I thought it was a pump action grenade launcher with a three round tubular magazine which weighs only about half a kg more than the MGL

Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake is where the Navy and Marine Corps have developed or tested nearly every significant airborne weapon system in the past five decades It encompases 1.1 million acres of land in California's upper Mojave Desert. he land, ranging in altitude from 2,100 to 8,900 feet, varies from flat dry lake beds to rugged piñon pine covered mountains. If it could be dropped from navy or marine aircraft it most likely went through R&D and testing there at some point.

All that's known about the Casaba Howitzer* is that it's supposedly a weaponized version of the directed-blast nuclear devices designed for the glorious Project Orion. It's exceedingly unlikely that actual guns were involved.
