Security Council Roleplay?

Postby Unibot » Tue Jun 09, 2009 11:10 am

I was planning to do something like the WA Stranger's Bar for the Security Council, like a Golf Course/Country Club where WASC members could let off steam.

But I wondered if the roleplay would be appropriate or not because the WASC being more gameplay-ish in style would not offer an 'ambassador', so much as a 'nation' as a character.

So I figure this should be a community decision.

Roleplay? or not?

And how?

I might just appoint another ambassador for the new council and play in character.

But there lies the question,

How will the roleplay work?

I think its an important question to ask because the recent kahuffle that was blown out of proportion - which is why the WASC was created, was all because the gameplay way of playing didn't complement the style of roleplay in the General Assembly.

It seems to me, with the creation of the WASC, this is the gameplayer's chance to declare their own rules on roleplaying and set up shop - that is, if we will even roleplay.

So what do the gameplays think?

I don't see the harm in creating a sticky-thread for it and let people use it for whatever they see fit. I think mob-mentallity will pretty much take over for people to 'blend' when arriving. If it doesn't turn out to be RP then I'll just come in and chat whenever I happen to be drunk at home. o_O

The WA subfora are primarily reserved for discussing issues, not dedicated roleplay. Let's just stick with the roleplay-ish threads we already got,

I was just considering a Stranger's Bar -esque thread for the WASC, that's all.

We already have the original Strangers' Bar, which anyone is free to post in. Why do we need another?

I think you might be right. However I still need to expand my team to deal with the new types of resolutions. I wonder, what about Meet the Reps, WASC edition?

Well its in the General Assembly Subforum now. I understand its name is the World Assembly's Strangers Bar and not the General Assembly's Strangers Bar - but its separation for the Security Council subforum still stands, and besides - how is one suppose to walk in the Strangers Bar and talk about Security Council stuff like Liberation resolutions or C&Cs without disturbing the RP style of the Strangers Bar. I think this a good chance for gameplayers to explore their style of RP - which was why I was trying to consult them on it.

And you'd think members of the Security Council would have a place to chill by themselves too...

I'm sure I won't be the only person hard ignoring IC mention of the Security Council, so I'd actually prefer you kept RP references of it to this forum. If that means a new Strangers' Bar, so be it.

Just a caveat, don't start any forum games of the sort that lost me an eyebrow to Lapse on NS2. We got away with that because NS2 had a spam forum, but this board doesn't. We do, however, have a rule that forum games are spam. So no "Grant a Wish" and so on.

I agree with Kenny. As two branches of the same organization, I don't see a need for the World Assembly Strangers' Bar to "fork". If there's enough new ambassadors to merit some kind of lounge, then one can be created then.

And in response to QoD, I don't feel like the rest of the community should go out of its way to uphold a single player's IGNORE.

QoD quite rightly pointed out that he wont be the only one.

Well, leaving aside the question as to why gameplay-based discussions need to be roleplayed in the first place, I already said before that these are not dedicated roleplay forums; if you want roleplay, there are five whole subforums under "Diplomacy" you can use. Just because we're starting a new subforum here does not mean it automatically needs its own roleplay topics -- primarily because roleplay is not the main reason we're here. We're supposed to be discussing issues, not creating excuses for our ambassadors to run around naked with lampshades over their heads.

Besides, diplomats are discouraged from discussing proposals and resolutions in the Strangers' Bar; it's supposed to be an atmosphere to cool off from heated debates, not restart them elsewhere. It seems to me the Security Council ambassadors can cool off just as easily as the General Assembly ambassadors can in the same establishment -- especially since they're supposed to belong to the same organization.

EDIT: completely off-topic, but how come you have an image in your sig, when the option is disabled for most of us?

Fair enough. I think I'll take up Goobergunchia's trail of thought on the matter.... and just wait and see.
