My Two Cents - Make Condemnations Active Again

Postby Rainengrad » Sat Sep 09, 2017 1:34 pm

Before anything shows up in here, i want to clarify that i'm not doing anything more than giving you my humble opinion, my two cents.

To be quite honest, i am sick of the Security Council's latest issue. It has happened three times (if not more, i myself have not been watching the Security Council), that resolutions repealing the condemnation of raider regions or nations are showing up at the Council and, what is even worse, they get approved, under the sorry excuse that ''Condemnations are treated by Raiders as awards/badges''. I do not know whether it is, or not, true. But what i do know, is that we should leave Raiders treat their god-damned condemnations however their want - and those whose condemnations have been repealed, should have them back, if they so much love them.

''Why? What are your fundaments to believe that?'' you might ask. Well, i'm going to tell you what. From their begginings, Condemnations have been more important than we think. They look like they serve no use other than decorating one's wall, just like Commendations. And they do just that! But just like barbarian Raider nations look at them like they are medals, civilized nations like noble Defenders or random citizens like myself can look at them as a sign that says, ''this nation is absolutely not to be trusted''. Get rid of that, and what have we got? A nation capable of manipulating uninformed citizens of raidable regions via telegram for their evil deeds, given that no warning is visible at their profiles for begginer nations that have no idea of what a Raider is (or even experienced citizens who don't bother to check their change of region events at their feed, when the Raider nation resorts to changing regions for the Raider region it comes off not to show up in their profile).

Don't be bothered for how Raiders might treat Condemnations amongst themselves. Focus on how Condemnations are treated by decent nations, like me and you. As a sign. And just like it wouldn't be right to outlaw road signs, those who make drivers aware of the dangers present ahead, you should also do the right thing in this case.

Give them their ''badges'' again.

All the nations with their condemnations being repealed were deleted by the mods as a result of the predator scandal and can never be restored. The 'signs' (ie the badges) are already gone because the nations don't exist and never will again.

That's really not the point here. Those nations were deleted for cheating, and got those condemnation by cheating. The condemnations should have been wiped along with their nations, as far as I'm concerned.

Plenty of raider commendations are not in line to be repealed any time soon, even though treated as badges. The two my region holds are evidence of such. These in question are...special circumstances, players that most of the raiding community even has shunned internally for various reasons. These being repealed are being argued along the lines of "they don't even deserve a badge."

As the person who's taking point on this project right now, this pretty much sums it up.

I'm not seeking to universally wipe everyone's condemnation. After the Kknight repeal goes through, I'm going to write a repeal of TBR's condemnation and then that'll be it. The only other player who was condemned as well as wiped out by Predator was Vandoosa, and I'm not going to touch that one because AFAIK, Vandy was cooperative during the investigation.

TBR deserves their dual condemnations for raiding for a long time and raiding well. Gest doesn't deserve his for cheating.

The problem is, the majority of players in the know understand the 'award for good playing of evil' thing.

And then there's the problem of condemnations given to nations that do II as very evil nations, but might be genuinely great people in person to person OOC interactions (like Automagfreak, among at least a few others).

That explains why i didn't find links to those nations with repealed condemnations.

I think they must be, since they can't be refounded and nobody can see a deleted nation's page.

You mean your community doesn't support Predator, even though it makes the thing easier?

My apologies. Should i had paid more attention, i would have noticed those condemnations you seek to repeal are all Predator-related, and since not even the Raider community acknowledge those guys as good raiders, they deserve to be stripped of their badges.

That is true. Most of the time, nations do not represent our political views or personality. Lots of people here at NationStates are good people, regardless of the actions of their nations. And with ''barbarian Raider nations'', i mean that. Nations. Not the people behind them.

But because that understanding exists for RP 'evil' nations, there's no reason it can't exist for GP 'villain' nations (not everyone who raids embraces their role as the antagonists, but the ones that seek condemnation do)
