Johnny Conrad is still on the loose, unaffiliated.

We had a few in VITAL, but they are pretty much gone now.

That's classified information. We wouldn't want the enemy knowing there's an assassin about, after all.

Assassins are atypical.

If coerce is necessary to solve a situation, the Augarian Defense Force will simply deploy covert units, either with subtlety or in a "black op", which essentially have the same role as assassins (but are trained as fully capable military infantry).

During the medieval era, assassins were a common method of eliminating members of rival families, incompetent Bishops, or unfavorable politicians.

Capitalism is always the answer. Whenever there's a problem in capitalism, you just need some more capitalism. If the solution isn't capitalism, then it's not really a problem. If your capitalism gets damaged, you just need to throw some capitalism on it and get on with your life.

Correction

Assassins are fine works of material for men, it is the person that sent them and if they failed to kill the target (example a Kaidon) that they are dishonorable and are to be killed for failer.

We employ either Black Ops units, special forces units, or CIA agents to perform assassination missions, there are no true assassins.

The preferred method of assassination by our Nation is to send a spy into the target's location undercover, simply to track the target and relay intelligence on their location. We then send in a drone from the Incorporated Aerial Force to eliminate the target; weapon of choice varies from high-caliber bullets to smart bombs, depending on which tool is best for the job and what repercussions might be expected from their use.

That is an extremely unsubtle way of going about things, seeing as the resulting bulletholes and explosions are going to get a lot of questions asked. What's wrong with just having your victim stumble into traffic?

They tend to all look different. There is no Dragon's Claw uniform, they wear whatever they think will work for the mission.

To those calling nations that use assassins cowards... the point of war is to win. We're going to do pretty much whatever makes that happen.

Assassination does not necessitate secrecy, and the more subtle options require the ability to get personally close to the target, which in the case of most political and military figures is unlikely to happen, even in underdeveloped nations. Drones can be quickly dispatched, hit their target, and leave within minutes with no clear evidence of their presence, saving the logistics and expense of sending a trained armed assassin into hostile territory and risking loss or exposure.

We are also very selective about who we mark for death. Most assassinations result in relatively meaningless condemnations from delegates of the World Assembly that receive no real media attention; any mission that might have more extensive consequences is carefully considered against our ability to thwart a counterattack, and dutifully cancelled if the powers against our Nation are too great. This almost never happens, as such cases usually allow for the use of open force against the nation in quesion without fear of intervention from other national powers.
