Prisons in your nation

Postby Strategion » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:38 pm

1. Does your country have prisons?

2. What do they look like? Are they more like this

or this?

3. How do you treat prisoners? Are they allowed visits from family members, exercise, education, leisure time etc?
----
Strategion has prisons which look a lot like the second photo. Cells are completely empty except for a chamber pot - no beds, flush toilets, etc. They have to sleep on the floor and we periodicaly release rats, cockroaches and other pests inside to keep things from getting too cushy. We treat our prisoners atrociously.

1. We have rehabilitation centers.
2. Like this.
3. With care, dignity and respect for their problem. Some may even be able to leave at the end of the day, while others must remain at the facility full time. Family and friends can visit during visiting hours and there is a common area for entertainment and leisure activities including a gym, as well as educational facilities for college courses.

Prisons in Radictistan are like Option One, only a little less well-kept. Radictistan is a civilized country and any inhumane conditions which might occur in prisons are the result of limited resources rather than official malfeasance.

Prisoners are expected to work off their crimes. Simply sitting in a cell does not count towards one's sentence- they are expected to work a number of man-hours on a prison assembly line, mainly by maintaining machinery used in mass production. There are two main kinds of prisons, Light and Heavy. Light prisons are generally safe and low-intensity, making products such as textiles, license plates, and are reserved for petty criminals and such. Heavy prisons are usually built with drydocks for shipmaking, assembly lines for tanks, cars, aircraft, and other heavier products. Prisons can be, and often are, leased by private companies. The pay is lower, and goes to the prisoner's family, not him/her.

Pretty much the first one. Prisons are ran by the army and army MPs do guard duty. Minutemen agents also perform duties at high exclusive prisons that contain prisoners of high status and are essential to national security or military intelligence. Such a prison would be Bunder Island a high maximum security prison.

Prison dormitories in the FSR are reasonable, clean, sparse accommodations. Each room is for one person, and has room for a bed, a curtained off toilet and small shower, a shelf for personal belongings (which are very limited), one chair, and a work desk. Rooms may be padded for the safety of an inmate.

Inmates are considered to owe a debt to society which they must repay by being occupied in some useful service to the nation. Access to creative services are for inmates who have served with good behavior and who have not committed heinous crimes. Otherwise, inmates are given service tasks that involve simple production. Nothing hazardous or inhumane, and cruel and unusual punishment is expressly forbidden.

1. Yes, of course we do.

2. Neither, though more like the second. They're solid titanium boxes with holes only large enough for air to be vented in. Prisoners, food, and water are teleported in, and waist is teleported out.

3. During their time in prison they are allowed no contact with other sapient beings. Their names are replaced with numbers to remove their sense of self. They are teleported into an exercise room where they must complete a preplanned exercise every day. The exercise increases in difficulty and if the prisoner does not complete the it in the prescribed amount of time in the proper order and rhythm he is given a powerful shock via an implant in his spinal column. They are given nothing to read, watch, or in anyway stimulate themselves(we have a way to stop them from... you know), and they are given nothing with which they could end their lives. Anyway if they tried to choke themselves with food we could just teleport the obstructions from their bodies. The lights in their cells are always on in order to keep them from knowing how many days they've been in prison. We administer a sedative gas to make them sleep. Our prisons are not the kind of place you want to end up. The longest know sentence was for two hundred years. The man emerged and had forgotten how to speak and function in society.

Because the poor don't need to commit a crime to commit another crime (fraud) to go hang out with rapists, murderers, pedophiles and other dangerous individuals to have such amenities. :eyebrow:

Simple living, and physical labor one key to rehabilitation. As the eye needs light to see, so the soul needs labor to understand. This is part of our four sided approach to rehabilitation: physical labor, Team work, secular education, and spiritual development.

1. Does your country have prisons?
Yes, but all they're all privately owned.

2. What do they look like?
Varied, a national survey found that the common trend in individual cells happens to look like this:

3. How do you treat prisoners? Are they allowed visits from family members, exercise, education, leisure time etc?
Prisoners are are one of our greatest resources. We assume they're kept nice and active, prehaps not so healthy.
If contradiction is key, this nation exists only in paradox.

Many people convicted of a crime are allowed to walk freely within our domes, but are monitored carefully and may be forbidden to meet certain people or go to certain places.

For those prisoners who must be taken out of society for a time, we have rehabilitation centers. They are comfortable in a minimalistic sense. Prisoners are treated well, get psychiatric evaluations, and encouraged to improve themselves.

For those prisoners who seem resistant to rehabilitation, as a last resort they are taken to a maximum security prison here:

1. Does your country have prisons?

Yes. They are where we keep prisoners who commit petty crimes, such as theft, that are not executed. They are also where we keep prisoners that commit crimes so foul that execution is far too lenient.

2. What do they look like?
Kind of like this:

And this:

3. How do you treat prisoners? Are they allowed visits from family members, exercise, education, leisure time etc?
Visits? Education? Leisure time? Criminals are not deserving of these. They do get plenty of exercise, however. Petty criminals do constant hard physical labor. The aforementioned "worst" criminals are tortured constantly until death(And we are quite good at artificially prolonging death).

3. Prisoners are made to perform physical labor, improving national infrastructure, though are given access to educational resources, some leisure time, and are permitted to have one visitor per month.

Our country does not maintain prisons. Criminals are either executed or fined: Those who cannot afford to pay their fines are contracted out to privately operated labor facilities where they perform labor in exchange for having their fines paid by the operating company.

Prison cells in the Nyasinichi are modern and well maintained. Under the Civil Liberties Act of 2009, passed by the Civil Rights Sector of the High Court, Resolution 7 states civil rights must be maintained with in prison. Liberty may be oppressed to some standard but one must be well kept.

Prison cells look similar to this.

Prisoners must work 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday. Education and correctional facilities are available.

In Antarsia prisons look much like the first photo, though, in Antarsia, prisoners have to work for it. Every day they have to do a standard worktime of 10 hours, mostly doing hard labor such as working in steel and copper mills, working in scrap stations, working in garbage processing, recycling plants, etc. If they dont work they don't get fed.

3. How do you treat prisoners? Are they allowed visits from family members, exercise, education, leisure time etc?
We use them as workers who work in factories nearby from 5am to 12 pm. They have a number of quota, if they meet it -- they are okay, if they exceed quota they get a voucher which they can use for special facilities such as extra food or septate bunk or more cloths etc, if they dont meet the quota they are either given less food or sent to punishment cell where they will be hung upside down naked for 7 days without food or water and will be given whipping by Stinging nettle dipped in water. They cant meet anyone.

How do you treat prisoners?

They are treated with the respect but they are prisoners so they dont got much freedom, they have to work 9 hours a day and the food has been described as "Crap only animals deserve".
But on the 3 hours of freetime they have they are allowed to watch TV, play games or even swim.

There are currently 356,932 people jailed in Vecherd now, 61% of them are male.
