Condemn. A professional army assisted by a national militia is better. All Malacanian men are part of the militia, but no one is forced to fight.

Commend, though the Empire does retain a slavery, it is mostly for lack of a better use of hostile alien species.

As a way of securing revenue the Empire charges a fee on all imports and exports entering and leaving the nation, basically considered a surcharge for their safe protection, this fee can be waived by having armed escorts if it is economical to do so.

Condemn. Protectionism leads to stagnation. Free trade is the only proper method of international trade.

The modern day (2010) Principality of Galla has used the same rifle round (6.5x50mm Gallan) and pistol cartridge (4.6x35mm Gallan) for roughly 80 years. The former is used in the current M7 line of assault rifles, and the latter is used in the M10 Personal Defence Weapon, a scaled-down version of the M7

In actuality, the reason that the Gallan nation has never changed it's weapon calibre is because the 6.5x50mm offers ridiculous armour penetration and stopping power, for a small amount of recoil. There is also the fact that the 4.6x35mm is just a necked down .22 Hornet that was introduced in 1938, and now competes with newer PDW cartridges, most notably the 4.6x30mm H&K.

@Krean: Indifferent. The Gallan people have no knowledge of any wars within the Milky Way Galaxy, nor do the affairs of far-away alien races concern them.

@Adrian: Commend. Firearms and ownership is an important part of national security.

The Principality of Galla has yet to be involved in any serious overseas wars, although it's military retains a definite naval force projection capability in the form of three Canberra-class LHDs and one Invincible-class aircraft carrier.

Commend, people should be free to travel as they please, who was it that said that when people/commodities flow through borders, Soldiers won't.

@ Senestrum, I highly disagree, people are more inclined to speak their minds when they do not need to fear the threats of others, a firearm is an equalizer in this situation, so long as you have a gun you have no need to fear anyone else who has one. A protester has nothing to fear from a heckler, for he can defend himself if necessary, both are free to say as they will because neither has power over the other. Even if you don't have a weapon you can always count on the armed virtuous to defend you from those who would restrict your rights to speak freely.

The Adrian Empire bans the use of nuclear weapons on population centres, as a matter of domestic policy.

@Senestrum, I feel it's you who is overestimating the likelihood people would get into gun fights, naturally knowing anyone you are going to pull a gun on is likely to be armed is reason enough to never do it. So there is really little risk of people being worried about free speech, they are armed so are their detractors, fighting would be dangerous to both sides, so the best alternative is reasonable discussion, which should be the goal of any act of free speech.

@Valiqutte, yes that is our only objection, we quite like gender equality, most Imperial Starships not only have both genders represented but a myriad of alien species

Commend, the Empire has many alien residents who applaud such a motion

@ Adrian: And what if people want to be unreasonable? Eh? If I want to tell someone he's a backstabbing communist nigger fag, I shouldn't have to worry about him shooting me in the gut. A bit extreme, but it extends to any situation where somebody may be told something they do not like. Besides, if everybody is going to magically be reasonable, the gun is utterly superfluous, except, perhaps, as a phallic male icon. :p
