Clear choice, though I've always liked to keep kitten-firing capability open just in case.

He means which cartridge, also, since his second gun is an AUG knockoff I am guessing 5.56.

Why Subsonic?

Why not go mach 2 MV with the BulletKitten?

quote from wiki snip

This is assuming first off you can hit the darned thing.

This is not the Black Hawk Down Movie. Hitting a vehicle moving in excess of 100kph over 100m off the ground is fucking hard with a unguided weapon.

You can wait till the thing is landing and fire sure, but than you've just exposed your position, and you are vulnerable to return fire from orbiting helos you cant hit because they are either moving too fast/too high.

This assumes you first off hit a vulnerable spot on the helo. Not much is known about this popularly but a UH-60 in Mogadishu took a direct hit and survived long enough to fly to a Pakistani controlled Sector. It was hit near the base of the tail if i recall correctly.

First not a wiki snip, its from Global Security , secondly this isn't some half-baked couch general idea, its something that has been done and has worked in the past. Anyway I never said that any old hit would down a chopper, the best thing to do is a) Hit the rotor and remove the counter force, b) Kill the pilot because without one the things going down fast, c) Hit the rotor/engine hard enough to remove the lift force. A chopper could take multiple hits near the passenger section/tail base and fly without to much worries.

EDIT: Here we go

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... ry-rpg.htm

Of course everyone knows about the Blackhawks, I think this line of discussion is about Apaches, though.

Interesting question, it would be harder to hit because its sleeker and moving faster, not to mention firing back, but a single hit could drop it like a stone, because the entire thing is either crew, engine, weapons or fuel. Any of these really shouldn't be put anywhere near an RPG. It wouldn't have the empty space like a transport chopper.

Too address in the order you presented

A: Very hard. Those things arent big after all. If i recall correctly, those two UH-60s were hit in the actual rotor. The first one, Wolcott was sheared off immediately by my memory. Durants however almost made it back to base, only to be brought down by a loose bolt or something of the like.

B: This is easier, but still damned hard unless the thing is hovering and very, very, very close.

C: That UH-60 i mentioned that made it to Pakistani controlled territory that was hit by a RPG, well, it was pretty much hit in the engine, and, if i recall correctly, it did knock one of the two engines out of commission. This is the reason why Helos today now have 2 or even three engines. Knock one out and hopefully the other keeps it aloft long enough to make it to friendly turf. (The helo in question was Super 6-8, which was crippled by the hit, but did in fact make it back to the airport)

As to your claim of "Not a couch general idea", i dont dispute that RPGs have brought helos down in the past. The issue herein is your proposing using a HEAT round to bring a helo down. This actually minimizes the damage done to the helo, because, unless it is in the direct path of that rather thin jet of Molten Metal, you aint doing nothing. HEF would be 100x more effective in Anti-Helo ops, because than, all you need to do is hit the Helo. With a HEAT you need to hit and have the shell point at something very vital. This is of course, hard at distance and with the helo going at speed.
In other words, conservatives are generous with their own money, and liberals are generous with other peoples money.

In the order you presented,
A) Fair enough about trying to hit it, you would tend to think that a hit would break it though, even if it was damaged the amount of counter force would be lessened and thus the stability of the whole aircraft.
B) They did say 100m, you could probably hit a hovering or approaching helicopter fairly easily if you knew how to aim the RPG properly.
C)I guess the multi engine thing does invalidate that point.

I wasn't aware I was talking exclusively about HEAT  Fair enough that it isn't the best means of attacking a chopper and other warheads would do better.

I was contemplating making a bullpup AR and I came across this, Its got to be one of the trolliest rifles I've ever seen. Its the bullpup version of an Iranian gun that is a copy of an illegal Chinese made M-16. If using an illegal version of your antagonists service rifle wasn't bad enough it is named after a battle in which Muhammad expelled Jews from an oasis...

I wonder how differently history would have gone if America went, with AR-10 and AR-18 rather than M-14 and M-16.

Go for a modernized Widowmaker next time, it was made by a American company, offer the accuracy of the M-16 and ease of use of full auto without the reliability issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armalite_AR-18Also for a battle rifle, try blending some the M-14's modifications with the AR-10 platform. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-10Also,using the widowmaker now will save you from having to introduce the HK-416 later.

You do know that was a sarcastic laugh moment, right? I never intend to upgrade past the M-14 ever.
