one would think, but then again, the Hot (kill) and cold (stun) settings prove good. After all a good hit kills.

hydrodynamic penetration results at those kinds of speeds from a railgun

UPDATE: Depleted uranium rounds exist (the Grand Army of the Capitalismus, privately supplied, may own such rounds, but not deploy them). They are not permitted to be employed in combat- they are considered genocidal (they cause uranium pollution, affecting the civilian populace and causing increased cancer rates) and do not obey the Augarian laws of war.

Nonetheless, they have been deployed, as, in the Great Yallakian War (the single conflict the Capitalismus has entered), the Grand Army of the Capitalismus was not entirely well-regulated. Law enforcement on the front, in some cases, was difficult to enforce (despite widespread cases of forces abiding by the laws of war).

Capitalism is always the answer. Whenever there's a problem in capitalism, you just need some more capitalism. If the solution isn't capitalism, then it's not really a problem. If your capitalism gets damaged, you just need to throw some capitalism on it and get on with your life.

((OOC: Tungsten alloys are, surprisingly, just as nasty an ecological hazard and carcinogen as DU.

The only reason DU is demonised is because it contains the word "uranium". Seriously, that's the only reason.

Actually, Wolfram penetrators of a given size start outperforming DU penetrators of the same size somewhere around 1.7 km/s.

Although some have objected to it, our environmental studies show that DU remains one of the most environmentally friendly choices for conventional munitions available, not to mention expensive inexpensive, as it is a cheaply available byproduct of our nuclear industries. Studies have found that heavy usage of DU is capable of rendering an area uninhabitable by humans for years, which further studies have conclusively demonstrated to be a massive boon for the environment, just like every other nuclear "disaster". Soil and water samples of DU-contaminated areas reveal that they are amongst the cleanest in the region. Results like this cannot be denied: DU is good for the environment!

Military forces of the Federal Republic of Yankoslavia will use DU weaponry, especially in heavy weapons such as tank rounds, the ammunition fired by the A-10 tank killers, etc...

DEPLETED Uranium, you could use all sorts of munitions short of spraying DU dust over an area and still have it be safe to use. The problem with DU isn't the mild radiation, but the fact that consuming (or getting it into your system in any way) it is bad for you, just like lead, or mercury, or tungsten, or any other heavy metal. Also, unless you purposely put carcinogens into your air, soil, and water, having an area become radioactive will never help the environment whether the people leave or not.

Yes, we use depleted uranium rounds for our heavy tanks, although making rounds to fit an M1 Abrams, T-80, and Merkava are kind of making a dent in our defense budget. [ugh]

Yeah, so does a .50 caliber titanium/tungsten round fired from a HSR (heavy sniper rifle). Or an 8mm titan/tung round shot from a rail weapon of some kind. Mini Godrods?

We use DU penetraters for all our anti-armor needs, as well as using it at part of an exotic armor cocktail similar to Chobham armor.
