There's nothing treasonous about it, so of course it's legal. The largest former-human enclave now has quite a few brothels, which are usually run by the makers of bio-analogous modification parts. The prostitutes at these places are quite willing; they can charge a fortune due to the rarity of such professionals on Cybertron, and often become rich in short order!

Human trafficking is technically legal, too, but trying to force a human into sexual slavery wouldn't result in anything worthwhile even for formerly-human citizens. All of our citizens are 100-ft-tall robots, so owning a full-human sex slave leads only to frustration.

The closest equivalent, which is the trafficking of formerly-human Decepticons, doesn't work out well due to the fact that *all* Decepticons are armed to the teeth, whether they are native-built or immigrant. Trying to enslave one will result in a live-fire battle that will only end when one of the parties has been deactivated.

The one way around that - hacking - is pretty much mooted by the fact that a hacked Decepticon goes for between 100,000 and 1 million Energon Cubes when sold as a mine slave. When offered that kind of money, even the horniest former-human hackers suddenly decide that they don't need to keep that person as a sex slave after all!

But like most every other crime under the regime of the Immortal Pope, those prosecuted are treated quite harshly, as it's treated as a crime against God. Execution is universal.

Mostly it happens just outside the borders. Yksikaksikolme has no government to speak of, Liege-X is far more liberal than the NPS, and the bordering microstates tend to be fit in either of those two categories.

But it's pretty obvious if you go over the border for a single night. And your neighbors will probably hate you forever. So it's pretty uncommon that people even want to engage in it.

The Mirkanan sex industry is government-controlled (like all industries in Mirkana) and falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Morale. Their purpose is to keep up citizen morale. Most sex workers, such as strippers and prostitutes, are part-time workers. The only full-time sex workers outside of the porn industry are escorts and bedders.

The best description of a bedder is a paid girlfriend (or boyfriend) for a night. Bedders handle more than sexual needs, they handle emotional needs. They are viewed as kind people who care about others. It is not uncommon for an officer to pay for a bedder to take care of a soldier under his command.

There is a Jankenjin "sex industry" of varying legality and social respectability. Of course, since our species is ambisexual, our sex industry is a bit different from humans:

On the legal and (relatively) more respectable end of the scale, there are "frill and tail bars". These are basically nightclubs with scantily clad performers performing vaguely erotic acts. (How scantily clad and how vague depends on how respectable or sleazy the bar is.) The name comes from the roles the performers play: a performer acting in an ogawa (masculine) role is called a "frill", and one acting in a megawa (feminine) role is called a "tail". Frill and tail bars cater to Jankenjin of a particular gender, so for example, a guujin frill and tail bar will have paajin frills and chokijin tails on stage. One strict rule, however, is that frills and tails can never be on stage at the same time--that's considered obscene by our standards. Frill and tail bars are usually heavily regulated, and one that goes over the line will probably get raided by the vice squad pretty soon.

On the quasi-legal but less respectable end, there are Jankenjin who serve as "escorts" for unfilled triads. That is, two Jankenjin of different genders will seek out one of the third gender to complete their triad. It's considered immoral to pay a Jankenjin for this sort of service--it makes a mockery of the marriage triad, and Jankenjin have a high regard for the institution of marriage. Most communities outlaw it, but in more "liberal" ones folks will sometimes turn a blind eye to it.

On the illegal and seedier end of the scale, there are Jankenjin prostitutes. They turn tricks as either frills or tails depending on what gender their "john" is. Like human prostitutes, they can be found in all varieties, from high-priced "call girls" to truck-stop "lot lizards". Prostitution is considered immoral, and it is outlawed pretty much everywhere except in a few free-wheeling autonomous provinces.

On the totally illegal and nasty end of the scale are "retrograde" prostitutes. A "retrograde" Jankenjin is one who reverses the normal sex roles for our species; for example a guujin that acts megawa to a chokijin and ogawa to a paajin is considered "retrograde". It is a SERIOUS taboo among our people, something like the taboo against homosexuality among more conservative human cultures. Since a "retrograde" Jankenjin is not likely to find a respectable outlet for their desires, there is a very small and usually well-hidden industry of "retrograde" prostitutes that cater to them. This sort of behavior is pretty much beyond the pale for us, and any Jankenjin that gets busted for it isn't likely to receive much mercy from the local law.

There is no illegal provision of either, as both are considered to be obsolete - as a people, Ochrians do not value sex without love, and use the imagination for titillation.

Being as most Augarians (88%) are Actan Catholic (thus viewing brothels with a certain degree of disdain, as it degrades the humanity of both the prostitute and customer, or so Augarians believe), and the culture is very asexual (Augarian males and females look upon sex as a means of production- rather than enjoyment- with which they can continue the family name and achieve a secure heir to which inheritance can be funneled)... most Augarians do not participate in such activities.

Pornography, while legal, is uncommon amongst Augarians: an Augarian is unlikely to view physical sexuality as something particularly appealing, instead believing that the single time in which sex is appropriate (marriage) represents a financial agreement for the betterment of two parties (this is a common modern sentiment: a large minority of marriages continue to be based off of an emotional relationship in some fashion, though most are made for convenience's sake, uniting two family fortunes; a sort of diplomacy, though not necessarily arranged by parents). Pornography is, however, common amongst the immigrants to Augarundus.

Brothels are fully legal in the Imperial Republic. They are lightly taxed and regulated by the government that sees them as a way to cut down on extramarital affairs and divorces. Society as a whole sees no problem with them, though many a middle and lower class housewife would like to see less of the household income end up going to these brothels.

As far as pornography and sex toy industry, it is all legal but frowned upon by a large minority. The age of consent is 17 for all sexual activities, though sex between two minors is not illegal though discouraged.
