The gasmask is there not just as a visual thing but also serves a real tactical purpose.
In Hraun, chemical weapons is allowed. Gas grenades may be used and the troopers wont be affected because of the gasmask.
The climate is also cold and rough with few tree's in the badlands and alot of cold harsh wind.
The army also favours trenches.

Medium Warp armour is worn by those in the latter years of the Apoctian Guard, who then go on to become part of the Apoctian army, however this cleaned up version of the armour, is not the exact ooh. Imagine maybe a little battle worn, some blood, and mutations like horns and stuff.
