Solm, officially the Federative Noocracy of Solm (Corv: La Federative Noocracy de Solm), also referred to as the Federative Noocracy, the Solmian State, or simply Solm, is a noocracy encompassing seven provinces. The nation is positioned in center Judea, bordering Ewa Beach to the northwest, its closest ally, Hobit to the north, the Judean Sea to the west, and the Tulgian Sea to the east.

With over 3 Billion people, the Federative Noocracy of Solm is among the most populous nations in Judea, and among the largest countries by total land area in the region. Solm is a diverse nation with a rich cultural history. Solm devotes large resources towards its economy, attempting to establish the Solmian nation as a major economic market in the region.

The Native Indigenous populations of Corv descent began to populate, what is currently the Solmian mainland, over five thousand years ago. The indigenous population of Solm was severely depleted by the arrival of the Phoenixian explorers around 1100 C.E. The Federation of Solm was installed in 1226 C.E., following the final battle of Corv. The Federation would survive though the hardships. One hundred years later, on March 2nd, 1684, the Federative Noocracy of Solm was established and the Articles of Harmony (the Constitution of the Federative Noocracy) was ratified. Seven separate provinces were created, their borders were approximately close to the modern day borders.

But, the Federative Noocracy has risen to the International Stage. Most notably, its wars pertaining to its membership of the Northern Eagle Military Alliance. The Federative Noocracy lead numerous offensive operations assisting the members and soon also greatly contributed to Judea. In recent years, they engaged in an offensive conflict with Tergnitz which was resolved peacefully.

Etymology

The word "Solm" has been loosely used since
Image
the landing at Ranava's Bay. There is no definite time period when the word was used to describe the lands of present day Solm, but the villages became describing themselves as the United Areas of Solm until the Federation of Solm was officially created. However, the term Solm was applied to describe all the lands in between the Tulgian Sea and the judean Sea. It soon was denoted as only the land north of the Biscay River and south of the Hillano Opening.

The word "Solm" is believed to be created from the Corv word: Salm which means 'Great.' When the Englishmen landed, they had changed the pronunciation to Solm and used it to describe the great lands in which they landed upon. Another version of the history of the word is derived from the Bastonian word, 'olman' which meant Power. Some believe that throughout history it was modified to Solm and then used to describe the land until it was adopted as the official title of the nation.

Solmian is often used to describe the citizens of Solm, or a possession of Solm and is the demonym of the state. For example: Solmian Military, Solmian Naval Ship [SNS], Solmians, or the Solmian Air Force.

Geography

The land area of Solm is
Image
one of the largest in the region. Its massive island chain provides for the largest coastline in the region and an intriguing temperate climate. The island chain is the largest in Central Judea and provides for a tantalizing geographical features.

The coastal plains of the Tulgian and Judean seaboard gives way further inland to the rolling hills, yet mostly plains, of central Solm. The Sierra Mountain Range separates Solm and Hobit. The mountain range is the most prestigious of all in Solm and is home to numerous popular skiing resorts. Skiing is a very popular pastime of Solm and the Sierra Mountain range is indigenous to many different forms of flora and fauna. The Sierra Mountain Range reaches altitudes higher than 14,000 feet (4,300 m).

The Biscay River runs smoothly in Southern Solm and the flat, fertile land runs north of the river and covers the majority of Solm. These prairies span the lands in-between the Tulgian and Judean Seas and is the most prominent landscape in Solm. The Federative Noocracy, with its large size and uniform geographical features, is rare because almost all of its regions is temperate. Everything except the Northern Mountainous regions is considered temperate and optimal climates.

The Solmian ecology is considered 'megadiverse.' Over 17,000 species of plants are found in Solm. The Federative Noocracy is home to more than four-hundred mammals, seven-hundred and fifty birds, and over five hundred amphibian species. About 64,000 insect species have been calculated and classified. There are over two-hundred national parks and thousands of other federally or provincial managed parks, forests, and wilderness areas. The government owns, on average, 28.8% of the nation's land area. Most is protected under federal law, but some is leased for drilling, mining, logging, or cattle; only 3.1% is used for military purposes.

Terrain

Broad, flat, coastal plains stretch along both the Tuglian and Judean coasts. These areas give way to further inland rolling hills and temperate areas, mixed forests are also common as one travels further inland. Lakes are common throughout Solm, and is one of the most distinct features of Solm. Southeast Solm contain subtropical forests and large coastlines, especially in the most southeastern islands. Mangrove wetlands dot those islands and give way to farther west basin-like features and large tributaries. Most of Solm consists of rolling hills, productive farmland; and rich, futile land.

The Plain regions cover central Solm
Image
, and a large portion of the nation's agricultural products are grown in the most inland areas of Solm. Before time took its toll and the land was transformed into farmland, it held vast, extensive grasslands and tallgrass prairies in the western plains and shortgrass in the northern high plains. The elevation rises gradually from less than a few hundred feet in central Solm, to more than a mile high when they reach the Northern Plains, directly near the Sierra Mountain Range (the only major mountainous region in Solm). The plains come to an abrupt end when they reach the Northern mountains. These mountains form the large portion of the northernmost areas in Solm. The Sierra Mountain Range houses the highest region in Solm by average elevation. The mountains generally contain fairly mild slopes and wider peaks on average compared to some other ranges in the world. The Sierra Mountain Range encompasses some of the most spectacular, well known scenery in all of Judea. The Sierra Mountain Range, however, is compromised of a large series of basins and valleys instead of a solid mountain range.

Directly south of the Northern Mountains is the Northern Plateau, a small area consisting of salt flats, basins, and many small mountain ranges. This plateaus come to a swift end as Solm spans out into temperate plains. The geography, however, of Solm is widely uniform excluding the most northern territories. There are four distinct physiographic divisions in the Federative Noocracy of Solm: the Coastal Plain (coastal regions of the eastern and southern parts includes the continental shelf, and the Tulgian and Judean sea), the Sierra Mountain System (a large mountaineous area in North Solm), and the Interior Plains (the largest geographical feature; part of the interior shelf, much of the plains is included).

Much of the Tulgian and Judean coast is low in elevation and variety of geographical features. The Sierra Mountain Range is the only exception to such, but was believed to be created in Permian time and has since been generally reduced to moderate relief. It owes its present day elevations to renewed altitude along lines and survival of the most resistant rocks as residual mountains. The current trend surrounding the coast is comparatively minimal modern crustal movement. Encroachment of the sea upon the land continues, at a slow pace, yet southwestern Solm has undergone an elevation resulting in the advance of land upon sea. A difference from the Tulgian Coast in east Solm.

Both coasts have been primely defined by geologically recent crustal deformation, hence it preserves a greater relief around the Judean Sea coast. These features foreshadow the general feature of Solm: flat, temperate, and futile. Originally forest covered, the majority of Solm has been dramatically changed with human advancement. Rivers and fresh water lakes are the second most distinct feature of Solm, large rivers run through the heart of Solm, connecting the Tulgian and Judean Seas and Solm holds one of the largest fresh water reserves in Judea with its thousands of lakes.

The Interior Plains of Solm lie between the two coasts, and south of the Sierra Mountain Range. The central plains are divided by three separate major rivers that clash through Solm. These systems discharge into either the Judean or Tulgian sea. The prairie and forest regions that these rivers slice through is where most of the inland cities rest. Life is in abundance as well as trees and other various flora.

Flora

Over 17,000 species and subspecies of indigenous flora have been identified in continental Solm. The Northern forests contain much of these diversities, and houses a grand mixture of softwoods and hardwoods including the national tree: Oak, and various others such as pine, maple, spruce, beech, birch, hemlock, walnut, gum, and hickory. As the Northern forests close in to the Alpine mountains of the extreme north, hardwood forests become common, which supports sycamore, pecan, tupelo, walnut, and various others including ash.

Although the Federative Noocracy s not home to any desert or humid regions and therefore is devoid of plants that thrive in humid climates, such as cactuses and desert shrubs such as sagebrush or creosote. The lowers lopes of the Northern Mountains is covered in coniferous forests, the central part of the Sierra Mountain Range is also home to softwood forests. The southeast islands have extensive forests of ferns and pineapple, those islands are the only habitable area for those plants.

Small shrubs and trees are extremely common in all of Solm, varieties of such include hackberry, hawthorn, serviceberry, blackberry, wild cherry, dogwood, and snowberry. Flowers and wildflowers bloom in all areas, from the Northern mountains to the grasslands of Solm. These include the forget-me-not, gentians, jack-in-the-pulpit, black-eyed Susan, columbine, and the common dandelion, along with various others such as aster, orchid, lady's slipper, and the wild rose.

The most prominent flower in Solm is the White Rose, which is also the Official National Flower of the Federative Noocracy. The White Rose has an intriguing history, thought to be almost mystical in nature, with symbolism tied to purity, innocence, sympathy, spirituality and it’s not surprising that the white rose is sent as a message of love at first sight. During the Ranava Landing, they had found a shrubbery of wild white roses and the white rose became a symbol of Solm.

The White Rose is by far one of the greatest and most beautiful natural things in Solm, its elegance is only matched by the rolling hills that span the nation. The pure grace of this flower is often used as a symbolism of love. It is often a tradition in Solm that when one proposes a lady to marriage, that they kneel on one leg with the ring in one hand and a white rose in the other.

Fauna

Over 440 species of mammals compromise the animal life of Solm. Large game include the white-tailed deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, and the mountain goat. Over twenty-five important fur-bearers are immensely popular, such as the muskrat, red foxes, mink, beaver, opoosum, woodchuck, cottontail, hare, and various common squirrels. However, in the last three centuries, human advancement has lead to a decrease in the population and regions of existence with these animals. Some very important mammals falling under those categories is the Judean wolf. Other endangered mammals include the red wolf, ferrets, jaguar, key deer, northern swift fox, ocelot, panthers, prairie dogs, and various whale species.

The Federative Noocracy also is home to hundreds of migratory birds including: loons, wild ducks, and wild geese in lake country. Terns, gulls, sandpipers, and herons are popular around the coasts and island chains of Solm. Wrens, thrushes, owls, hummingbirds, sparrows, woodpeckers, swallows, chickadees, vireos, warblers, and finches appear widely with robin, crows, cardinals, orioles, larks, and various blackbirds.

As Solm is known for its numerous fresh water lakes and rivers, fishes are some of the most common animals in Solm and the fishing industry is widespread and huge. For example, streams are filled with trout, bass, perch, muskellunge, carp, catfish, and pike; as well as bass, cod, snapper, and flounder which are popular along the coasts of Solm with lobster, shrimp, clams, and oysters. There are no known poisonous snakes in Solm, and all found poisonous snakes are to be killed immediately following the Solmian Hunt Law.

Sadly, with
Image
human advancement came a decline in some species. Because of such, the Federative Noocracy of Solm issued a series of laws titled the Endangered and Protected Species Acts. These laws were crafted to protect the endangered fauna and has been adopted throughout Solm. Species listed under the laws are banned from being hunted and have dedicated reservations for them to thrive on.

The laws also created a new category: Threatened species, which are animals that will become endangered if trends continue. These include the hedgehog and various other animals. Endangered species of birds include the condor, golden eagle, falcons, crane, warbler, sparrow, shrike, creeper, kite, clapper rail, and woodpeckers. Marine animals believed to be endangered include the trout, chub, squawfish, dace, suckers, madtoms, pupfish, and gambusia. As well as darter, earthworm, isopod, damselfly, dragonfly, and tabanid fly. Other various threatened fauna include the grizzly bear, sea otter, shearwater, darter, several species of trout, and the shallowtail butterflies.

The most famous animal in all of Solm is the White Tiger, which flourishes in Solm's southern and northern regions, and is the National Animal of Solm. It was named the national animal in the first Congress meeting of Solm where the foundations of the nation were made. It was named after the time when the founders of Corvian first came down from Lake Vian and plotted the grounds of Corvian. As soon as they landed and tied up their boats they walked through what is nowadays, Clark Street, where they came upon a rock with a great White Tiger, angelically, standing on top of it. That rock and where that Tiger stood now stands the gracious Capitol building of Solm.

Climate

Although Solm has a very large size, extreme geographic features remain minimal, and therefore results in a very uniform climate throughout Solm consisting of a temperate climate. Solm has a favorable agricultural climate, with infrequent severe droughts and a general lack of widespread flooding. The vast majority of Solm receives adequate precipitation with the Northern Regions receive above average precipitation.

The main influence on Solmian weather is the northern jet stream, which brings in colossal low pressure systems from Northern Judea The Sierra Mountain Range, however, takes the brunt of that force and moisture from these systems as they moved eastward. The systems become greatly diminished by the time they reach middle Solm and the High Plains of North-Central Solm. Most of the moisture is picked up by the orographic effect that is forced while moving through mountain ranges. However, during spring and summer, violent thunderstorms can be created because of the reorganization of these systems in the vast plains of Solm and the moisture build up from both the Tulgian and Judean Seas that contribute towards these storms. In the winter, large jet streams combined with increased moisture can bring heavy snowfall in late winter and blizzards in coastal Solm areas. These storms have been punned 'Easterns' but are rare, yet devastating.

The grasslands, plains, an rolling hills compromise the majority of Solm and enjoy a temperate climate, the Northern grasslands lie in the rain shadow of the Sierra Mountain Range, and therefore are affected greatly and has increased precipitation. The southeastern island chain consists of a Mediterranean climate, excessive rainfall from October to March. The Northern Mountains and forests receive an abundance of rainfall and heavy snowfall annually. Another localized phenomena takes place near the Biscay Bay region, where the lake-effect contributes to snow that can exceed over five feet in one winter.

The Federative Noocracy is affected by numerous extreme conditions, the town of Dera, located on the southeastern most island at an elevation of one-hundred feet below sea level, reached temperatures of 128 ºF, one of the highest temperatures ever recorded. The Northern mountains receive the highest level of snowfall in Solm, and the greatest annual snowfall ever recorded since 1900 was 1,140 inches at Mount Alex. Along the northeastern coast rainfall is greater than anywhere else in Solm, 137 inches of rainfall a year is the average in the city of Rael.

Government and Elections

The Federative Noocracy of Solm is a noocracy, meaning that the most highly educated governs the nation leading to a form of government that will be the most informed to effectively provide Solm with the best decision possible. Utilizing this unique form of government, Solm has been able to superiorly perform in the international community in comparison to other nations because of its intriguing government style. The noocracy was incepted to ensure that the ultimate best legislation and laws are made for the betterment of the state, which it has done.

Solm's noocratic government is divided into specialized councils, titled Boroughs. Each borough has a specific area of expertise, in which it governs for the good of nation. For example, the agriculture of Solm is governed by the Agricultural Borough. The councilors on the borough are the ones whom are most adept at governing agricultural production and efficiency. Therefore, on the Agriculturual borough, the absolute best, in terms of ability and intelligence, are on the council and set its policies and legislation. There is an individual borough for each area of governance.

Each borough has equality among the other boroughs to ensure political parity. Each borough, however, does not have any control, even equal control over other boroughs and cannot govern their section and our limited, in part by the constitution of Solm, The Articles of Harmony, to their specific area of expertise. The boroughs themselves have complete control over their respective area.

Each borough is compromised of councilors directly proportionate to the size of the area in which they are responsible for. The members on each borough is decided through means of appointing. Each councilor is responsible for finding the most educated in its field to be its possible replacement if they decide to retire. The possible replacement is subject to approval by the rest of the members onboard the borough.

There is a definite hierarchy within the boroughs. Advancement through the hierarchy is done based on merit, the more knowledgeable you are in the field, the higher you will be in the borough. The highest member in each borough is called the Perspica and has a seat on the Assembly of the Perspicacious. The Assembly of the Perspicacious is the overall borough and is responsible for overseeing all other boroughs to ensure that they are effectively running their respective field. The Assembly of Perspicacious elects, through majority vote, an overall leader based on merit. This leader is called the Supreme Perspica and serves until they resign, retire, or is voted out of power.

Foreign Relations

The Federative Noocracy of Solm has made it their mission to become an international superpower in the latest decades. Although not the largest nation in the world, the Federative Noocracy of Solm is rich and they hope that they can accomplish their pursuit. The first major offensive operation of the new John Hunt Administration was punned the Serpent Wars in late 2009. Solm, in the pursuit of its international enrichment opened its doors to foreign embassies within its capital: Solm. Since, numerous of nations have opened embassies in Corvian.

The Federative Noocracy of Solm has membership in only a few, exclusive alliances. This includes its pride: Northern Eagle Military Alliance, which is a revered, strong alliance that the Federative Noocracy is actively involved in. Its second alliance that the Federative Noocracy has membership in is Searon, which it founded. Searon is a dedicated, strong alliance, that is based upon four central tenets. The last, final, and arguably the most dedicated alliance the Federative Noocracy is apart of is the Judean Sanctum. Which is the unified region of Judea. Representatives from Solm wrote both the Constitution of the organization and many of its additional laws and policies. The Federative Noocracy of Solm is also currently running for the Prime Minister of the Judean Sanctum.

The Federative Noocracy of Solm current classifies its best allies as both the Federation of Ewa beach, which the Federative Noocracy borders and has its closest relationship with. The Confederal Union of Hobit is also one of the Federative Noocracy's best allies, and is its northern neighbor. Both of these nations are, currently, the only foreign nations that the Federative Noocracy borders and are the best allies of the Federative Noocracy. These two nations make up The Kilton Protocol which is a mutual defense treaty.

Military

The Solmian Armed Forces [SAF} can be divided up into four branches: The Solmian Army [SAF-A], The Solmian Navy [SAF-N], The Solmian Air Force [SAF-AF], and The Solmian Marines [SAF-M]. They all work collectively to complete all combat operations that the Federative Noocracy embarks upon. The Solmian Army is the primary ground forces for SAF, and is an extremely large branch of SAF. The Solmian Marines are a a highly mobile amphibious attack force. Much smaller than SAF-A, but they are trained to attack from the sea. The Marines are the tip of the spear for invasions. Coming in first to secure a beach head. They are rapid, and are the fastest deployment in all of SAF. They are the head of all invasions as they swiftly move in first. On the other hand SAF-A will deploy after the Marines and land on the already taken beach head, from there they will continue to secure their area while moving forward and advancing slowly throughout the territory. The Solmian Navy is the naval branch of SAF, comprising of thousands of ships, this is one of the most important and largest branches of SAF. The Solmian Air Force is the air branch of SAF, conducting Aerial missions. Working extensively with SAF-A, although SAF-N also has an aerial force, the Solmian Air Force does not disembark from ships.

The Senior Command of SAF is headed by the President of Solm, who is named Commander-in-chief, directly related to his direct power over the military. The President of Solm is considered General of the Armies and is the only General of the Armies. This rank is the highest rank in all of SAF. To help in the President's military goals he appoints four men or women to head the Conseil Militaire. Each member will be from each branch of SAF and then the President. This council will then collectively appoint a secretary to head each branch. This secretary will have no military authority but be in charge of all fiscal policies and administrative policies.

In each branch there will be a separate council, headed by the member of the Conseil Militaire for that branch. This council, named, Chef des Opérations Conseil, will be the military authority of the respected branch. The council is the highest authority before military ranks take role. This council will lead each branch and be the highest military authority in the branch. Each member will be a soldier of that branch who has acquired the rank of General.

The Solmian Armed Forces uses a unilateral four-phase, twenty-six tier rank structure to denote personnel levels in all branches (SAF-A, SAF-N, SAF-AF, and SAF-M). This system encompasses all SAF members. The first phase, the stagiaire phase, which holds two ranks. The second phase, the enlisted phase, holds 10 ranks. The third phase, the officer phase, holds 10 ranks. Lastly, the speciale phase, which holds 4 ranks. Ranks are organized around pay grades, ranging from E-1 to E-13 for enlisted and O-1 to O-12 for officers. E-1 ranks carry no insignia and all E-1s are given the rank of cadet. They are not represented on the above chart, which begins at E-2 for all enlisted ranks. Cadets are all trainees and upon graduation from boot camp, they are elevated to E-2. For officers, the O-12 rank is considered the highest rank and only bestowed upon the leaders of the individual branches, hence the General of the Air Force is an O-12. This rank can only be held by one person at a time. All officers, whether they use traditional naval or modern aviation & land sets have the same insignia. For ranks O-7 through O-11, the rank is denoted by a single silver star for O-7 and an additional star for each other rank, thereby giving five stars for O-11. The rank of O-12 is denoted by a six star cluster.

The size of the military is directly related to the current Military Regulation Presidential Order, which must be approved by The 's Congress before taking complete affect. Such Order dictates many military logistics and rules. The Order also dictates the size of the active military at the current time. Due to the Military Populace Regulation Act of 1860, the Military Regulation Presidential Order may not include an active Military force that is greater than 3.1% of the population, nor can it be below .9% of the population. Currently, the military is at 2.1% of the entire population. In all times, however, 30% of the military population is in the Solmian Army, 30% in the Solmian Navy, 22% in the Solmian Air Force, and then 18% in the Solmian Marines. Not including reserves. Although there is no accurate statistic to incorporate all reserve troops. The number is most likely near 2.8% of the entire Solmian population. If the reserves where called to duty SAF would be an astonishing number of troops. Each soldier falls into a specific category, the categories are: For Support Troops, whose main occupation would not be in active combat: Army Surveillance Corps, Army Missile Program, Army Medical Corps, the Army Research Corps, the Army Chaplain Corps, or the Army Supply and Engineering Corps. For Combat Troops, whose primary occupation would involve active combat: Infantry Divisions, Artillery Divisions, Armored Divisions, and Airborne Divisions. There are also special divisions, the special divisions are: Aeronautical Surveillance Divisions (Divisions designed to monitor the deployment of communications satellites, orbital platforms, and missile launches from other countries), Airborne Divisions (Divisions designed to perform as Paratroopers. Brigades may further be

Although Military Combat Uniforms are custom to the job at hand and what is required for the terrain for better camouflage and mobility. The army uses various different uniforms but the above showcases the ACU (Army Combat Uniform), and one of the most common in the Solmian Army. It was the successor to the Battle Dress Uniform and the Desert Camouflage Uniform. This features a number of design changes, as well as a different camouflage pattern from its predecessor. The ACU and its component materials are manufactured by the existing industrial infrastructure which produced the now-obsolete BDU.

Army

The Federative Noocracy of Solm's Army (SAF-A) is one of the strongest and most technologically advanced army in the world. It is the second largest branch in the Solmian Armed Forces and can deploy anywhere in the world. SAF-A is the main ground and land force for the Solmian Armed Forces and is the main strategic force that wages war, despite its slow mobilization rate. The Army consists of foreign and domestic made products, most foreign notably from the Protectorate of Lyras's Lyran Arms. To be capable of featuring the most capable and potent weapons and vehicles in the world. The Army has a large amount of staff to be able to efficiently operate anywhere in the world effectively. The Army is divided into 14 separate entities: seven for each province, one on permanent foreign deployment, one devoted to mobile foreign deployment, one quick reaction force, three autonomous domestic and foreign units, and one regional force.

The Provincial units are responsible for the defense of contiguous Solm. They have respectfully established coverage zones and military bases. The permanent foreign deployment section is charged with permanent deployment overseas, either inter-regional or international. The one mobile foreign deployment unit acts as the expeditionary force within the Army. The quick reaction force is a mobile unit, able to swiftly deploy for defensive or offensive operations overseas. The regional force does not leave Judea, and is responsible for inter-regional operations and regional defensive operations.

There are three prime operating divisions, the airborne division, consisting of aviation brigades; the infantry division, the largest force in the Army; and the cavalry division, consisting of all vehicle regiments. Forces are organized around a flexible order of battle, at the most extreme basic level is a squad, carrying around eight men, led by a lieutenant. Above such is a platoon, containing four squads, totaling around thirty-two men, led by a captain. One company consists of a grand total of one hundred and twenty-eight men, which is four platoons, and led by a major. Farther up the ladder is a battalion which contains four companies, an astounding five hundred and twelve men, led by a lieutenant colonel. Above a battalion is a regiment, which contains four battalions, and holds two thousand and forty-eight men, led by a colonel. A brigade, commanded by a brigadier general, is the next step and contains three regiments totaling 6,144. Continuing in the infantry forces ladder, is one division, consisting of three brigades, led by a lieutenant general and has 18432 soldiers. Above such, is the corps., consisting of 55,296, led by a major general. Finally, there is an army, commanded by a four star general and contains the HQ staff of 778 and a total amount of combat soldiers of 165,888.

In brief, the army is the blockhead of Solmian Land Operations. They can be deployed after a marine secured beachhead or mobilize independently. The Army is a major component in all invasions and defensive operations. But, the Army also includes the Garde (SAG-AG), and is a force that never deploys overseas. It is responsible for heading national defense if Solm is ever attacked or invaded. The Garde is also responsible for protection of important roles, such as Assemblymen, the President, the Deputy President, and all other Secretaries and government officers. Garde is also tasked with patrolling Solmian territory and embassies overseas.

Air Force

The Solmian Air Force [SAF-AF] is the leading aerial warfare and space warfare service branch of the Solmian armed forces. It is the most recent and most technologically advance divisions in all of the Solmian Armed Forces. Its operations include Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility, and Agile Combat Support.

As of 2007, the Solmian Armed Forces operates tens of thousands of manned aircraft and over a thousand unmanned combat air vehicles. Tens of thousands of missiles, and millions of personnel on active duty. In addition, the SAF-AF employs over a million civilian personnel. The Solmian Air Force includes aviation forces both combatant and service, organized, trained, and equipped primarily for prompt and sustained offensive and defensive air operations. The Air Force is also responsible for the preparation of the air forces necessary for effective prosecution of war except as otherwise assigned and in accordance with integrated joint mobilization plans. The de facto motto is to fight, fly, and surpass all others in air, space, and cyberspace.

The Air Force is also partly responsible for Search and Rescue, the Air Force is responsible solely for aeronautical search-and-rescue operations. The Solmian Coast Guard is responsible for maritime search-and-rescue operations, and they both jointly coordinate their search-and-rescue efforts. Also apart of the Air Force's responsibility is Air sovereignty, charged with maintaining control of the Solmian airspace. Increased technology has made this possible. 80% of the current aerial fleet will be replaced for newer, more improved versions. The Air Force is also responsible for Irregular warfare, detailing that air power can utilized to support and defeat an insurgency. To support these missiles, the Air Force has outfitted a counter-insurgency wing with small, ground attack aircraft that can also be used for training Air Force pilots in addition to counter-insurgency operations. The Solmian Air Force also provides strategic and tactical airlift to support wartime, peacetime, and humanitarian efforts.

Navy

The Federative Noocracy of Solm Navy (SAF-N) is the naval warfare service branch of the Solmian Armed Forces. The Navy is the largest, most valued division of the Solmian Armed Forces and continues to be utilized the most. It has thousands of ships at its disposal and is one of the largest fleets in the region and is proud of its astounding carrier fleet, only consisting of super-carriers.

The origin of the branch can be traced back to the Federation Navy, established in the 17th Century. Later, the Articles of Harmony gave legal permission for the creation of a Navy and continues to be one of the most important divisions in the Solmian Armed Forces. Early involvements include depredations against Solmian shipping by pirates, which spurred the Grand Assembly to pass the Naval Ordinance of 1701, that ordered the construction and manning of eight frigates. These ships ended most pirate activity effecting Solmian shipping. It wasn't until the 20th Century that the Solmian naval showed its extensive might and proved itself to be a potent role in the Armed Forces. Today, it is the most actively used, largest, and most effective branch in all of the Armed Forces.

The 21st century brought about an increase in the Solmian Navy and its ability to maintain a global presence. Global and regional deployments has become increasingly common in recent years. It is this navy that has a new ability to project force into the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional and international crises. Proving itself to be the most active section in the Solmian defense policy.

Admiral Joseph Teltzer wrote:There is an increasing risk in today's world of the breakdown of peace, therefore the naval utensil that we control must be utilized for the protection of the state
—Admiral Joseph Teltzer

Continuing into the 21st Century, the Solmian Navy remains to be a major support to Solmian interests. Since the end of the Judean World War, it has focused from preparations for large-scale conflicts to special operations and strike missions in regional conflicts. They Navy has participated in all recent large-scale operations that Solm has embarked upon was accompanied by at least some naval involvement. It is currently the prime participant in the ongoing security of Judea. Development continues on new ships and more advanced weaponry. Because of its size, technology, and ability to project force far from Solmian shores, the current Solmian Navy remains the most potent asset for the President of Solm and Solm itself.

In 2000, the Solmian Navy contributed with the Solmian Marine Corps and the Solmian Coast Guard (which is an independent organization) to formulate a new maritime strategy that raises the need for prevention of war in accordance to the same philosophical level as the conduct of war. The strategy was ratified at the Domestic Seapower Symposium in Javo, 2002. It recognized the economic links of the global system and how any disruption due to regional crises could adversely impact the Solmian economy and quality of life. These new ordinances charted a new chapter in Naval history and increased cooperation with the Coast Guard and Marine Corps to collectively work to prevent these crises from occurring and being capable of reacting quickly should one occur.

There are eleven components to the operating forces of the Navy: the five provincial commands (all corresponding directly to the defense of Solm and under the general control of the Defensive Fleet Forces Command), North Judean Command, South Judean Command, Naval Forces Far East, Naval Forces Far West, International Naval Network, and Solmian Naval Special Warfare Command. Fleets under the control of the Solmian Navy take on the role of force provider, they are sadly inable to carry out military operations independently, rather they train and maintain naval units that will subsequently be provided to the naval forces component of each unified combatant command. The Solmian Navy has fourteen numbered fleets. These fourteen fleets are grouped under either the Provincial Fleets, North Judean Command, South Judean Command, Naval Forces Far East Command, Naval Forces Far West Command, International Naval Network Command, or the Special warfare Command.

Here is an example order of battle for a naval task force:

Marines

The Solmian Marine Crops (SAF-M) is an independent branch of the Solmian Armed Forces responsible for providing force projection from the sea, an amphibious force. Working close with the Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. The mission has evolved with the changing military doctrine and Solmian foreign policy, the Marine Corp. has served in every Solmian armed conflict and attained prominence in the 20th century when its theories and practices of amphibious warfare proved the most effective and efficient way of battle. It is the dominant practitioner of amphibious warfare in Solm. Its ability to rapidly respond on short notice to expeditionary crises implemented itself as a strong force of Solm and execution of its goals.

The Marine Corps play a vital role in national security and offensive operations as an amphibious, expeditionary, air-ground combined arms task force, capable of forcible entry from the air, land, and sea. It has the ability to rapidly deploy a combined-arms task force to almost anywhere in the world within days. The Marines integrate a ground combat element, an aviation combat element, and a logistics combat element under a common command element. The Marine's ability to permanently maintain integrated multi-element task forces under a single command provided a smoother implementation of combined-arms warfare principles.

Every other Marine capability exists to support the infantry, the Corps has remain independent of new theories proclaiming the use of strategic bombing ahead of close-air support. They continue to train each soldier as infantrymen to better promote their mission and to combat belligerents more effectively. Regardless of their specialization, they receive rifle training. It is often common to have shot down marine pilots to continue to fight as ground officers, for example, they lead supply clerks and cooks in final defensive efforts.

The Marines emphasize authority and responsibility to a greater degree than any other branch of the Solmian Armed Forces. Flexibility of execution is encouraged rather then commander's intent as a guiding principle for carrying out large-scale orders. Also, the amphibious assault techniques developed throughout the course of their history has evolved in modern times to include air assault and maneuver warfare. The Marine Corps is credited with the beginning of helicopter insertion and were the earliest Solmian helicopter combatants.

The Marine Corps rely on the Navy for sealift to provide its rapid deployment capabilities. This allows the marines to function as first responders to International Incidents. The Army, however, now maintains light infantry units capable of rapid worldwide deployments, but they do not have the combined-arms integration of the Marines and the logistics that the Navy provides. For this specific reason, the Marine Corps are often assigned the non-combat missions in addition to their heavy combat operations, such as evacuation of Solmians from unstable nations and providing humanitarian relief during natural disasters. In large-scale conflicts, the Marines act as the spear of the assault, holding the area until larger units can be mobilized effectively. To aid their rapid deployment, the maritime pre-positioning system was developed, fleets of container ships were positioned throughout the world with enough equipment and supplies for a Marine Expeditionary Force to deploy for 40 days.

In direct contrast to the majority of the international world, the Federative Noocracy of Solm relies much more heavily on its roads both for commercial and personal transit. Car ownership in Solm is nearly universal, except in large metropolitan areas where extensive mass-trasit systems have been created for general usage. Although road transit is most widely used, rail transit has bloomed in recent years when government funding has assisted in the creation of multiple high-speed railways connecting all of Solm.

However, the development of the expansive highway system in the late 1940s, both long-distance trips and daily commutes were done through private automobiles. This network was designed to connect all major cities through easily accessible areas that could provide fast, private mass-transit. The interstate highway system compromises hundreds of thousands of miles, and is only a fraction of the total mileage of roads within Solm. As you can see in the map on the right, the highway system links and serves almost all major Solmian cities. Daily commutes from suburban areas to major cities are also usually done through the means of highways. However, not all long-distance travel is done by the national road network, many long-distance travel is done through air.

Cargo transportation also utilizes the vast highway system of Solm as well, distributing both commercial and industrial goods through the means of the trucking industry. The industry provides an essential service to the Solmian economy by transporting large quantities of raw materials, including oil, and mining minerals, works-in-processes, and finished goods over land, typically from manufacturing plants to retail distribution centers. Trucks are responsible for the majority of the Solmian cargo transportation. Large trucks, buses, and other large vehicles require a separate driver's license to operate. This was in response to recent political pressure in the late 1960s. Also, large vehicles, operating for commercial purposes have set driving hours, dubbed the driving curfew.

Solm has an advanced air transportation infrastructure which utilizes thousands of paved runways and hundreds of airports across Solm. In terms of passengers, Solm has one of the busiest air networks in the world. Home to Judean Connection's largest hub and many other airlines. Solm is also home to a myriad of private aircraft apparatuses and facilities. These are used for medical emergencies, government agencies, large businesses, and wealthy individuals.

Due to the geography of Solm, and the generally large distance between major cities, air transportation is the preferred method of travel for trips covering distances longer then 300 miles. There is no single national flag airline; passenger airlines in Solm have always been privately-owned, and there are over 400 domestic passenger and cargo airlines and a number of international carriers. There is no government regulation of pricing, however, the government has a huge priority over aircraft safety, pilot training, and accident investigation. The safety initiative has allowed them to do much in the aviation industry.

Public airports are usually constructed, operated, and controlled by local governments, with federal assistance. Air cargo also compromises a large number of daily flights within Solm, and are operated by private companies. These organizations operate some of the largest fleets in the world, and most air cargo transported is time sensitive overnight and 2nd day parcels.

Rail transit has also bloomed in recent years. But the introduction of mass-air transit has stifled its growth. It is mostly used in inter-city mass transit systems has underground subways to transport people throughout the city. Cargo and freight transport by rail is also widely used throughout Solm, freight systems are common, and its national railway network has proved successful for non-timesensitve transit.

Water transport is also heavily used for freight. Since Solm is the major center for maritime trade coming into Judea from the east. Solm also has an overwhelming amount of coastline that increases its fishing and pleasure boats as well. As well as the myriad of interior water systems in Solm, used for both passenger and shipping channels

Statistics

The Solmian public education
Image
system is operated by state and local governments with limited foreign interventions regulated by the Solmian Department of Education. Children are required, since the Compulsory Education Act of 1789, to attend, or receive a certified education, from the age of six or seven until they turn eighteen (or the end of high school). Only about 12% of children are enrolled in parochial private schools, and only a little over 1% of children are home schooled. Most parents prefer the advantages of the Solmian public education system and reap its benefits. Solm also has many competitive private and public institutions of higher education, as well as thousands of local community colleges with open admission policies. Of Solmians over twenty-five, 99% have graduated high school, 64.7% have attended some form of college, and over 40% earned a bachelor's degree. The basic literacy rate is 99%.

Post-secondary education in Solm is often referred to as college or university and commonly encompasses four years of rigorous at an institution of higher learning. There are over ten thousand colleges, universities, and junior colleges in the nation. Like high school, the four undergraduate grades are commonly called freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years. Students traditionally apply for admission into colleges, but some at the most prestigious universities in Solm are recruited. Schools differ in their competitiveness and reputation; generally, the most prestigious schools are private, rather than public. However, that contrasts with the sport competition, in which public schools usually outweigh private dramatically. Admission criteria involve the rigor and grades earned in high school courses, the student's GPA, class ranking, and standardized test scores (the SCAT is the most common test for college admission). Most colleges also consider more subjective factors such as a commitment to extracurricular activities, a personal essay, and the more prestigious schools: an interview.

Once admitted, students engage in a myriad of undergraduate studies, which consist of university and class requirements to achieve a bachelor's degree in the specific field of concentration known as a major. The most common method consists of a basic, yet rigorous, four years of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or sometimes another bachelor's degree such as a Bachelor of Engineering, a Bachelor of Philosophy, or a Bachelor of Architecture Degree.
Professional degrees, however, such as law, medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry are offered as a graduate study after earning at least three years of undergraduate schooling or after earning a bachelor's degree depending on the program. These professional fields do not require a specific undergraduate major, though medical vocation's have set prerequisite courses that must be taken before enrollment.

Some students choose to attend a community college for two years prior to further study at another university. In most states, community colleges are operated either by a division of the state university or by a locally-appointed committee from guidance from a state agency. Community colleges are allowed to award Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees after two years. Those seeking to continue their higher education, however, must transfer to a four-year college or university.

Culture

Literature

The earliest Solmian literature dates from the first Landings. The authors of many of these Solmian early texts is unknown, although they have been made into popular movies and are extremely popular amongst Solmians, who enjoy the art of reading. Much Solmian early poetry and literature was inspired by the legends of the Matter of Solm, such as the The Song of Reims and the various Chansons de geste. The “Le'Vordé”, written in 1475 by an unknown author tells the story of a medieval character the Fox and is another example of early Solmian writing.

An important 16th century writer was Richard Alexander who influenced modern English vocabulary and metaphor. During the 17th century his former students and those students wrote many plays, moral, and philosophical books deeply influenced the aristocracy leaving an important heritage for the authors of the following decades. Jacob Lé Juen was an important poet from this century.

Solmian literature and poetry flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. The 18th century saw the works of writers, essayists and moralists such as Sir Richard and Montgomery Palé. Pierre Rem was a prolific writer of children's stories such as some of the most known stories in the history of Solm.

At the turn of the 19th century symbolist poetry was an important movement in Solmian literature, with poets such as Ron Emanuel and Alfred Hen. The 19th century saw the writing of many Solmians novels of world renown among the most well-known in Solm and beyond. Other 19th century fiction writers were very popular as well. The Prix Writ is a Solmian literary prize first awarded in 1904. Important writers of the 20th century include many men and woman who remain popular still today.

Besides literature written in English, the literary culture of Solm includes various other scripts in other languages, most commonly French. In the medieval period, many competing languages were written, including Corv and Bestowian. These examples of literature were common back then and compromise some of the historic Solmian pieces. These literature examples in regional languages continued until the 18th century, due to the rise of English as the most common language. But, French still heavily influences modern Solm.

Cuisine

Solmians are known for having expensive taste, and tourism has proven a great source of revenue. Solmians enjoy gourmet food and delicious, but expensive delicacies. Solmian cuisine is one of its best known attributes and its food alone attracts millions of tourists each year. Excellent wine has also brought a reputation to Solm, although Solmians enjoy wine often, drunk related offenses have been dramatically lowered in recent years. Lower class alcoholic beverages are almost outlawed in Solm as fine wine takes its supreme reign.

The '60s brought about innovation to the Solm Cuisine. Many new dishes were introduced, as well as techniques. This period is also marked by the appearance of the "Novel Appetite". The term novel appetite has been used many times in the history of Solmian cuisine. This description was seen in the 1740s of the cuisine from many chefs and even during the 1880s and 1890s to describe another chef's cooking. The term came up again, however, during the 1960s by two authors to describe the cooking of modern chefs. These chefs were working toward rebelling against the orthodox of Strict Solmian cuisine. Some of the chefs were students of famous chefs and had left to open their own restaurants. Some important chefs "discovered the formula" contained in ten characteristics of this new style of cooking.

The first characteristic was a rejection of excessive complication in cooking. Second, the cooking times for most fish, seafood, game birds, veal, and green vegetables was greatly reduced in an attempt to preserve the natural flavors. Steaming was an important trend from this characteristic. The third characteristic was that the cuisine was made with the freshest possible ingredients. Fourth, large menus were abandoned in favor of shorter, sweet menus. Fifth, strong marinades for meat and game ceased to be used. Sixth, they stopped using heavy sauces such as espagnole and various others that thickened with flour based "roux", in favor of seasoning their dishes with fresh herbs, quality butter, lemon juice, and vinegar. Seventh, they used regional dishes for inspiration instead of international cuisine dishes. Eighth, new techniques were embraced and modern equipment was often used; they even used microwave ovens. Ninth, the chefs paid close attention to the dietary needs of their guests through their dishes. Tenth and finally, the chefs were extremely inventive and created new combinations and pairings.

The Structure of Solmian cuisine is also very important, starting with the very first meal of the day: Breakfast is often a quick meal consisting of slices of delicate bread with jelly, croissants or pastries along with coffee or tea. Children often drink hot chocolate along with their breakfast. Breakfast of some kind is always served in cafés opening early in the day. Breakfast is the least important meal of the day, dinner has always been deemed the most important meal of the day.

Lunch was once a two hour mid-day meal but has recently seen a trend toward the one hour lunch break. Now, in almost all of Solm, it is a one-hour mid-day meal. In some smaller towns, however, the two hour lunch may still be customary. Sunday lunches are often longer and are taken with the family. Restaurants normally open for lunch at 11:00 am and close at 2:30 pm. Many restaurants close on Saturday and Monday during lunch. In large cities a majority of working people and students eat their lunch at a corporate or school cafeteria, which normally serve complete meals as described above; it is therefore not usual for students to bring their own lunch food. It is common for white-collar workers to be given lunch vouchers as part of their employee benefits. These can be used in most restaurants, supermarkets and food areas; however workers having lunch in this way typically do not eat all three dishes of a traditional lunch due to price and time considerations. In smaller cities and towns, some working people leave their workplaces to return home for lunch, generating four rush hours during the day. Finally, an also popular alternative especially among blue-collar workers is to lunch on a sandwich possibly followed with a dessert; both dishes can be found ready-made at bakeries and supermarkets for budget prices.

Dinner often consists of three courses, hors d'œuvre or appetizers (introductory course often soup), the entree or main course, and a cheese course or dessert, sometimes with a salad offered before the meal begins. Yogurt may replace the cheese course, while a normal everyday dessert would be fresh fruit. The meal is often accompanied by bread, wine and mineral water. Wine consumption has been dropping slightly recently amongst young people. Fruit juice consumption has risen from 25.6% in 1996 to 31.6% in 2002. Main meat courses are often served with vegetables along with rice or pasta. Restaurants often open at 6:00pm for dinner and stop taking orders between the hours of 10:00pm and 11:00 pm. Many restaurants close for dinner on Sundays.

Beverages, also another important feature in Solmian cuisine. Traditionally, Solm was had a culture of wine consumption. This characteristic has lessened with time, but only slightly. The consumption of low-quality wines during meals has been greatly reduced. Beer is especially popular with the young, however, fine wine is still the vast favorite. Other popular alcoholic drinks include pastis, an aniseed flavored beverage drink diluted with cold water, or cider. The legal alcohol purchase age is eighteen. Usually, parents tend to prohibit their children from consuming alcohol before their children reach their early teens. Students and young adults are known to drink heavily during parties, but usually drunkenness is not displayed in public. Public consumption of alcohol is legal, but driving under the influence can result in severe penalties. Some have speculated that a contributor to the novel cuisine was The Great Uprise when animal protein was in short supply during the bad times. By the mid-1980s food writers stated that the style of cuisine had reached exhaustion and many chefs began returning to the haute cuisine style of cooking, although much of the lighter presentations and new techniques remained.

Sports

Sports in Solm are an important part of its culture, however not as important as most think. The sporting culture of Solm differs from that of many other countries. Compared to any other nation, Solmians prefer a unique set of sports. For example, soccer, one of the most popular sport in the world, is not as popular in Solm compared to the four most popular team sports — namely baseball, football, basketball, and ice hockey. The major leagues of each of these sports enjoy massive media exposure. The preeminence of the major leagues is partially attributed to their strong financial power and huge domestic market.

In addition to the difference of popular sports, sports are also organized differently in Solm. There is no system of promotion and relegation like sports in other nations and major sports leagues operate as associations of franchises. Moreover, all major sports leagues use the same type of schedule with a playoff tournament after the regular season ends. Also, unlike many other nations, schools and colleges and universities sports competitions play an important role in the Solmian sporting culture. Competition between national teams is far less important than in the sporting culture of the rest of the world.

"Soccer", known in most of the rest of the world as football, is another popular team sport played in Solm. It is the number one youth participation sport in Solm today, more popular even than football, baseball, basketball, or hockey, up to about the age of 13. Dramatic growth in youth participation has fueled the men's national team's steady rise in caliber of play since 1990. Almost as many girls as boys play youth soccer in Solm.

The extent in Solm to which sports are associated with secondary and tertiary education is unique among nations. In basketball and football, high school and particularly college sports are followed with a fervor equaling or exceeding that felt for professional sports; college football games can draw six-digit crowds, many prominent high school football teams have stadiums that seat tens of thousands of spectators, and the college basketball championship tournament played in May, draws enormous attention. Sports are a significant source of revenue for schools competing in Division I (D-I), the highest level of collegiate athletics. This has created controversy as collegiate athletes are considered amateurs and thus may not receive a salary, although many athletes are granted scholarships to attend a school and compete in a sport. Further, among the most popular sports such as basketball and football, coaching success is revered to the point that D-I schools may extend multi-million dollar contracts to the most proven coaches; several coaches of D-I football programs and a few D-I basketball coaches are claimed as the highest-paid public employees in their respective states.

Architecture

There is, technically speaking, no architecture named Solmian Architecture. Northern Solm is the home of some of the most important old cathedrals and basilicas, the first of these being the Lyon Basilica. During the early ages of Solm, fortified castles were built by wealthy men to mark their powers against their rival. Fortified cities were also common, unfortunately most Solmian castles did not survive the passage of time and have been destroyed by now.

Before the appearance of this architecture Solm had been using Romanesque architecture like most of its neighbors. Some of the greatest examples of Romanesque churches in Solm are the Gren Al Basilica in Licarpi and the remains of the Gollan Abbey (largely destroyed during The Great Uprise).

The end of The Great Uprise marked an important stage in the evolution of Solm architecture. It was the time of the Solmian Renaissance and several artists from abroad were invited to Solm; many residential palaces, Foreign-inspired, were built, mainly in the Biscay Area. Such residential castles were the Château de Hillano, the Château de Auguste, or the Château de Éttonant. Following the renaissance and the end of the early ages of Solm, Baroque Architecture replaced the older one. However, in Solm, baroque architecture found a greater success in the secular domain than in the religious one. In the secular domain the Palace of Lemora has many baroque features.

Modern Architecture

The most notable Solmian architectural innovation has been the skyscraper, however, not the most popular due to the vast amount of suburban homes, as suburbia is the most common area in Solm. However, several technical advances made some of Solm's urbanization possible.

Lear's Communication's commissioned this building to be built for its headquarters and was Solm's first steel framed skyscraper, erected in 1885. Elevators allowed buildings to rise above the four or five stories that people were willing to climb by stairs for normal occupancy. Other structures followed such as the Le'Caro Building in Javo in 1885 by famous architect company: Alex and Ryan. This adopted palazzo design details to give the appearance of a structured whole; for several decades: Solmian skyscrapers would blend conservative decorative elements with technical innovation.
Soon skyscrapers encountered brilliant, new technological challenge. Load bearing stone walls become impractical as a structure gains height, reaching a technical limit at about 20 stories. Professional engineers solved the problem with a steel support frame in Javo's Alpha Tech HQ, 1885. Arguably this is the first true skyscraper. The use of a thin curtain wall in place of a load bearing wall reduced the building's overall weight by two thirds.

Another feature that was to become familiar in twentieth century skyscrapers first appeared in Nevers's Reliance Building, designed by famous architects. Because outer walls no longer bore the weight of a building it was possible to increase window size. This became the first skyscraper to have plate glass windows take up a majority of its outer surface area.

Javo's Hill Building, 1922, remains one of the 50 tallest buildings in Solm. This was a culturally significant early skyscraper. Raising previous technological advances to new heights, 792 ft (241 m), it was one of the world's tallest buildings in that time. The Hill Building blocked a significant amount of sunlight to the neighborhood. This inspired the Javo setback law that remained in effect until 1964. Basically the law allowed a structure to rise to any height as long as it reduced the area of each tower floor to one quarter of the structure's ground floor area.
Image

Another significant event in skyscraper history was the competition for Never's Gracious Tower. Although the competition selected a gothic design influenced by the Hill building, some of the numerous competing entries became influential to other twentieth century architectural styles. Second place finisher submitted a modernist design. Another entry brought attention to the Bauhaus school.

Some of the most graceful early towers were designed by George Sullivan, Solm's first great modern architect. His most talented student was Frank Alfred, who spent much of his career designing private residences with matching furniture and generous use of open space. One of his best-known buildings, however, is a public one: the René museum in Nevers.

Other Judean architects who emigrated to Solm before The Golden Age launched what became a dominant movement in architecture, the International Style. Perhaps the most influential of these immigrants was Yet Von Leba, both former directors of a famous design school. Based on geometric form, buildings in their style have been both praised as monuments to Solmian corporate life and dismissed as "glass boxes." In reaction, younger Solmian architects such as James Lener have rejected the austere, boxy look in favor of postmodern buildings such as those with striking contours and bold decoration that alludes to historical styles of architecture.

Skycraper hotels gained popularity with the construction of Helen Allure's Rema Hotel in Leá followed by his Renaissance Center in Hillano which remains the tallest skyscaper hotel in Solm. Modern Solmian governmental buildings and skyscrapers have a distinct style known as Federal Modernism.

The Forn

Contents
    I. Administration
    II. Characteristics

      2.1 Currency Sign . . . .
    III. Usage
    IV, Value

The Forn (sign: ƒ; code: RSF) is the official currency of the Federative Noocracy of Solm: various other nations, primarily in Judea, have Forns within circulation but none listed as their official currency other then Solm. The Forn is also the official currency used by Searon Institutions. Over four billion are estimated to use Forns daily throughout the world.

The forn is one of the largest reserve currency as well as one of the most traded currency in Judea. The Forn is unique, compared to other world currencies, the Forn has a gold and silver standard that has made it extremely powerful in the world market. Each forn is directly equivalent to a fixed amount of gold. One can exchange the currency for gold, silver, bronze, and copper. More popularly, however, referred to only as having a gold and silver standard.

The name Forn was officially adopted on April 30th, 1707 by the Grand Assembly of Solm. The forn was introduced to world financial markets six years later as an accounting currency, this replaced the original Solmian currency: The Alfa, at a ratio of 1:1. Four years later the forn coins and banknotes entered into circulation.

Administration

The forn is managed, administered, and printed by the Solmian National Bank (SNB). It has the sole responsibility to enforce the monetary policies set forth by the Grand Assembly and print the Solmian currency. Other government agencies, located throughout Solm participate in the minting of the Solmian currency, but the printing of the paper money is reserved to a location in Solm's capital: Corvian.

The Uniform Currency Act of 1801 conformed all seven provinces of Solm to adopt the same currency: the forn. Three years later, all regional currencies were classified defunct and the forn was a nationalized currency. The Forn soon rose to a powerful international currency, and the government of Solm recently announced an initiative to have foreign nations adopt the Solmian Forn as part of an objective to have Solm rise as an economic power.

Characteristics

Image
[An image of the front side of the Forn (ƒ20)
The forn is divided into 100 cents (symbolized as ƒc). All circulating coins have a common side showing the denomination or known as the value, a mysterious outline of an unknown figure, some speculate that it is Moreau, others believe it was a soldier from an unknown time. The government has never realized an official statement on the subject. Each coin (ƒc1, ƒc5, ƒc10, ƒc25, and ƒc50) has a unique side, one the ƒc1, the front of the Vian is the portrayed. The ƒc1 is the smallest coin, and the size of the coins gradually increase as the value increases. The ƒc5 has the first president of Solm's bust on it. The ƒc10 has former President Robert Fold's portrait centered on it with an olive branch surrounding it. The ƒc25 has the seal of Solm on it. The ƒc50 is distinct as it portrays an animal: a tiger. Each coin has a different color ring around its mid-section in which the images are portrayed. And all have the Federative Noocracy of Solm on its front.

In order to avoid the usage of ƒc1s, many cash transactions are rounded to the nearest five cents. There are several unique commemorative coins that have been issued by the Solmian government The bicentennial celebration of the Federative Noocracy's signing of the Articles of Harmony was commemorated by the limited introduction and circulation of a special ƒc2, displaying the first page of the Articles of Harmony on one side, and the uniform design on the other. A gold band surrounded it. They are still legal today. Other commemorative coins include changes to the design of the coin and changes to the color or size of the coin. They are considered legal tender and are considered even to the regular coin. Some collectors even pay extra for these limited edition coins.

The banknotes have similar characteristics and all display similar designs and text. All of these were designed by artist Andre Relx. These banknotes are issued in ƒ100, ƒ50, ƒ20, ƒ10, ƒ5, and ƒ1. Each banknote has its own color and a unique figure and design on the front. The back is also cleverly designed with geometric advanced designs. Each note shows the National Bank of The Federative Noocracy of Solm at the bottom left and the Solmian Forn on the left side. Numerous security advantages are included within the Forn that have not fully be released by the government or government agents.

Capital within Solm may be transferred in any amount from on nation to another, the government of Solm, and various other private industries have taken it upon themselves to provide the populace with exchange depots where they may exchange Forns for any other recognized foreign currency. Recent interest in a regional Judean currency have been argued over the years, but nothing has been finalized and is likely to ever happen.

Currency Sign

The special forn currency sign (ƒ) was designed after a public referendum narrowed it down from the original fourteen proposals. The original creator of the design is unknown, since it was a widely-used symbol and has been noted on historic documents throughout the middle and ancient ages. It is believed that the symbol was designed to mark the end of something, or a musical finale. Today it resembles the modern english f.

The Grand Assembly of Solm specified that the ƒ be used in 1801, with the Uniform Currency Act. It is widely used before the specified amount, for example: ƒ73.00, would equal 73 Forns and zero cents. The . is used to separate the amount of ƒs and the amount of ƒcs. This is the modern and proper way to write funds.

Usage

The forn is the sole currency of the Federative Noocracy of Solm, compromising of over three billion people in total. It is also used as a reserve currency. The share of the forn as a reserve currency has increased in the recent years as the Solmian government has expanded internationally. The forn remains underweight as a reserve currency in advanced economies while overweigh in emerging and developing economies. The possibility of forn becoming one of the leading reserve currencies is being heavily debated, and the likely hood is currently low.

Value

The decline in the value of the Solmian Forn corresponds directly to price inflation that is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. The consumer price index is a measure estimating the average price of consumer goods and services purchased by households. This reflects inflation as experienced by consumers in their day-to-day living expenses. This value of the forn declined significantly during wartime, especially during the Great Uprise, the Serpent Wars, and the Judean World War. Over the long run, the current gold standard kept prices stable, for example: the price level and the value of the Solmian forn in 1922 was not extremely different to that of 1900s. The National Bank could keep the Solmian economy running and prospering after times of recession. Due to the huge gold reserves that the government possesses, the government could continue its gold standard and keep the economy prospering.

The National Bank is still able to convert its currency to gold bullion, therefore the Solmian forn has been able to maintain its value. The Federative Noocracy of Solm is able to surpass other floating economies because of its currency anchored to either gold or silver. The current prevailing international economic view at the time was to have the currency float, but domestic experts suggested that as long as the Solmian government could maintain its conversion rates, then it will rise as an international economic superpower. The unique Solmian strategy has enabled it to surpass international recessions and survive under the harsh economic conditions that could of plagued it.

The Federative Noocracy of Solm (most commonly referred to as
merely Solm or the Noocracy) is a federal, constitutional
noocracy located in central Judea. Solm is bordered by the
Phoenix Confederation of Hobit to the north and the Righteous
Imperial Dominion of Tergnitz to the west. The Judean Sea coats
the Solmian south-western coast and the Tulgian Sea layers the
Solmian east coast, in which a archipelago of islands lies. Directly
to Solm's east, the island nation of Alahastra lies in the Tulgian Sea.

At roughly 24,824,800 square miles, Solm is one of the largest
nations in Judea in terms of land area, yet with only about
240,000,000 people, one of the smallest in terms of population.
The majority of Solm has a temperate climate, yet due to the size
of Solm, there are variances as one moves about the country. Most
of the population of Solm lives in the southwest corner and the
coastal areas in the east. The most populated city, Sevens, is on
the Tulgian Sea in southeast Solm.

Founded by explorers from the Phoenix Federation in 1103 C.E. The
explorers had originally landed in 1044 C.E. after an emergency
landing after getting lost at sea. The explorers enlisted the help of
the native population of Solm, the Corv. The explorers stayed there
for two years, before a message had reached them that the Phoenix
Federation had collapsed. Within ten years, thousands of
immigrants at arrived in this new land and began to make small
villages. By 1100, the population had exceeded 120,000 people
(not including the native population). A council of the chiefs of the
separate villages in this new land met and proclaimed the
conjoined villages and towns newly created a new nation named
the Federation of Solm. Solm underwent two major
transformations since its inception, once turning into a Republic
(the Republik of Solm) and finally in 1684 C.E. becoming the
Federative Noocracy of Solm.

In modern times, Solm has made it its initiative to take a leading
role in international politics, and taking an avid leadership role in
regional politics. It has soared to the Prime Minister of the Judean
Sanctum, and leading joint-region operations. Additionally, it has
made its presence known throughout the world in a myriad of
alliances. Solm participated in the First Judean Regional War that
spanned the entire region, and has most recently been involved in
the NEMA Wars and the Crimson War, an offensive bout with
Tergnitz. In the very recent times, it spearheaded the defensive side
(Sanctum) in the colossal Judean Civil War.
