Never mind that it is a direct phonological copy of "tank".

Tank in German is Panzerkampfwagen (Armour Fight Vehicle/Wagon), Panzer denotes Armour, as in actual armour.

A note to coffee snobs everywhere - Do we applaud fair-trade, sustainable farmed, shade-grown joe? Sure. Why not? But when we sit down to a cup of coffee in the morning, we are not particularly interested in the blueberry, caramel, or tomato soup nuances a dedicated roaster can coax out of a bean, nor in the intricate ballet of the four-minute pour-over or the Eva Solo flagon. We want coffee that tastes like coffee, and we want it now.

We call them tanks, however they can also be referred to as the 'char' or carro armato in French and Italian, respectively.

Tanks or Armour are used, the first when dealing with individual vehicles, the latter when refering to the vehicles as a whole ("seventy tanks" vs "a company of armour").

Armored land fighting vehicles are officially known as "Panzers", which is a lessened and more refined version of the classified term short for gepanzerte kampfpanzer.

OOc: As a RL German, I have to  ; you have written "armoured battle armour" Yes, makes perfect sense. Listen, if you people want to use German Abbreviations and nomenclature, do your homework. Panzerkampfwagen, shortened into Panzer - Armoured Combat Vehicle. And please, don't write "Panzers", plural and singular are both "Panzer".

They are in German. However, Panzer is a word that was co-opted by the English language a long time ago, and has long since been drafted into English rules of grammar, including pluralization. Panzers is a correct plural in English usage.

OOC: Well look at that. Google said the same. Didn't know that one. But regardless, google also states that it is a german loanword which is used to name/describe german tanks and armoured vehicles. So, why would a English speaking Nation use the english plural when refering to its own tanks? I am well aware that many, maaaany nations are german in nature or inspired by the german Culture and language, so shouldn't they use the German "Panzer" instead of the english?

In Yannia, tanks are known as pantsërwágën, which is actually short for the official term, pantsërstreydwágën.

Pantsër means armour, streyd means fight, wágën means vehicle.
