On topic: There are approximately 5.5 million active personnel in the Novariean military. Which is fairly small, but it's an all-volunteer professional service that prefers to rely on superior training, tactics and technology rather than pure numbers.

Regular Army can usually be about 5% of your population before things start to get messy. In a war with universal conscription, it can raise to 15% but not long term, otherwise the economy is going downhill fast.

We have over 1.1 billion people in our total population and we don't have a military of 6 million. That's a ridiculously high number, unless one is counting reserves, with full conscription.

From what I've heard, about 5% of your national population is about the maximum you can get away with having in the military on a permanent basis while still having decent (though certainly not cutting edge) weapons and equipment. Although obviously it can go higher for a certain period of time during a war, though obviously the more people in the military and the longer the war, the more wrecked your economy will be afterwards.

Our entire population is technically in the military, though not all are currently "activated" (And, "All" never will be, as that would be counter-productive). Those who are not, pursue economic activities. Think of most of the population as "reserve forces", receiving training once every once in a while, and spending the rest of the time as they please.

I think you'll find that North Korea is widely regarded as effectively a third world country because of the size of the army and the resources it takes up.

Of the others you mentioned, the US Army, plus reserves is less than 1% of the population, the same with China and Russia.

We don't have a "main army". Each regiment is more-or-less autonomous and can vary considerably in strength, so an exact total isn't easy to calculate. Our best estimate is about three million on active duty at any given time, with less than half being combat troops.

That's with a national population of ten billion. We aim for quality, not quantity. We'd eat most of these bloated, under-trained, under-equiped "armies" alive.

Basically 500 people, all unpaid volunteers, very unorganized and mainly there just to impress chicks.

If you WANTED to invade our nation (highly unlikely) you couldn't send troops because of the intense radiation, gamma, UV, atomic, almost all kinds are found here.
If you bombed us it would be a good laugh, as we have massive ancient catacombs of bomb shelters that can easily be converted into a fully functional, self sustaining society.
If you sent robots they'd have to get through the emergency EMP radiation, which is highly unlikely and even then if they busted through our defenses they'd have to drill through titanium to get to the first level of our catacombs.

Essentially, we're cockroaches, living in a place nobody else wants to live in, or could live in. It would just be an enormous waste of money and resources to invade our country, and we have absolutely no reason to invade any other country so...
