Natural gas – 77%

Stormaen's territorial waters contain expansive oil and natural gas fields and the country is expected to be self-sufficient in oil and gas until at least 2050, longer is renewables take more of a role. Due to the island's isolation, however, and its nearest neighbour being the already abundantly resource rich Canada, the country has no export market for its natural gas. Therefore almost all of Stormaen's natural gas is domestically consumed. This has kept energy prices much cheaper than comparative countries. In the late-70s and early-80s, for example, gas was so abundant and cheap that Stormaen Gas charged fixed monthly prices, rather than metering consumers' actual use. It is estimated between 80 and 160 years' worth of gas reserves remains.

Wind power – 19%

Stormaen is located in a windy environment (indeed, it's how the country got it's name) and is home to North America's largest offshore wind farm. In 1990, wind power accounts for less than 1% of Stormaen's energy requirements. In 2010 it accounted for 10%. Presently, just under one-fifth of Stormaen's energy needs are met by wind power.

Other renewables – 4%

Beginning in 2016, all newly-built housing estates in Stormaen will be required to have solar panels installed on the roof of every home. This is an expansion of an initiative began in 2008 that saw newly built houses fitted with solar panels and saw the country's power grid substantially boosted during peak times. It is estimated 20% of Stormaen's energy needs could be met this way by 2035.

It should be worth noting that in 1990, Stormaen was declared the world's second nuclear-free zone (after New Zealand), although the country has never had a nuclear power plant. The last coal power plant was shut down in 1998.
