Postby Interstellar Empire » Sun Oct 24, 2010 5:49 pm

What are the income tax brackets in your nation?

In the Interstellar Empire, the income tax rates are 15%, 22%, 26%, and 29%

An income tax is a fee for services rendered so we only have one bracket. It's 10%. It's also our only tax.

Taxes vary on the state that collects them, most are flat taxes, right now the highest is 25% and the lowest is 1% of income, ignoring the few that run entirely on charity. The Celestial Union itself has no taxation but rather collects a fixed fee from all member states.

The Adrian Empire as it's own state charges a 3% Flat Income Tax.

There's only 1 bracket - 0%.

In other words, we don't have income taxes - it's unconstitutional.

There is no income tax at the national or borough level. The Royal Supreme Court ruled in 2003 that the borough income tax was unconstitutional when it was challenged against the Bill of Rights' "Undue Burden" Clause.

We have two income tax brackets:
  1. 100%
  2. much higher for the rich
We have a feeling that some people aren't paying what they owe.

Everybody who makes enough to qualify to pay the national Income Tax at all pays a strictly flat 1%, no exceptions. We are considering abolishing the IT and using other, more just taxes instead.

How nice. Our state, however, provides cetain services to the people, for which it sadly sometimes requires the people to loan it a spot of cash.

Individual incomes are not taxed in the Socialist Republic (considering that it is exceedingly rare for an individual to make money independently of a commune), though the numerous collectives are taxed to varying degree, depending upon their ability to pay. These taxes are usually paid in the form of materials, products, or services, and so "taxation" seems to be less appropriate a term than "bartering."

It is generally accepted that this system is highly inefficient, and quite wasteful.

I love how people who have taxes feel the need to defend such taxes whenever a system without taxes is mentioned

does it not strike you as odd, to be so defensive about your system

We have no individual income tax, so there are no brackets. Instead, we have highly lucrative stupidity taxes, which we find to be eminently fair, as stupidity is responsible for nearly all of the problems society faces, and therefore, by making it taxable, the tax burden is placed upon those who cause us to need taxes at all. Plus, they're too stupid to notice.

There’re is no income tax brackets per say used within the Commonwealth, merely a sliding progressive flat tax scale used instead.

  • Those making $38,346.62 CEs {Commonwealth Euros} or less each year pay no local or federal income tax. This applies equally to both individual and corporate taxes.
  • Those making $38,347 or more CEs a year pay on an sliding income tax rate up to between 48% and 52%. Those falling into this tax segment have their tax rate determined by their yearly income in so far as there not taxed below the minimal wage of 38,346.62 CEs a year as set by the Commonwealth government and people. This applies equally to both individuals and corporations.

Example: The average citizen in the Commonwealth currently makes $41,414.02 CEs each year. They pay a maximum of 7.4056% income tax each year covering both local and federal taxes with local taxes taking priority. Those in the above example can not be taxed above that 7.4056% rate whether they are local or federal taxes.

A little complicated, but through a little social engineering of it's tax rates the Commonwealth government ensures that the vast majority of its people enjoy a standard of living unheard of throughout the rest the world in the quite comfortable middle-class all the while maintaining a strong defense, universal healthcare and free public universal education through four years of college. Did we also mention a low crime rate...

So plan your next vacation today and come visit us here in the Commonwealth Kingdom, enjoy the fruits of liberty and peace and have a grand old time, what happens in the Commonwealth stays within the Commonwealth.

============================================================================

To all those who stated they have no income taxes at all, I loved to hear how your government has any revenue at all to support any of the programs it runs {that includes defense} considering most governments get the majority of their yearly revenue from income taxes. Sales taxes, Capital Gains taxes, etc… are generally less than 5% total and usually closer to 1 or 2 percent of a government’s yearly revenue sources.

((yes I dont RP with my Home Page's rate cos:-
1. Its impossible.
2. There are other taxes like VAT, Visa tax and blablabla which Game Mechanics ignore))
