Here's how this thread works: You describe your ethnic group and a reason some of them are living in Sagatagan (for example, refugees), and we tell you how they fit into the rich tapestry of Sagat society!
Sagatagan is a confederation of radically democratic autonomous municipalities that spans the whole of the great Reo Sagata watershed; a zone almost as big as the Mississippi watershed. The nation has a socialist economic order of worker-controlled firms who operate in an exchange system midway between a market and a participatory planned economy, held together by municipal credit unions. The nation is recently industrialized and is switching increasingly to a more 'post-industrial' economy, but has managed to maintain its many rural communities and the ecological integrity of the nation. Most of the nation still lives outside of major urban centers.

Primary Religion: Atheism, indigenous superstition (similar to Celtic), and Liberation Catholic (a social, democratic version of Catholicism formed by heretical priests during the Revolution)
Family Structure: Sagat families live in communal households containing several couples, either siblings or nonrelated (when houses get over-crowded, young people in the community form new ones), usually with several generations- Sagat children grow up with or near their grandparents. Couples in Sagat households are not always married, and divorce does not always mean a separation of the household. Gender relationships in Sagat households are very egalitarian, and each member of a couple can work or stay at home- some married couples are both working while another couple in the house both stay home, and other households entrust some of their parenting to other nearby households (communities tend to be close-knit, as people tend to have grown up near each other). People who stay home tend to be paid by the household for their parenting work (and many communities even have homemaker's unions that double as cooperatives).
Social Values: Sagat social values are extremely liberal or libertarian, especially since the Revolution- the idea is freedom, and responsibility without judgement. Free speech, free assembly, free love, gender liberation, and racial equality with a degree of cultural pluralism are all prized by Sagats. Homosexuality, gambling, prostitution (carried out by sex worker's unions), drugs (including hard drugs), and other vices are legal here (and some, like marijuana use, are a part of our culture). That said, Sagats are not entirely individualistic; one is expected to recognize that their actions affect others, and to take others into account when acting. For this reason, contributing to the common good, taking care of your neighbors and even those far away, and environmental responsibility are extremely important.
History*: The Sagat people originally came south from Cnoc Coir as a tribal agrarian people, settling in what is now known as the Reo Sagata river valley, before a long campaign of colonization by a Spanish-speaking people. They eventually won their independence, becoming a constitutional monarchy, before a revolution roughly one generation ago establishing the modern confederation of autonomous municipalities known as Sagatagan.
Climate of Homeland*:Temperate, with warmer plains in the south, forested hills in the center, east, and west, and more mountainous wilderness in the north.
Diet*: Mostly grains and greens, a little meat. Mushrooms play a prized role.
Music*: Sagat traditional music utilizes guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, woodwinds, and simple drums, and consists mostly of dance tunes and ballads. Contemporary Sagat music is increasingly dominated by blues-infused rock and punk. Reggae and Hip Hop have just become known here and are starting to become popular.
