[Draft] Commend Ariusgrad

Postby Lanaograd » Sun Feb 04, 2018 7:12 pm

This SC proposal narrowly missed the required quota of WA delegates. Would it be possible to help draft and promote this to appreciate an honorable nation?

The noble World Assembly, in particular the Security Council,

Noting that Ariusgrad, first elected on 31 January 2012, has been the longest serving delegate of the Philippines to the World Assembly,

Recognizing the six years of unparalleled service of Ariusgrad to the said region as its president, encouraging active participation of its residents in regional and global affairs,

Impressed by the performance of Ariusgrad as it took the task of leading a relatively small and unknown region riddled with fleeting administrations, feuding member nations, and strong invasions,

Further noting that Ariusgrad introduced to the Philippines at least four additional government capacities within a constitutional democratic setup, namely the Vice Delegate (Vice President), the Communications Officer (Minister of Foreign Affairs), the Homeland Officer (Minister of Domestic Affairs), and the Security Officer (Minister of Defense) as a commitment towards efficient and effective service within and outside the region,

Awed by the its dedication to stay with the region as exemplified by being the oldest resident of the Philippines to date,

Admiring the fact that it quickly resolved at least 14 invasion attempts during its administration of the Philippines, with some of them featuring more than 40 invader nations at one time,

Considering that while its message of being open to all nations of the world is antithetical to traditional theories on anti-invasion strategy, it displays the feasibility of maintaining openness while building up a suitable defense,

Applauding the diplomacy of Ariusgrad as the region maintained warm relations with more than 100 regions at one time, cooperating and working with a number of them in multiple missions in the past,

Praising the leadership of Ariusgrad which brought the Philippines to new heights, administering the most number of member nations in the region's history as it reached apogee in 2017,

Respecting its prolific work to maintain a good international standing for the Philippines as Ariusgrad continued to be active in the voting and the approval of several resolutions,

Grateful for its continuing programs to bolster defense and reinforce security from the regional to the global scale in promotion of ready power for peace,

Moved by its commitment to achieve economic and social development within a shared world,

Believing that the existence of a nation passionate about individual participation, international relations, inclusiveness, openness, and democratization in this decade makes the world a better place for all,

Hereby commends Ariusgrad.

Honestly, it’s not really a relevant region, so one nation that did a lot for it doesn’t warrant a commendation

As a defender, I must say I am a fan of Ariusgrad. They pay attention to threats to their region and are patient and level-headed when Philippines is successfully invaded. Their reliability to quickly act upon successful liberations by defender forces is always appreciated and celebrated. While this facet of Ariusgrad puts them a cut above the rest in my book, the overall body of work isn't sufficient to warrant a commendation.

Maybe this is my bias as a long time delegate showing, but I disagree with you guys. Can you imagine a role harder than a long time delegate of a medium-sized region? You're not small enough to fly under the radar, not large enough that your endos give you a safe buffer from raids. And in if your region happens to be named after an actual geographic place, even more of a challenge. You have to hold your community together in the face of constant interruption. To be able to stay sane, keep going, and keep your community together for this amount of time is something truly exceptional, IMO.

I get the lack of international impact argument that you guys are taking, and I'm sure if it goes to vote it'll be the argument of every no voter, but I also think we need to consider is this person an exceptional community builder and player. If so why not commend them? We have a well-written, legal, organic commend from someone new to the SC and you guys just want to toss it out?

So we should pass it because it is a high quality attempt from a newbie? I'm not saying that this nation shouldn't author anymore commendations, they seem to be quite adept at it, but the bar for what constitutes a commended player is set very high and some of us would like to keep it there.

I am thankful for recognizing that the proposal is well written. I am quite aware that many WA proposals in the past suffer from grammar and sentence construction issues.

I understand that our region the Philippines is not quite significant yet when taking into consideration the international standards you are pointing out. This is perhaps one reason why many low profile regions just like ours tend not to propose resolutions to the World Assembly. However, Ariusgrad is one bright spot which I believe is an adequate representative from these low key regions to receive commendation. Truly, even as a medium sized region, we have been a savory target for invasions and raiders, but unlike his immediate predecessors, which lasted up to three months at best, Ariusgrad has served our small region to attain its current status to this day.

I also believe in the message of Ariusgrad for development in a shared world in the last Secretary General election. He proved a formidable candidate for making it up to Round 2 or 3 of the election despite, as you say, even with low international recognition on his part for being a normal delegate in terms of endorsements. At any rate, I forwarded this proposal to this forum in order to improve it and ultimately appreciate a hardworking and persevering nation.

The first line in italics in unneeded and just adds fluff. It should be changed to just saying "The Security Council" or removed entirely.

It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

"Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with Ariusgrad but hopefully by reactions towards the proposal will help you better appeal to those who do not know Ariusgrad or are unfamiliar with what he has accomplished." As she rereads the proposal, Ambassador Amelia writes down a list of her concerns and suggestions of the proposal.
  • To get to understand how much Ariusgrad has done for the Philippines, I recommend briefly describing some of his most paramount achievements while serving as delegate, and further describe the region's previous state when it was "riddled with fleeting administrations, feuding member nations, and strong invasions."
  • Because the Philippines is a relatively small region, the draft in its current state will mostly appeal to a small crowd who are in the Philippines or recognize it as a successful region. I recommend adding more points focusing on more upon what Ariusgrad has done outside of the Philippines.
  • I think that the clause applauding Ariusgrad's ability to compromise and maintain positive relations with over 100 regions at a time is absolutely amazing, and this proposal would better appeal to nations outside of the Philippines if you added more points like this. I suggest expanding upon this clause especially.

After handing her list to the ambassador of Lanaograd, Ambassador Amelia adds "I hope this helps, and good luck on your proposal. I will follow its progress and hopefully be able to help out with its drafting."
