[Draft] Repeal "Condemn Aglrinia"

Postby Milograd » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:58 pm

This was a hard one to write given the unusual formatting of Aglrinia's condemnation and the rare mixture of content ranging from II roleplay to in-game invasions.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a rewrite that acknowledges some of Aglrinia's RP and the incident in Balder.

Repeal "Condemn Aglrinia"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation
Category: Repeal || Resolution: SC#113 || Proposed by: Milograd
The Security Council,

Recalling that SC#113 condemns Aglrinia for a laundry list of actions,

Disappointed at Aglrinia's civil rights violations and wanton destruction, but also believing that many of the listed actions are undeserving of exceptional recognition in the form of a condemnation because Aglrinia does not stand out amongst its fellow, and perhaps more troublesome, violators,

Noting that the nation's condemnation lists largely common offenses, such as unfair marriage laws and condoning torture,

Regretting that several clauses in the resolution, such as the one that acknowledges Aglrinia's refusal to allow its citizens to fly a foreign flag above the national flag, and that detained peoples are assumed to be guilty unless proven innocent, misleadingly depict internationally common practices as though they were unusual crimes, and thus serve to add undue weight to the condemnation,

Seeing that Kami No Chikara, which was a region that Aglrinia founded, was also cited as a significant reason that Aglrinia deserved to be condemned,

Acknowledging that the region, rather than being an influential invader army, only had an active population for just over two months,

Observing the exaggeration of the region's destruction insofar as the two regions that were "destroyed" by Kami no Chikara, Great German Empire and UGFLSPN, were not populated by more than a couple of active nations at the time of their occupation, and that Great German Empire is no longer even under Kami no Chikara's control,

Realizing retrospectively that the notoriety and history of Kami no Chikara was incredibly brief and that the region, according to its world factbook entry, is "nothing but a glimpse of what it once was", and is thus irrelevant both in history and in modern times,

Ultimately believing that the hyperbolic, or in some cases completely misleading, descriptions of the extent of Aglrinia's impact on the world externally, the superfluous facts in the resolution, render the condemnation poorly supported and deserving at least a repeal, and at most of a replacement that acknowledges atrocities such as the attack on Balder,

Hereby Repeals SC#113, "Condemn Aglrinia".

Looks good. Two small things:
Disappointed at Aglrinia's civil rights violations and wanton destruction, but also believing that many of the listed actions are undeserving of exceptional recognition in the form of condemnation because Aglrinia does not stand out amongst its fellow, and perhaps more troublesome, violators,

Shouldn't it be "of a condemnation"? Rather than "of condemnation"?

Seeing that Kami No Chikara, which a region that Aglrinia founded, was also cited as a significant reason that Aglrinia deserved to be condemned,

Shouldn't it be "which was a region"? Rather than "which a region"?

Looks like I left a part of the pre-edit sentence in. Fixed.

Noting that the nation's condemnation lists largely common offenses, such as unfair marriage laws and condoning torture, though the latter is not as much rare as a practice internationally as its practice is rare as public knowledge,

I think the second part of the sentence is a bit muddled.

Regretting that several clauses in the resolution, such as the one that acknowledges Aglrinia's refusal to allow its citizens to fly a foreign flag above the national flag, and that detained peoples are assumed to be guilty unless proven incident

Innocent, surely?

I do understand why the SC would remove a condemnation of a nation because its human rights violations are middle of the pack of the world's major human rights violators... why not just condemn the even worse violators? The peoples whose rights were violated by Aglrinia still matter.

Given that I'm not closed to the idea of a rewrite, that's not necessarily what's happening.

I actually know Aglrinia's RP history and would say that he is a solid candidate for an RP condemnation. He might not be the most prolific violator around but he's certainly done some things and made his contributions over the years.

However, he condemnation is pretty terrible and doesn't make much, if any, sense as a unit. It includes couping Balder in the same resolution as ... not letting people fly their flag higher than Alrginia's flag and women being cheated by divorce laws. All of the good reasons to condemn him are drowned out by bad reasons to condemn him or reasons that don't make sense in the same resolution as the good reasons, and it becomes a mess because of this. The goal is to fix that.
