II. Geography

The Commonwealth of Almaniania is a region of diverse types of landscapes. The nation is made up of 8,654,562 sqaure kilometers. Due to the diversity of these lands, many citizens have established different dialects from one another. These lands are divided into four Sections, which are further divided into 20 provinces.

The different sections are host to diverse ecosystems and wildlife. Each section has a different environment from the other, leading to an ever increasing diversity in wildlife. In recent years, the government has stepped the enforcement of anti-poaching laws (except during scheduled hunting seasons) and have increased the number of national parks. Failure to abide by the rules can result in fines, revokation of hunting liscense, and jail time.
The current government has pushed a pro-environment agenda, while making sure the economy remains stable. Due to the production of a nuclear fission reactor, the need for fossil fuels has tapered off, leading to the protection of coal rich lands. The nation currently bans the use fossil fuels as it is a threat not only to the air, but to the wildlife as well. Companies that control private beaches are subject to numerous laws requiring the care and maintenance of these beaches. Failure to do so results in fines and seizure of these lands.

Map: Currently unavailable (I need to find a good one first...)

1. The Northern Tropics:
The Northern Section is a mainly tropical region with many mountains and hills dotting the lands. This section is broken up into 4 provinces. The average rainfall is between 70-80 inches per year. Much of the water drains into the Ariconda River. As a result of this draining, the Ariconda River has over 500 known tributaries, 15 of which extend for over 1000 miles. The average temperature is about 90-110 degrees Fahrenheit.
The remoteness of the region makes it ideal for military exercise, as few people live in the region. The people that do live in the region live near one of the tributaries that flow into the Ariconda River. Many people are miners, who work to mine gold, silver, gems, and uranium.
There are 10 known towns in the region. However, the only 4 cities are the capitols of each of the provinces.

2. The Eastern Seaboard:
The Eastern Region is often called the "Coastal Zone." All 6 provinces that have been established in this region have a coastline. The region has a temperate climate, although palm trees have been found near the beaches. The average precipitation is between 40-50 inches per year for the region and the average temperature is around 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Due to the natural harbors on the coast and the temperate climate, the majority of people live in this section of the nation. There are at least 19 towns and 9 cities that are mapped. In addition to the 9 cities, the 6 capitols maintain a high residency number. Due to the high population levels, many businesses set up their headquarters in this section.
Due to the natural harbors on the coastline, the Eastern Seaboard is known as being the center of trade for the nation. It is also known for its many casinos and boardwalks. The section is home to lumber, seafood, and agricultural products. The capitol of the nation (Galt City) is located on the coastline.

3. The Western Plains:
This region has been known for its rolling hills and its rich topsoil. It is divided up into 5 provinces. With an average rainfall of 40-60 inches per year, a number of rivers have made their way through this section. As a result, water is in abundance in the region, allowing for mass irrigation projects. In this region alone, up to 80% of the land has been irrigated. The average temperature is between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit, making it ideal for farming.
Many of the people that have settled here are farmers. Known as the "Almanianian Breadbasket," the Plains produce 70% of all agricultural products in the nation. This is due to the rich topsoil in the region. Many "retirees" have moved to the Plains to live in vineyards, which dot the landscape. There are currently 17 mapped towns and 9 cities, including the 5 capitols of the provinces. The landscape is ideal for photography and tourism, which makes the region rich in profit.

4. The Southern Islands:
The Southern Islands are a chain of tropical islands south of the Western Plains. The islands are divided into 5 provinces. The average rainfall for the region is 50-70 inches per year, and the average temperature is from 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit, making it an ideal spot for tourism. The region is filled with cocoa trees, bamboo plants, sugar cane and coffee trees.
Due to the plants that are grown here, people who live in the South are commonly called "Jumpies" by the rest of the nation because of the large intake of coffee, cocoa, and sugar. In fact, most people in the South keep a strict intake of all three. Unlike the harsh designs of the North, the Southern Islands are less hostile. Therefore, a large population has been known to live on the islands.
The Islands are often connected by large bridges or ferries. Hotels are found on many of the islands. Due to the beauty of the region, the government has banned the lumber industry from the entire region and has declared the region to be protected. However, the harvesting of crops is still allowed, as much profit is made in the market.

III. History of Almaniania

Act 1: Colonization

In the year 1778 AD, a group of refugees set out from an unknown homeland in search of a new home. These refugees, collectively known as Manians, had chartered a vessel to find unclaimed land to colonize in the name of freedom. On October 8, 1778, the refugees landed at what is now Galt City. Due to the diminished food supply, the refugees went ashore. However, they were unable to plant any crops, due to the end of the growing season. Natives were kind enough to offer support and shelter to the tired refugees.
As Spring came however, the refugees and the natives grew increasingly hostile. Before war could erupt between the two sides, Joseph Galt intervened in the conflict. He and the Chief of the tribe sat down and worked out a compromise. War had been successfully averted, and the two sides lived in peace. The refugees founded the town of Galt in his honor, and created the province of Eranzi. Joseph Galt was elected as the Governor of Eranzi. Under his leadership, the province grew in size and population.

The natives and the refugees eventually began to intermingle. Children of mixed race became increasingly common. By the year 1789 AD, the Natives and the refugees united their lands together to form the nation of Almania. As of this time, Almania was made up of three provinces (all on the Eastern Seaboard) and had a Constitutional Monarchy. Joseph Galt became the King of Almania.
He was the first King of Almania... and the last.

Act 2: The King of Almania amd the Demise of the Constitutional Monarchy
Joseph Galt ascended to the throne in 1789 AD. Under his wise leadership, Almania soon quadrupled in population. Many that immigrated to these lands were refugees fleeing from war, poverty, and oppression. Immigration brought disease however, and a plague soon spread across the land. Between the years 1791-1800 alone, 1 in every 5 people died of the plague. Eventually, the plague died down, and the population grew once more.
The increasing size in population led to the need for more territory. On top of this, the food surplus was rapidly decreasing. Almania began to expand its borders to the south of the nation. By 1810, the nation had grown to include three new provinces. These new provinces turned out to hold excellent soil, and helped end the Near Famine of 1811.
The ideas of Liberalism soon spread to Almania. Many people read the works of the Late Hugo Browski, whose works had inspired much of the liberal ideas we know today. In many pubs, debate was found to be common. Women soon began to read the works of Hugo Browski and argued that they deserve their own set of rights. The situation was never resolved at that time however, as King Joseph Galt died on November 26, 1816 AD. The nation was in chaos, as he had no children and no heir. Quickly, the Congress moved to restore order in the nation.
After order was resolved, a new debate broke out over the position of the Monarch. Monarchists demanded a new Monarch be elected, while Democratic-Republicans sought to elect a President. After much argument, it was put to a plebiscite. In what is now known as the Great Plebiscite of 1817, the majority of the nation voted to create a President. The election was set to begin in 1818, which set the stage for a new age of politics.
