*ABANDONED/DEAD/NO MORE* Repeal "Featured Region Followers"

Postby Ransium » Sat Sep 16, 2017 8:17 am

The World Assembly,

Acknowledging that in order for a commendation to continue to be meaningful, a nation or region receiving a commendation must be outstanding;

Feeling strongly that this august body must re-evaluate whether the act of traveling from region to region and posting nearly identical messages on Regional Message Boards truly meets this high standard;

Appreciating the period when The Featured Region Followers left custom messages for each region and promoted activity among visited region;

Regretting that, through no fault of the region, aggressive raiders discouraged the fun and friendly activities of members of the region;

Noting the claim made by SC#93, that The Featured Region Followers leave "personalized congratulatory messages" on featured region's Message Boards was exaggerated at the time of drafting, and now the messages being left are almost always rote and generic;

Aware that SC#93's assertion that "the World Factbook Entries of many featured regions are preserved on the Regional Message Board of The Featured Region Followers" omitted that archiving was sporadic even at its zenith and has become so rare that less than 10 Factbook Entries were archived in the years of 2015 and 2016 combined;

Dubious that the activities of nation's affiliated with The Featured Region Followers were ever due to regional efforts and teamwork rather than the singular efforts of nations;

Highlighting this point by observing that in recent years, often only a single nation affiliated with the region has traveled to featured regions, if any;

Chagrined that, due to a decline in activity, efforts to assure that member nations presence is welcome in visited regions have been abandoned, sometimes causing affiliated nations to be ejected;

Convinced that for the above reasons, while The Featured Region Followers' contributions to the NationStates Community remain on the whole positive, they do not rise to the extremely high standard of a commendation;

Hereby repeals SC#93, "Commend The Featured Region Followers".

Relevant text:
As for the content of the messages they leave, they've been at it for five years--sometimes the messages are just a simple "Congrats!" Each time they visit, you can't expect a Shakespearean sonnet (Though "Shall I compare thy region to a summer's day?" would be an interesting poem).

Support. Currently I can't find anything wrong, but I will take a closer look later.

After being contacted by a member of the region, I have made some adjustments to be as accurate as possible, while also being as respectful to the region as possible.

How has this not been repealed already?

If you're asking about "NationStates Community" it has been ruled legal: viewtopic.php?p=2869456&sid=861181ab5c7f7eeb7965bcdf0173ba2f#p2869456

It was a very popular resolution at the time of passing because the region has no natural enemies and they were truly a kick when they were at their peak.

Oh, Ransium, you are making me feel bad.

As a former member of the FRFs, I'm appalled that anyone would take away our commendation. I mean, their commendation of course.

And yet...

And yet, a lot of what you state, plus some long stretches of regional inactivity, are exactly the reasons why I left the region a couple years ago.

That said, I genuinely don't like the idea of repealing commendations like this. To take a page from real life, if we were to commend General Washington for all the good he's done as Commander-in-Chief, should we repeal that commendation when he leaves public life and retires to Mount Vernon? I don't think so.

Dang it! I thought the biggest risk to this is that I'm a big softy and Herby would make me feel guilty. I worry about someone repealing this who doesn't remember when the region was really fun or the founder CTEing and the commend being a major target (which repealing would only make bigger at that point), but fine, I'll let this go.

So, TFRF is going to go the way of The Quote Of The Day...

TFRF was far more worthy of Commendation than TQOTD and it was this selling point that saw them Commended in a time when such things were handed out far more freely. The author of Commend TFRF is a nation that I consider to be an ally of mine and truly a friend when my nation faced a crisis. For that reason, I will personally be voting against.

Good luck, Ransium!

I feel like this should stay. It's a more light hearted resolution and that's something that the SC doesn't really have so much of. Not everything should be 'srs bsns'.

I don't get why this is being repealed, TFRF were very prominent back when it was commended (and for many years before it.) Repealing a commendation just because a region declines seems a cruel fate.
