I'm looking for defenders who may know more than me about the situation to comment (I.E., probably all of them), but...

Iran.

Has anyone been looking at Iran? To me it looks like a Persian griefing and occupation recycling the quiet, sneaky technique they used in Greece. Iran has a long and storied history in NS: in 2004, Carinthe invaded the Rejected Realms, as revenge for RRA's defense of Iran. But today, it appears to have been essentially griefed into non-existence without raising much notice.

I regret not noticing when I was actively defending but the truth is the way this has been pursued, it wouldn't have registered as an invasion and griefing except in hindsight. We would have been crucified for intervening against the Persians in Iran because their method of invasion, infiltration, makes it difficult to discern who is a native.

Note: Gharechi = Avalonian Persia.

I believe the Persian force plopped themselves in Iran mid-2013 pretending to be natives, raised political agitation against the delegate, and took the delegacy under the guise of a grassroots revolution. Two subsequent delegates oversaw the griefing of Iran quietly: tricking natives into abandoning the region for a puppet dump for "security reasons," ejecting and banning dissidents, and ultimately changing the password to cement their hold on Iran. The response from natives (a WA Liberation which was ignored for its rule violations, and some general flaming) didn't raise enough attention to the crisis.

Backstory

August 5/7, 2013 - A group of those involved with the latter griefing appeared out of the blue, Gharechi and Persepolis the Great. Persepolis the Great was created that day. Gharechi released a dispatch that day explaining their "intentions" for moving to Iran. This "group" tended to agitate things, raising issues with the delegate on the RMB, questioning the extent of the delegate's allegiance and nationalism, accusing them of pro-Nazism, and suggesting he is the source of the region's troubles with invaders.

(September 2013 - I believe Iran is defended by the UDL from a traditional R/D invasion unrelated to this larger narrative.)

December 8, 2014: Baharestan takes the delegacy.
December 18-ish, 2013: I believe The United States of Iramerica, the former delegate, was ejected and banned around then (or at least some of his friends). He was irate.
January 5, 2014: Baharestan ejects Parisastan and suppresses some posts. 1

Baharestan's new WFE suggests "All non-WA nations, please move to the Shahish Empire or anywhere outside Iran for greater security." The Shahish Empire is a puppet dump related to the Persian Empire. By suggesting non-WA nations move there, he's clearing the region of non-WAs and keeping the WAs for the influence.

Gharechi defends this new policy virgoursly against natives like Zoroastrian kingdom of eranshahr over the RMB. ( Zoro: "Do you think that you can just cultivate Iran to your and your buddies' interests? We aren't going to the Shahish Empire and you can't force anyone to go there! ")

Gharechi wrote:Anybody not in the WA and endorsing Baharestan should leave.

You all do understand that this is a zero-sum game, right? Our friend Baharestan needs as much influence as he can get, but only a limited amount is distributed to all the region members every update. So anybody not contributing to his influence by endorsing him is leeching it away from him, making his job harder. So if you want what's best for Iran, you need to either join the WA and endorse Mr. Baharestan, or leave. Because if you don't do one of those two things (preferably the first), then YOU ARE HURTING THIS REGION!

And I remind you, Rohamistan, the founder of the Shahish Empire, has already said he would welcome anybody from this region into his. Why not take him up on his offer?

Thank you very much.

May 05 2014: Avalonian Persia takes the delegacy after the old delegate CTE's.
May 12 2014: The United States of Iramerica submits a WA Liberation of Iran. 2 He cites an invasion that took place February 2014 (I believe he means December and this is an error.) He's banned from the WA for plagiarizing "Liberate Greece." :(
May 19, 2014: Persepolis the Great takes the delegacy after Avalonian Persia only a few days later.
August 8, 2014: His co-delegate, Avalonian Persia CTE's.
August 15, 2014: Persepolis changes the regional password to Iran 3
September 8, 2014: Twenty four days later, Persepolis resigns from the WA.
November 5 2014: Saloth Sar actually asks on the RMB if anyone even knows the password anymore and is never responded to publicly. This was the last post on the RMB.

Since then, Iran has sat inaccessible and inactive.

Natives: The United States of Iramerica and Saloth Sar are worth contacting for information.

Can we condemn 0000 or Ancient Lands (not sure which is the head) but having the largest empire of RL place names but keeping them as puppet dumps and preventing them from being used?

^^ This looks like a pretty standard password griefing on Roman Empire's part. Plus they've attached half a dozen TRE accounts as Regional Officers.

A WA Liberation may be necessary?

Notes:
Jan 13, 2018 12:00 EST. Truviel (Kyorgia) locks the region.

I think some progress stalled on some of the commendations that people had been planning to pursue.

I was planning on trying to commend Caracasus before I was moded. I think the combination of WA/Issues/RP/regional involvement would have been a slam dunk. Alas, I don’t know if I will ever have the time to get to it, so it may be worth adding to your list.

What about Roavin or Duxburian Union/Vincent Drake? They may not have been around very long, but both are probably deserving of a commendation.

This is more true of Roavin than Vinny, not because Vinny doesn’t have a long career ahead of him, but (at least GP-wise) he pretty much just defends, and afaik isn’t interested in getting into politics. (I will admit to not knowing squat about what he does in EU, besides being founder now). With Roavin though, he’s into politics, so there may be more from him later

The Duxburian Union is a fundamental cornerstone of European Union. He has served in numerous important government positions for a number of years and has created important tools and indexes that are central to the region's roleplay experience. The refounding of the region, as far as I know, was orchestrated and executed through his leadership and effort. The EU, in its current form, has been functioning for around a dozen years and DU/Vinny is a large part of that.

I think it's more commendable now than it used to be back in the day. You might be able to cobble together a good argument. The issue with Europe in the past is they've been tarred with a deserved reputation for being authoritarian, isolationist, and in the bag for NPO. I don't think that that characterization holds as much anymore with Europe in WALL.
