Looking for an SC Mod...

Postby Sedgistan » Sat Feb 18, 2017 9:51 am

As per Mall's post here, we're potentially looking to bring a new mod on board who has Security Council experience. While the SC is fairly low-maintenance, we're hoping for someone who can spearhead changes to both the SC and gameplay.

Instructions on how to nominate someone can be found here.

Indeed. Don't feel the need to nominate everyone though, only players you seriously believe would be a good moderator.

It is a pity Elias isn't around. I'd nominate him in a heartbeat.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

This awesome to hear, as it would be great for the SC to have a meaningful function again. I'm hoping this means there's some plans in the work and we need new faces with more spare time to help it along.

Good luck to everyone!

Hmmm you know if might be worth considering doing a a version of the GA's Secretariats for the SC.

You'd have a better selection of individuals if it wasn't quite Mod-level, and you could do a handful rather than just one Mod.

The problems of the SC are of a different nature than the ones of the GA. Thus, it requires a different solution.

It's bad enough with all the backseat moderators tbh.

If you're referring to players like BBD and Kaboom, then they're just helping the community, not "back seat" moderating. Those are two guys that would make pretty good SC mods.

Heh heh I remember that, but you've come along way. I bumbled around my first few years, generally you gotta make a lot of mistakes to get good at something.

I do think Bhang Bhang Duc would make a good mod.

To what degree does becoming a mod require stepping back from game play? I think that element is what makes it hard to come up with Mod suggestions.

That's a difficult question to answer, because it depends. While I was a forum mod I had to be extremely careful not to ever put myself in a situation where I was moderating a situation I was involved in on the forums, or in gaining an advantage over other players through the use (whether deliberate or not) of mod powah. I did, however, continue to raid and lead operations. As a Game Mod this becomes exponentially more difficult, to the point where I'm better off retiring from active raiding/gameplay.

Moderation is a position of trust, and even a (reasonable) perception that a Mod is using their powers for ingame benefit is problematic.
