I would assume the satellites would be orbiting with the island.
And there are Geostationary satellites, which stay still, hence the name.

So does earth, you can get them to a point where their orbit is at the exact same speed as earth and by doing so would they be fixed above a specific location.

A geostationary/Geosynchronous satellite DOES include a delay time in transmissions, though. It's not a terribly large one, but .25 of a second (Or higher, if you're using an internet connection, due to the mysteries of TCP/IP) could mean the difference between a surprise attack being faulted or succeeding. Also, due to the altitude needed for a geostationary orbit, it's probably safe to suggest that such launches are expensive, especially for a smaller nation's space administration

BTW guys, need some help in making a decision.

I'm looking to replace the Stryker as my wheeled APC, and right now my top two choices are the Fuchs, Boxer, and FNSS Pars.

Once I get this answered, I can post all my nation's APCs/IFVs...

The M87 and M88:
The M84 Family of Combat Vehicles:
Fast, Reliable, Survivable, Versatile and Cost Effective to operate, what more could you want?
Image

The M87 Armored Personnel Carrier:
Specifications:
Crew: 2-3+10
Dimensions:
Length: 8m
Width: 3.1m
Height: 2.7m
Ground Clearance: .4m
Primary Weapon: One Pintle Mounted Machine Gun or Remote Weapons Station, added at buyer's request.
Armor: 15 to 20mm of RHA with Kevlar/Nomex anti-spalling liner.
Weight: ~12.3 Tonnes (27,000lbs)
Powerplant: 1x KA D1206T Diesel Engine, producing 570hp.
Top Speed (On road): 120km/h (~75mph)
Top Speed (Offroad): 80km/h (~50mph)

The M87 APC was a quick and dirty conversion of the M84 hull, in order to quickly and cheaply replace the older M113s in service with the Syreene States Defense Force at the time, despite this, it is a quality system, and rather sturdy. The M87, like all M84 derivatives, features full NBC protection, including Air Conditioning standard, and is fully amphibious.

The M88 Infantry Fighting Vehicle:
Specifications:
Crew: 3+6
Dimensions:
Length: 7.85m
Width: 3.1m
Height: 2.7m
Ground Clearance: .4m
Main Weapon: 1x 30x173mm Autocannon. 600 Rounds. Provisions for ATGMs.
Secondary Weapons: 1x 12.7x99mm FN-Browning M2 HMG Co-axial with Main Gun, and One Pintle Mounted Machine Gun or Remote Weapons Station, added at buyer's request. If 2x 12.7x99mm FN-Browning M2 HMG, 3000 rounds can be carried.
Armor: 15 to 20mm of RHA with Kevlar/Nomex anti-spalling liner.
Weight: ~14.5 Tonnes (32,000lbs)
Powerplant: 1xKA D1206T Diesel Engine, producing 570hp.
Top Speed (On road): 120km/h (~75mph)
Top Speed (Offroad): 80km/h (~50mph)

The M88 is just as capable as the M84 and M87 are off-road and slightly faster than the M84 is on-road. The M84 family is highly compatible with many weapons systems, so it is not unusual to see a M88 equipped with ATGMs or SAMs in addition to it's normal armament. As with all derivatives of the M84, it is NBC protected and fully Amphibious, and does not even need any preparations for water crossing.

They're produced by Syreene Defense Works, and have served quite well.

here are just a few of the APC's used by the gwrachbyd military.

the T1 trojan APC
Image
light weight air portable APC with room for 15 passengers, plus up to 4 support crew (including driver, gunner, and command and control staff)
armed with a twin 30mm gattling cannon mounted in the forward turret and twin 100mm cannon in top mounted turret though the vehicle is capable of mounting a wide range of weapon systems ranging from anti personal, anti armour, anti aircraft and even siege weapons such as heavy mortars.
the vehicle also comes with a command post with radio and real time video link ups to troops, computer generated topography displays with troop IFF transponder and real time uplink to satellites and UAV allowing a commander to not only know the location of his own troops but also the lay of the land and locations of enemy personal as well as allowing teh commander to monitor the health and stress levels of troops and provide rapid communications

the gwrachbyd industries 8X8 ATV
Image
designed mainly for transport in low risk situations the GBI8X8 is capable of travelling on the most difficult terrain such as steep sand dunes. uneven rocky surfaces, swamps and deep snow. the vehicles hydraulic suspension legs allow it to remain above the surface of water up to 2.5m deep and is actively monitored via dedicated CPU allowing the vehicle to maintain optimum traction and stability at all times.
it's 7mx6m wheel base provides optimal stability and even weight distribution.
due to it's versatility it is sometimes upgraded with weapon mounts (usually anti infantry guns and AT missiles) and light armour to act as an infantry transport vehicle in low risk areas

the GBI pathfinder ATV
Image
Image
an expantion of the design concepts used in the 8X8 ATV the pathfinder is a rapid assault ATV designed for movement on rocky and hilly or swampy terrain that is inaccessible to standard wheeled and tracked vehicles. it is armed with a 30mm gattling on an under nose mount and 6 anti tank missiles. the vehicle is capable of raising up on it's "legs" to a heigh of just over 2m allowing it to fire over obstructions before dropping behind cover or to traverse deep water or excessively uneven terrain (rubble, large boulders ect)
the current service model is designed to seat 2 troops but plans are in the works for a 4 man version and a troop carrier version with cargo pod capable of holding 10 fully loaded troops

GBI light armoured car
Image
designed mainly for urban combat in low risk areas. the light armoured car is proof against small arms fire and capable of carrying up to 5 passengers. it's twin 30m auto cannon is compatible with a wide range of munitions allowing it to deal with light armoured threats, infantry and low flying aircraft.

GBI APC
Image
designed as a cheep alternative to the trojan the GBI APC is a rapid light armoured vehicle with the compacity to carry up to 20 troops but lacks the support systems provided by the trojan and is equipped with a single 75mm cannon for dealing with light armoured threats (with anti infantry munitions also available)

If I may suggest a few things.
1. Move all the weapons into the turret to the top of the vehicle, you will get a much greater arc of fire.
2. Lose the gatling canons and twin canons. They eat way too much ammunition and two full sized canons on a single vehicle will tend to ruin one another's aim anyway. With a normal autocanon and a normal canon + auto loader you can get much higher accuracy while keeping a reasonably high rate of fire and having much better ammunition economy. After all, you don't need 1000 rounds per minute to kill anything on the ground.

Silly waste of money.

Our/Feral Land's defense strategy relies on giving free pot and munchies any wouldbe invaders...they will get high, get silly, and forget why they came in the first place, and our sexy lifeguards/beach volly ball players will be able to round them up with any trouble at all.

Besides other than our plentiful pot-fields, excellent bakeries and cafes, and not to forget our gorgeous baskets we are a rather small out of the way island nation that is simply to stoned to interfer with anyone else.

P.S. may I suggest that you don't fly on Feral Air unless you're higher than the plan -- oops plane!
