Royal Army Uniforms

Series 1A-Mess Dress - The mess dress uniform is worn only on formal occassions. Officers mess dress jackets have arm of service colour on the cuff, lapel, and waistcoat for Brigadier and below, and General Officers wear gold braid for the cuffs and have red velvet lapels and a red waistcoat. Rank insignia is worn on a shoulder braid and cuff braid is worn. Enlisted mess dress has the same system of arm of service colours, however rank is worn on the sleeves. Regimental insignia is worn on the left collar of both officer and enlisted, with arm of service insignia on the right collar. Only full medals and orders are worn.
Series 1B-Service Dress Uniform - The Type 2B is worn as the dress uniform for occassions other than when mess dress is called for. The dress and undress uniforms are nearly identical in cut, except that only the dress has the stand collar and coat belt which is in arm of service colours for Brigadier and below, Gold-braid collar and a solid red belt for General Officers. Ribbons are worn centered over the left breast pocket, and specialist badges are worn over the right breast pocket. Regimental/Unit insignia is worn on the collar and major unit insignia is not worn. Enlisted service stripes are worn on the right cuff, one stripe for each 4 years service. Rank is worn on the epaulets for officers, and sleeves for enlisted. Trousers are dark grey and have a 5cm red stripe for officers, a 2.5cm stripe in arm of service colour for NCO's and no stripe for privates and lance corporals.
Series 2A-Service Undress Uniform - The undress uniform is the everyday garrison uniform. It may also be worn for travel in place of the Series 1B. Placement of awards, badges and service stripes is the same as Series 1B, except major unit insignia is worn on the left sleeve at the shoulder and regimental/unit insignia is worn on the lapels. General Officers have a red lapel tab instead of regimental/unit insignia. Trousers are dark grey and have no stripe. The overcoat, which may be worn with Mess, Dress and Undress uniform, is black and only rank is worn, on the epaulets for officers and the sleeves for enlisted. The officers overcoat has a gold cuff band.
Series 2B-Service Casual Uniform - The service casual uniform is that worn under the 2B coat. It may be either short or long sleeved. The short sleeved shirt, when worn without the coat, may be worn open collared without the tie.
Series 3-Field Uniform - The field uniform consists of a camouflaged jacket and pants. All rank, unit and name badges are subdued. Regimental insignia is not worn except on the beret.

Ceremonial Uniforms of the Royal Guards Regiment

The 1st Battalion (Ceremonial Battalion) of the RGR has special uniforms for wear when on duty. From left to right, 1st Company is the Guard Grenadiers, 2nd Company is The Kings Rifles, 3rd Company is the Household Cavalry and 4th Company is the Guards Artillery. The uniforms are based on those worn in the early 19th century. Officer rank is the shoulder braid worn with the mess dress, enlisted wear their sleeve stripes. Headquarters Company of 1st Battalion, and 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions all wear standard army uniform.

Image

Headgear

The Red beret is the standard headgear for most of the Royal Army. Some noteworthy units have their own colours, the Rangers and Paras have the green beret, the Royal Guards Regiment a buff beret, the 4th Aberdeen Cuirassier a white beret and the Kings Foreign Legion a slate blue beret.

All berets have the unit badge on them, enlisted the standard unit insignia, officers beret badge has a gold wreath and crown around the unit crest.

Image

Officers also have the Service cap which is worn with the Mess Dress, Service Dress and Service Unfress Uniforms. It is mandatory for the first two and optional for the latter, where the beret may be worn instead. The service cap device worn is from the Duchy, Province or Colony the Offcier is from. On the badge for Loannis and Malkier, the unit designation is carried in the scrollwork.

Does nobody here know the difference between enlisted and commissioned ranks? Officers are completely different in the rank scheme to enlisted personnel.

Enlisted Ranks:

Rifleman/Guardsman/... depends on specialism
Lance-Corporal
Corporal
Sergeant
Colour Sergeant/Staff Sergeant (Depends on regiment)
Sergeant Major/Warrant Officer 2nd Class
Regiment Sergeant Major/Warrant Officer 1st Class

Commissioned Ranks:

Officer Cadet
2nd Lieutenant
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Lieutenant-Colonel
Colonel
Brigadier
Major-General
Brigadier-General
Lieutenant-General
General
Marshall
Field/High Marshall

-----

All personnel must apply to a specific regiment/brigade/division/corps if volunteers, and depending on vacancies will either be posted there or to a regiment of the same category. Whiteshield conscripts are automatically allocated regimental positions, depending on their intelligence testing and choice of work.

District Commanders are elected by all militia within a large city or county, and Garrison Chiefs are elected in some communes. Admirals are sometimes appointed to advise the District Commanders.
Each ten-man squad of Militia Corps Marines has (or at least is supposed to have) four FAL riflemen, four RPG grenadiers, and two marksmen.

As far as I understand it, those patches look like they designate specific "jobs" in his military, not regiments.

Maybe not in his nation. I can see where he's coming from. Field Marshal holds an active 'field' command, Marshal holds larger administrative command perhaps, such as Army Chief of Staff.
