I’m considering starting a draft to commend Atlantian Oceania. Any suggestions on material or sources to find it?

Atlantian Oceania would be commended for their NS Sports achievements, so looking into both NS sports and the Atlantian Oceania residents who do NS sports would be a good start, as well as the NS sports discord (https://discord.gg/jHkfxHJ). There's a lotta folks there who know quite a bit about NS sports so they would be good people to ask about AO as well ^-^

I think I would just wait it out! In the meantime you should be able to get some helpful insight from some of the newer members of AO, and begin your preliminary research.

Additionally, 95X isn't interested in participating in commendation discussions for "political reasons". (Both IC and OOC.)

I think it could be helpful to consider future ideas for the SC. The reality is the game has changed, and while some on this list remain good candidates for a C&C (Roavin, Atlantian Oceania), the opportunity has sorta passed for a lot of the folks listed in the OP. It's startling for an old geezer like me to look at the list of active regions and not recognize many of them (they're all card farms right?).

I will say that if anybody wants to have a go at a C&C for somebody active in the 2003-05 period, I'm happy to share what I can recall.

AO's golden era was a good few years ago, so the old-timers aren't always on and eager to shamelessly self-promote like that. Another issue you might face is that AO isn't all that involved in the WA, so quite what qualities and proven achievements you might need to know for a SC Commendation proposal might not be obvious for our members.

A more-than-decent number of AO nations have already been commended for their individual works (Commerce Heights, Audioslavia, Valanora and myself, for example), and while that was never done directly as a concerted AO effort, it very much speaks to the culture of the region that Vilita crafted in those early days of the mid 2000s.

I'd point to the success, for instance, of the Atlantian Oceania Confederation of Association Football, which is by far the oldest regional football/soccer organisation on NS (currently running the 63rd edition), and is pretty much the NS equivalent of UEFA, given the average strength of the nations present in it, and it's history of community leaders and organisers. The AOCAF Cup is the oldest and arguably most prestigious regional tournament on NS, and has not just been a closed shop dominated by users who enter the World Cup, either, as teams like Pacitalia (the record-holding 10-times winners), Lamoni and 95X - none of whom are known for their NSWC involvement - have all lifted the trophy.

AO already has a lot of members who have individually shone, but if we look at regions as a whole, Rushmore (especially Eura) has taken the lead for the NS Sports community-wide events (especially for April Fools) while Esportiva has historically been the region that has been friendly to newcomers and are responsible for many of the innovations we have seen in recent years in terms of hosting tournaments.

AO already has a lot of members who have individually shone, but if we look at regions as a whole, Rushmore (especially Eura) has taken the lead for the NS Sports community-wide events (especially for April Fools) while Esportiva has historically been the region that has been friendly to newcomers and are responsible for many of the innovations we have seen in recent years in terms of hosting tournaments.

I think all three are strong choices for commendation — AO more as a legacy nominee. I remember a lot of good friends from Esportiva.

A legacy region, they used to do a lot of mercenary work, claim to be the first region to take over all the warzones simultaneously, and have absorbed some dying regions including Dethklok 1000. Don't know what else they've done, other than continuously supply beer kegs to their embassies.

I think One Big Island is a good idea!!

I consider them a longstanding cultural institution in NS like the Featured Regions greeters. I would love to see commendations for regions that, while smaller, have become mainstays of the international community

Arguably I don't think they should be commended. They've had significant problems where moderation is concerned within their region over the last few years and haven't had any significant impact on interregional relations.

That's fair enough. I will take them off the list. I'm not in a position to really judge a lot of newer regions and I'm frankly not on the up and up on a lot of internal politics.

I was just pointing out that there's several regions that are about 10000 Islands' size and age at the time of 10KI's first commendation and that the WASC would have to continually reassess what is successful etc. in this game as time passes.

I find, especially as an older player, that my mental model put regions like Euro and 10KI in a special distinct category of UCRs, and everything else is significally less established, but that mental model is flawed. The WASC has to, as an organization, live in the present and assess what success and establishment and contribution means in terms of today.
