Looking for a new SC mod

Postby Crazy girl » Fri Jul 31, 2026 2:26 am

What we are Looking For:

We are looking to increase our Moderator coverage for the Security Council now HS is resigning we'll sadly need to replace him, and therefore we want to add a Moderator to the team with experience of participation in the SC, and with a desire to moderate in this area and to enforce the Security Council proposal rules. While the Security Council as a whole is relatively "low maintenance" in normal circumstances, following a couple of recent retirements, I'd love to have some company to discuss the proposals with and rule on them (and someone to fetch me coffee), and we feel it would be prudent to have an additional pair of hands to help out, and provide a diversity of viewpoints. (and cover me when I'm off to the seaside).

We are looking for people who meet the following criteria:
  • Post regularly in the Security Council forum. While authoring experience is not a necessity, it would be of great benefit, and helps to demonstrate experience with the Security Council proposal rules.
  • Happy to act as a Moderator within the Security Council. While we don't have time requirements for our volunteer staff, you do need to be willing to invest some time in learning our policies and responding to reports; we would also need you to be able to regularly review submitted proposals for legality. It is also worth bearing in mind that being a Moderator may impinge on your posting as a player - if you are an active participant in campaigning on a particular proposal, then for conflict of interests reasons you would not be able to perform moderator duties related to it.
  • A willingness to use Discord for intra-team communication, as this makes a massive difference in supporting each other with both initial training and also when seeking advice on rulings.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be willing to bring CG coffee and all the danishes
How to Apply:

We are welcoming both nominations of other players, and applications directly from people interested in filling the role themselves. If you are interested in this role, or you wish to nominate someone for it, please contact us via Getting Help Request. If you are nominating someone, please make sure they are interested first.

Supporting information on why you think yourself (or your nominee) may be a good Moderator is essential. Please see this post for guidelines on what to include in your application/nomination.

FAQs:

What's the deadline for applying?
There is no particular deadline for applications - when we are no longer looking, this announcement will be taken down. We will look to update people on our progress on a regular basis.

How many people are you looking for?
We expect to appoint one Moderator, but depending on the applications that come through, may consider additional appointments.

I don't participate in the Security Council forums but still want to be a Moderator - can I apply?
Please do not. It is vital you have an understanding of the Security Council that has come through involvement in it.

I have some blemishes on my Moderation record. Can I still apply?
Yes. This is considered as part of the Moderator team review.

Please feel free to ask any other questions you have in this thread, but do not use it for applications/nominations.

What exactly would the mod's duties be in this position?
I'm just a silly guy! :3 I UwU and OwO alot, hope yall don't mind! Oh and I love to Boop! people, and I love pat pat!s Wish me luck here! ^w^ J'essaie aussi d'apprendre le français :p

New to NationStates? Don't go to the General forum.
It's tantalizing to throw your opinion in the ring, but it only results in utter chaos, no matter what you say. Left, Right, Up, Down, it doesn't matter, all NSG does is polarize you. After you're polarized, no one can talk you out of your opinion. No matter how wrong it may be.
Go to General Assembly and participate in debates there! It's much more logical and less polarized because those resolutions will actually have an effect on nations.

I should preface by saying I am not a member of site staff.

NS moderators rule on the legality of proposals both in submission and on the forums. I would imagine that as Crazy Girl has requested an SC mod, this is what they are looking for. The above post also vaguely suggests that they want this new moderator to enforce NS' rules in the SC forum, and engage in rule change discussions. These mods typically have a gameplay bent.

This may be irrelevant, however, as you are likely not the intended audience of this post. That's not an insult - I'm assuredly not either.

Answers my question well, thanks!
