The Death Penalty is a last resort sentence carried by the State.Normally the death penalty is only sentenced to condemn men/women whom had committed crimes in the State's beyond the State's capability to rehabilitate them especially serial killers and mass murders. The death penalty is carried in three ways, following to the severity to the crime, the most lenient and "painless" is lethal injection, secondly is hanging and for the most hardcore,it's the firing squad

Capital punishment is unconstitutional to be handed out by civilian court for civilian crime. However certain crimes are considered military crime and is trialled under military court which hands down capital punishment, namely:
  • Treason
  • Serial Murder
In addition to these two crimes, judge of any civilian court is free to refer the matter to military court for a trial under military court, should s/he feel necessary.

In the HCSK, the death penalty can be sought in any case where an act of violence greater than simple assault was intentionally committed. There are some crimes that are classified as "violent felonies" that aren't considered such in other nations; for instance, treason, and dealing cocaine or any derivative thereof. Espionage and unlawful combatants may be summarily executed, although this is becoming curtailed under alliance membership in the Fegosian Union and the Delian League. Desertion from the military during times of war and mutiny [any time] are executable offenses upon being found guilty at a courts martial or a captain's mast.

The Fegosian Union Criminal Court can hear cases and appeals from member nations. However, if the accused seeks FUCC trial before exhausting the HCSK judicial chain, the accused will be stripped of their citizenship, pending outcome of the trial. The FUCC is currently convened in the nation of Alfegos.

The death penalty is the punishment for only a few crimes.

- Resisting arrest (only crime where summary execution may be used by an agent of the court)
- Treason
- The "Heinous offenses": (torture, rape, murder, any violent crimes against the "defenseless" - children, the elderly, mentally ill, disabled etc)

Executions are carried out by beheading.

The GSD considers murder to be one of the worst crimes in existence. So no, our government does not commit it.

In the Glorious and Everlasting nation of Fat Man & The Baby, we use a method called "The Moose" - It's very similar, except we use the intestines of a moose instead. Not a big moose mind you. A small one. A small, sick one.

In the People's Republic of Democratic Koyro the death penalty is enforced for all those whom murder a citizen, harm the people as a whole, attempt to destabalize the government or undermine the authority of the People's Leader.

Under the old Communist Party regime, the death penalty was used against political prisoners, as well as murderers, rapists, and the like.

Now, with the Communist Party out of power, we use it only on the most severe criminals. For now, a firing squad is the preferred method.

Counter-revolutionaries should be met with force both during the revolutionary struggle, and in the society which it gives birth to, because at the end of the day, we're not just protecting our petty whims, we are protecting lives.
Boredom is counter-revolutionary.

He may be hanged, drawn and quartered.
First the prisoner is dragged on wooden frame to the site of his execution (drawn). Then he is hung repeatedly by the neck until almost dead and is released before the final moment - this is meant to act as pre-emptive torture. The executioner will then strap the naked prisoner down onto a rack (usually to a public audience) and perform the most gruesome part of the method. He is castrated and disemboweled on the spot, and his respective body organs (genitalia, entrails, and others) are set aflame in front of his very eyes. He would still be alive at that point and will be decapitated. His body parts would then be cut up in four pieces to be gibbeted (put on public display) in different parts of the country to deter future treason.

He may be killed in a Brazen Bull.
The Brazen Bull is made completely out of brass and in the shape of a bull. It is hollow and had a door opening into it from the side. While it doesn't sound intimidating, the special function of the bull would strike fear into the hearts of anyone during that time. First you are locked inside and a fire was set under the bull, causing the metal to heat up to the point where it became yellow hot. With no way to escape, you're left to slowly roast inside the device. This is much more grisly than being burnt at the stake, since the agony is extended significantly longer. In addition to that, the head of the ox was built with a system of tubes and stops so when you screamed, the sounds would be manipulated to sound like an angry bull - hence the name. Your screams of agony would be amplified as you roasted and the smoke would rise in "spicy clouds of incense."

He may be impaled.
The process of piercing someone with a long sharp stake. Penetration could be from many different sides but in this particular method, the stake was inserted through the rectum, vagina, or through the mouth. The victim would be tied up and a cut was made between the rectum and genitals, where a sharp pole with a blunt end was driven through. The blunt end ensured the damage to the body wouldn't cause death too quickly by pushing important organs to the side. The other end of the stake came out of the upper half of the body, typically out of the sternum. A person can live for as many as three days as he is hoisted up in the air, suspended to die slowly in agony.

He may choose scaphism.
First you were stripped naked and tied inside a back-to-back pair of rowing boats. Sometimes a hollowed out tree trunk is used. You are tied down in such a way that you have no way of escaping. You are then force-fed milk and honey to the point where you develop extreme diarrhea, causing an accumulation of feces inside the boat where you are trapped. Your executioners will then proceed to rub honey on your body to attract even more insects, such as stinging bees. Hands, head, and feet will protrude out of the boat, for attracting hungry insects. Typically, you would be left to the burning sun or forced to float on a stagnant pond of water. The pain would have been unimaginable, especially due to insects breeding within your own gangrenous flesh (including laying of eggs) as you succumbed to physical and psychological pain, diarrhea, delirium, nausea, dehydration, starvation, septic shock, and so on. Sometimes the force-feeding would be repeated to make sure you don't die too soon, prolonging the suffering. It should be noted that one cannot usually die from the mass of insect bites and stings alone. Asphyxia can sometimes occur if the insects (such as ants) swarm enough to enter your body through the ears, mouth, and nose, and enter the lungs. The 'feeding' can take place from the 'inside out.' That should leave a bit of imagination to the degree of pain you might feel if you undergo scaphism. Imagine feeling the prickling of every single bite and sting of those insects as you are left to rot in a pool of your own increasing mass of feces.
The torture and resulting death may last for days and was humiliating.

He may be crucified.
The man would have his skin torn from an initial flagellation (severe whipping) and was forced to drag the 300 pound cross to his site of execution. The victim's hands are outstretched and nailed to the cross, either through the palms or wrists (differing ways existed). Sometimes the heels of the feet are were also nailed, which would have caused tremendous pain. The victims are then left to die on the cross, exposed to the blistering heat of the sun. Death usually occurred from sepsis, hypovolemic shock, dehydration, or from the pain itself. Asphyxiation also occurs since the victim isn't able to draw air into his lungs due to the difficulty of inhaling, and he would have to draw support with his outstretched arms (or use his nailed feet), leading to increasing exhaustion. The process of death is very slow and painful, sometimes lasting for days.

He may choose bestiarii.
As a means of torturous capital punishment, death by wild beasts was a punishment for enemies of the state, a category which included those taken prisoner and slaves found guilty of a serious crime. These were sent to their deaths naked and unable to defend themselves against the beasts. Even if they succeeded in killing one, fresh animals were continually let loose on them, until the bestiarii were all dead. It is reported that it was seldom necessary for two beasts to be required to take down one man. On the contrary, one beast frequently dispatched several men.

He may choose crushing.
The victim is crushed by elephants or a large stone. His choice.

He may choose the snake pit.
Convicts are cast into a deep pit containing venomous snakes, such as vipers. They die from snake venom poisoning as the irritated snakes attacked them.

He may choose the Marlencomian necktie.
A Marlencomian necktie is a method of execution where the victim’s throat is slashed (with a knife or other sharp object) and their tongue is pulled out through the open wound.

He may choose the blood eagle.
When a person is to be executed in this way, they are forced to lie face down on a table while the executioner cuts a slit in their back giving access to the ribcage. The ribs are then cut so they expand out into the shape of wings. The executioner then removes the lungs of the (still living) victim and sprinkles salt in the wounds.

He may choose sawing.
The condemned is hung upside down and then sawed apart down the middle, starting at the crotch. Since the condemned is hanging upside-down, the brain received a continuous blood supply in spite of severe bleeding. The condemned would remain alive and conscious until the saw severed the major blood vessels of the abdomen, and sometimes even longer.

He may choose evisceration.
Evisceration is the removing of some or all of the vital organs, usually from the abdomen. The last organs to be removed were invariably the heart and lungs so as to keep the condemned alive (and in pain) as long as possible.

With a whopping 12 methods of execution Marlencom prides itself on the freedom of choice.
Shofercia wrote:And considering your past claims about Russia, such as "Soviet technology was shit", and "There was 7 fucking decades of Soviet rule that destroyed the economy", I have trouble taking anything you say about Russia seriously.

We mostly chose to re-educate our lawbreakers, however, if one proves to be so rebilous against the goverment that bringing them back into sciociety would be dangerous, and/or re-education didn't work, we either kill them, send them to slave labour camps, or conscript them into dangerous positions in the military.

Due to having a very peaceful and law-abiding population, we have no need for a death penalty. Serious crimes are a very rare occurrence. Often a short stay in the state prison suffices.

The death penalty has been outlawed since 1455 in Deus, on the account that, in the words of some:
Random Citizen---1464, Deus
"We just don't got any need for a death penalty. Yes, we have criminals of all kind and crime is low but certainly not gone. But why not rehabilitate the criminal or if they can't be cured, why not make them suffer by living on and knowing what they did and how it affected others? Yup ain't that the real question......Come back with my wallet!"

So, we have no death penalty and feel it is a truly unworthy and light form of punishment.

Historically the first settlers that arrived on Rainio were on Death Row in their former country.

The Death Penalty is outlawed and frowned upon even on consideration in Rainio. The highest form of punishment Rainio offers is Reconstructive Employment. The prosecuted will work in a special facilities during the entire sentence. Prisons exist only for certain misdemeanors or those deemed unable to attend this program.
