Avoxlia derived from the words ‘vox via’, a Latinised phrase for the ‘Right Way’.

3: How did you came up to that name? I needed a creative name for my "Sins of a Solar Empire" empire so I decided upon the "Amn'Voss Demesne", eventually I started using Amn'Voss for all my nation-building games and NationStates was no exception.

[Hurtful Thoughts]

Waronline.net's forums directed me to peer-reviewed MMPORG library, browsed for free online browser games.

The initial idea was to get a clique to use Waronline's game mechanics to simulate war while Nationstates handled the rest (had to win campaign to 'legally' move to occupied region, with the idea to cover as many regions as you can).

That idea went out the window fairly quickly.

People's Republic Of Hurtful Thoughts is an intentionally missleading name and a misspelled backronymn of 'PROT'.
Definintion is thus:
Republic: A small group doing most of the work so the masses don't have to
People's Republic: For the masses, under popular support.

Therefore: It is a few folks holding a critrical mass of thoughts so painful to the brain so as to cause spontanious brain hemoraging so that the proles don't have to aspload their little heads about it. I am the disembodied voice of Avalaun. (Perhaps you’ve met my cousins hidden hand of the economy and the ears which the walls have?) 3: How did you came up to that name? I wanted a name for a nation that would be located on the west coast of North America, roughly including Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. I hit on Avalon because of its mythical association with the west and with being a sort of otherworldly, demi-paradisical land. Someone else must have used Avalon in the past though , so I made up “Avalaun” because, to my eye, it scans as sounding like Avalon, my realm needed a name, and Avalaun was still available as a name in NationStates.

Sure, let's go for this. First off, forgive the stupid default flag if it's still there when you read this; it is 2AM in the morning and I'm not bloody fixing it now when I have an exam first thing in the morning.

I found NationStates as an 11-year-old, actually. You see, I was (and am) a student at a secondary school in Sarf-Eas London. Back then, the filtering system was less than comprehensive on the school computers (it is now far more comprehensive, trust me), and NationStates was unblocked for a good year or so.

One day, I was in one of the computer rooms, and essentially, I got roped in by an associate into supporting his big brother (also a student) on NS by joining his new region, and the rest, as they say, is history. I was fairly active through much of 2004 and 2005, mainly being involved in World (insert Roman numerals here) RP, various tangentially related off-site RP, internal politicking in a couple of regions, and Football and Formula One sports stuff (my account should still be there on Jolt's forum, in all its 1500+ post 'glory') but my activity trailed off over time and by my thirteenth birthday I was essentially gone, off to frolick in polsim pastures.

I still kept my nation alive out of a sense of duty more than anything else, but my logging in became more and more sporadic and it died repeatedly, basically. I revived a couple of times, and gave a reasonable shot at restarting my roleplay (off-site) once, but it didn't last. I don't know if this'll last, or if it'll even involve me and RP colliding in any form whatsoever, but hell, let's go with it, eh?

Anyway, now "how I found it" it is done, let's do the rest. I'm Joseph Edwards, 16, from Orpington. Nation name is the Commonwealth of Rolatia (pending me messing about with it - if I do get back into RP, I don't have too much sensible to work on from previous experience for how the nation is) - I don't know how I got the name Rolatia, and all I know is that it's a semi-anagram of something, probably to do with liberty or democracy or that nonsense (my nation's capital is Redmofo, which is a semi-anagram of Freedom. Ah, the daftness of youth.). I can't figure out what, now. It's pronounced Rohlarsha - I again do not know why.

My name is unimportant. If my memory serves me, I found NationStates by reading about it from a local newspaper. I'm quite sure that's how I found it. The article itself may have been about NationStates, or Jennifer Government, or both.

The name of my nation is the Social Entity of The P. It might be related to my name, since I remember being in the middle of an egoistical urge back then. Then again, it might not, since my memory does kinda suck...

[Soviet Steam]

Heard about NationStates from many boards, like Civfanatics. This is the Socialist Republic of Soviet Steam, which name says it all, but not everything: As a fan of a classical CRPG called Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, I was inspired by that game's universe when I created Soviet Steam, except here it is a case of part of an alternate history Soviet Union that emerged a few months after the RL Paris Commune being mysteriously teleported to a world of magic and trying to force their scientific socialism paradigms into it(emphasis given on scientific). And of course, there are no Half-Orc unionists or Jew Gnome bankers with ancient conspiracies here. because I prefer to try being original.

Currently I RP/storywrite it as a world of dying magic which underwent a radical industrial revolution where even the enemies of Soviet Steam embraced science, and which is on the verge of a World War. Its tech level is roughly equivalent of early to mid World War One tech. Except for the occasional steam-powered automaton which is as much of a maintenance hog as a modern B-2 Spirit.

Oddly enough, for many years now, I've been known as Nathicana, Nathi, or the like - though previously, I went by Ketri (character name from a story I've worked on off and on for ages) on AOL probably oh, 14 years ago. Gads. That takes me back.

I found the site through of all things, an SCA mailing list for lady fighters and the men who support them, under the name Madalena Renaldi. This isn't even the first nation I made, though it is the one I've used the most. Oddly enough, it started out as a joke, porting over the name from the MUD I played on, finding 'Nathicana' itself taken, and coming up with 'Dread Lady' to go with it because hey, how great a thing for a dictatorship is that, neh? It started as a bit of a joke, but I built on to it, and found it was actually a lot of fun to rp, and eventually developed it into a fairly detailed nation with a load of characters, and a lot of memorable (to me at least) interactions, and eventually, some fantastic friendships here on NS.

I've officially gone by 'The Dominion', though as you can see, its 'Dread Lady Nathicana' with 'The Dominion of' tagged on the nation page.

Well I had to come up with an acceptable reason why it has the ridiculous premise of holding the leader's name by saying each dictator that takes control takes a title, and The Dominion falls under their name, by right. Yes, as some might have guessed, Nathicana the name is from H.P. Lovecraft - a poem. I chose it for playing a mage on the RoundTable MUD years ago, and there you have it. Put it together, and here we are.
