[PASSED] Commend Helaw

Postby Nueva Rico » Sat Jun 09, 2018 2:37 pm

This esteemed Security Council,

Recognizing the extensive administrative, diplomatic, and organizational work Helaw has performed in the six regions under the banner of the Augustin Alliance, helping to create and maintain a secure union for over 650 unique nations; inciting activity, helping to solve problems and defuse conflicts thoughtfully as they arise, and aiding the alliance to the victories of the two worldwide nuclear wars, popularized as "N-Day",

Acknowledging Helaw’s tenure as delegate in the Ridgefield, the first of the recently rebuilt region, and in Conch Kingdom, where they composed an astonishing 57 voting recommendations, emphasizing the progressive and transparent attitude Helaw has shown in regards to the World Assembly, setting a steady foundation that allowed the two regions to grow, even in the wake of a temporary dissolution of the Augustin Alliance,

Lauding the character of their influence on the development of both Ridgefield, where they currently serve as Judge, to become the most active World Assembly-only region in the world - home to 64 active nations, and Tempest, a rapidly growing, strictly democratic region with a sophisticated political system, by the puppet founding nation Ventus Imperatoris,

Extolling Helaw’s duty to the creation, organization, and administration of both the Augustin Alliance community forum, one of the largest and most active in the world, and an issue discussion forum which extended constructive advice and criticism, to countless novice and experienced nations alike, in bringing relevant global issues to light in the most efficient and eloquent manner,

Furthermore awed by the magnanimity of Helaw’s scope of work in the international community,
  • Bringing attention to the national issue of potential peril posed by petitions in ‘Playful Petitions Pester Politicians.’
  • GA#402 “Repeal: ‘World Assembly Central Medicinal Database Compact’”, which sought to end ineffective regulatory legislation.
  • SC#235 “Commend Candlewhisper Archives”, which duly recognized the tremendous services of a fellow nation prominent in the international community.
Asserting that the nation of Helaw has diligently served as a prime example for excellence, efficiency, and tenacity to each and every state of the international community;

Hereby commends Helaw.

Awesome. It has been a pleasure working with you to create this new draft for Helaw’s commendation. He has been at the forefront of the AA and NS for nearly two years and he has accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. No doubt, one of the best people I have worked alongside in Ridgefield. Hopefully, this commendation eventually passes with flying colors because Helaw’s work ethic as an offsite administrator, an Issue Author and Editor, and a former delegate is up there with the best of them and that needs to be recognized site-wide. Put simply, he is a well-rounded player. I am glad to have my name attached to this because I want to make it perfectly clear that Helaw is most deserving of this honor.

Its nice to see new names being presented to this Assembly and even nicer to see new authors! I guess I will take on the unfortunate role of properly welcoming you back* to the SC with critique. I have the feeling you're not one who is easily discouraged, so I look forward to how fantastic this proposal will be by the time you submit it!

The AA is a rather impressive feat, and the world recognized that in August's commendation. Little would we know that it would all crumble with August's departure. It could be argued that the entirety of the AA's greatness rests on August's back and that argument is supported by the Alliance's return on the heels of August's return. What did Helaw do to maintain and secure the Alliance in its time and why couldn't that effort continue in the absence of the Alliance's founder? Please elaborate for us, because the critic in me could make an argument that riding August's coattails isn't all that impressive. I Know that Helaw has had to have done some great work if the membership of the Alliance idolizes them so, tell me why you love them.

Acknowledging Helaw’s tenure as delegate in the Ridgefield, the first of the recently rebuilt region, and in Conch Kingdom, where they composed an astonishing 57 voting recommendations, emphasizing the progressive and transparent attitude Helaw has shown in regards to the World Assembly,

How did these regions fair between the closing and reopening of the AA? What defines "most active World Assembly-only region"? Do they have the largest population? Do they have the highest WA voting percentage? Or is it that they have the most RMB posts? Tell us why you confidently make that claim.

Extolling Helaw’s duty to the creation and administration of both the Augustin Alliance community forum, one of the largest and most active in the world - with over three hundred users and tens of thousands of posts monthly,

Was this forum active in the months in which August was gone? Does August carry the burden of the weight of creating content on this forum? What does being admin of this community forum entail on a day-to-day basis?

and the Got Issues forum which extended constructive advice and criticism, to countless novice and experienced nations alike, in bringing relevant global issues to light.

Nice.

Furthermore awed by the magnanimity of Helaw’s scope of work in the international community,

  • SC#235 “Commend Candle Whisper Archive”, which duly recognized the tremendous services of a fellow nation prominent in the international community.

Nice.

Asserting that the nation of Helaw has diligently served as a prime example for excellence, efficiency, and tenacity to each and every state of the international community;

You have arguments that support this nation, but I'd like for them to become good arguments. The bulk of this Commendation weighs heavily on their participation in the AA and its member regions. Tell us what they have done for these regions and Alliance that make them such a success.

Welcome to the SC

Recall that “forum” is only legal because it has a real world interpretation. Refrences To posts or posting has long been held an R4d violation. Rather than say “Got Issues forum” you’d do better to describe the effects of Helaw’s posts.

What did Helaw do to maintain and secure the Alliance in its time and why couldn't that effort continue in the absence of the Alliance's founder? Please elaborate for us, because the critic in me could make an argument that riding August's coattails isn't all that impressive ... Was this forum active in the months in which August was gone? Does August carry the burden of the weight of creating content on this forum? What does being admin of this community forum entail on a day-to-day basis? ... Tell us what they have done for these regions and Alliance that make them such a success.

Surely. I didn't want to over-embellish to the point that it come off almost trying to discredit August's influence on the success of the AA. After all, the Augustin Alliance is a conglomerate of all the regions he has personally founded and developed from the ground up, without him as the link, we knew the regions would undoubtedly carry on, but we could not expect the alliance to continue in the same fashion during his absence. But by no means does this mean that he was the sole proprietor of the whole enterprise, that just has to be understood in the context of what the Alliance is in the first place. The dissolution of the AA was deliberate to allow for the regions to grow more independent and August's decision to do so was a mutual agreement with Helaw, not a personal decision. Regardless, I have developed that point further and more closely specified Helaw's role and responsibilities.

How did these regions fair between the closing and reopening of the AA? What defines "most active World Assembly-only region"? Tell us why you confidently make that claim.

Even after the AA dissolved, both regions continued to grow, especially in regards to population, the court system and Statutory Code of Ridgefield, and the Tourism Agency and amendment system of Conch Kingdom; I've added this section: "... setting a steady foundation that allowed the two regions to grow, even in the wake of a temporary dissolution of the Augustin Alliance," Moreover, activity can't really be defined in any one standard, because many people have differing opinions on what classifies an 'active' region. Thus, 'active' here is general, as Ridgefield constitutes the most nations, of any WA-restricted region, that actively engage with each other.

Ransium wrote:Recall that “forum” is only legal because it has a real world interpretation. Refrences To posts or posting has long been held an R4d violation. Rather than say “Got Issues forum” you’d do better to describe the effects of Helaw’s posts.

Noted. I've removed the bit about post frequency and changed the focus from the line about Got Issues to his effect on the people that forum has helped.

Thank you for the answers and I believe your edits to the proposal make it stronger.

Apologies for my ignorance concerning the AA, but are there any positions or title that Helaw holds within the Alliance other than Region Founder and Forum Admin? Does he play a role in the military? Is there some sort of bureaucratic structure in place that he is a part of? I just want a full picture of this nation. The best service you can do for Helaw is make it so that when someone like me asks "who is/was Helaw", we only need to click on the badge on their page and be able to grasp their importance.

Perhaps split the first section in two and give us more insight into the role Helaw played in ensuring the AA's victory in the Nuclear Wars. I also believe that the AA brought it other allies to help them win these events, did Helaw facilitate these temporary alliances?

Hey, you should combine candle and whisper as the nation's name is Candlewhisper Archives. I think it would also be appropriate to add a bit more on Tempest and highlight the roles Helaw has played in Ridgefield, besides as Delegate.

I really do think this draft is excellent though, and that Helaw deserves a commendation. :)

Definitely a nation worthy of this. Just a nit-pick though, maybe instead of puppet you could say "vassal state"? Sounds more formal to me!

Thanks for the tip, and I'll work on elaborating those bits.

Benevolent Thomas wrote:Perhaps split the first section in two and give us more insight into the role Helaw played in ensuring the AA's victory in the Nuclear Wars.

I've been toying around with the sentence structure and trying to split it into two points, but haven't really stumbled upon anything that strikes me as better. I think perhaps splitting the point deludes the substance more than it strengthens the argument. I'll continue to toy with it as I work more on Marilyn's suggestion, but as far as it goes now, I'm going to leave it as it is.

Kurczak Mielony wrote:Definitely a nation worthy of this. Just a nit-pick though, maybe instead of puppet you could say "vassal state"? Sounds more formal to me!

Puppet is the actual term, in real life, for a nation under the control of smaller nation. Using "vassal state," I feel is less precise and I want to emphasize that it's Helaw's nation.

Marilyn Manson Freaks wrote:I really do think this draft is excellent though, and that Helaw deserves a commendation. :)

Dirito and I really appreciate the great feedback and support! Much love to everyone else that has supported thus far. If anyone feels inclined, share this among anyone who is interested in SC, so as to get some more feedback before this goes to vote.
