The Security Council

Repeal: "Commend Kuriko"

Repeal

Target: SCR#300: Commend Kuriko

A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Security Council Resolution #300 “Commend Kuriko” shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

The World Assembly Security Council,

Noting the fact that Kuriko, a well-respected nation who has helped better the world through both international diplomacy and other means, was formally recognized with the passage of SCR#300 "Commend Kuriko",

Maintaining the fact that Kuriko is highly commendable for their actions both in the Security Council itself and abroad in the international community,

Believing, however, that SCR#300 does a poor job of representing Kuriko's accomplishments, and instead relies on the then-recent election of the nation as the World Assembly Secretary-General to boost the resolution into passage, as opposed to passing based on its own merits,

Concerned that the acknowledgement of Kuriko's contributions to the Security Council rely more closely on the quantity of their proposals, while failing to recognize the quality that comes alongside it,

Saddened by the fact that the commendation of Kuriko reads akin to a basic list of accomplishments, without truly explaining the significance of those achievements or accentuating their magnitude,

Further disappointed by the inaccuracies present in this list, including:
  1. Calling the Ten Thousand Islands Treaty Organization merely the "Thousand Islands Treaty Organization," an error which underestimates the magnitude of the organization tenfold,
  2. The assertion that Kuriko mobilized many defending forces in regards to the attempted 2019 coup of The East Pacific, when in fact they only mobilized TITO,
  3. Claiming that the Rejected Realms Treaty of Friendship was negotiated by Kuriko, when in fact the majority of negotiations were made by Alkasia, whereas Kuriko merely presented it to the Council of Nine after the negotiations were complete,

And certain that the candidate will undoubtedly achieve many more feats in their time, and that any commendation of Kuriko should include as many accomplishments as it possibly can, and any one written prematurely will do a grave disservice to both the candidate and the Security Council as a whole,

Hereby repeals SCR#300.

For the record, Kuriko is supportive of this. No replacement is being prepared at the current moment - I think she'd prefer to do a few more things before another attempt is tried. I don't know for certain, and I don't pretend to speak for her either way, so if someone drafts something up, I won't stop them personally - I just don't want to explicitly say that one is being worked on within the draft.

Regardless, comments are welcome as always.

One quick thing - "She's going to do more commendable things" isn't a good argument.

That's less of an argument and more of a prediction on the future of commendations for Kuriko.

An clause added "Believing in a better and adequate replacement is needed". Otherwise good luck

If Kuriko had done so many good things over an long period of time, she may get 2 SC commendations

Even if Kuriko CTEs, they will still be remembered for their accomplishments on NS.

I've thought that SC#300 was rather low quality for modern resolutions, especially in terms of what it chose to highlight as achievements and what it passed over as a footnote. I didn't expect this would get revised, but I'm happy to see it so.

Any particular reason this is getting repealed now and not when there will be a replacement for it?

I'm a little confused. If there was concern for the initial proposal why did Kuriko not express it then? Also, why the repeal now? Edit: I know that more wants to be done before another attempt which is why the repeal now, but again I'm just confused why this change after only a few months.

I'll wade in here, since pretty much nobody knows my mind like I do. When it was first written I was like, sure, yeah it's okay and it seems like a pretty good attempt. I didn't really give it any though after it passed for the longest time because I was too busy with RL and regional administration duties.

Within the last week I actually took a look at it again, and noticed the innacuracies and mistakes. I also noticed it wasn't up to snuff with more recent proposals, and I wish it had been written better. We chatted about it in the XKI server, which is where the idea of repealing it came up and I pointed all this stuff out there as well as in private conversations with Morover.

I guess that is fair. As far as I can see there are only a few inaccuracies that seem rather minimal other than the treat negotiation. The rest of the argument feels like the resolution just doesn't do your accomplishments justice. Has there been a case before where someone has wanted their SC resolution repealed because it was not sufficient for them/they will do more later? I know that Sky Dip had a recent attempt that is somewhat similar but I haven't really seen this before.

That doesn't answer my question?

I'm asking why the repeal should be now, not in the future when she has done more things and the commendation can be improved.

Because I asked Morover to do it.

Full support. I have always believed that SC#300 was a poor resolution which never truly reflected Kuriko's accomplishments and ability.

Slightly disappointed that a move to repeal this Commendation has come so soon after its passing. However, as with SkyDip I see no reason to stand in the way of Kuriko’s wishes.

To the text itself - nicely written and does a good job of highlighting the perceived inadequacies of SC #300.

I recommend just two tweaks, take it or leave it:

Noting the fact that, with the passage of SCR#300 "Commend Kuriko", a well-respected nation who has helped better the world at large both through both international diplomacy and other means was formally recognized,

'At large' is redundant with 'the world'. What do you mean by 'other means'? If you're listing two things, 'both' should go after 'through'.

I also think the sentence structure of the first clause is a bit weird, so here's a more radical change (because you mention the passage and then say Kuriko was formally recognised - again, it's a bit redundant) if you're keen:

It would be a little dissappointing watching Kuriko 's commendation get repealed but if Kuriko wants it repealed I guess I need to support it. *sighs* :(
