I think the are pretty much done now, named them Self Laden Gefver 7 and 8 (Self Loading Rifle), added some rails, coloured them and added some details.

They are blowback, like the G3 and the bullpup version is forward ejecting.
The thin part that is also of a different colour on the conventional design is supposed to be a lengthening/shortening of the stock system, where you pull the stock and it becomes shorter or longer.

The only thing I dont like is the FAMAS style handle other wise it's great

This probably has an obvious answer that I've missed, but why the cross on the older one? (I'm guessing that the kneeling one is older.)

They are Jaffa. They are genetically modified from humans to be slave warriors to the Goa'uld. They depend on carrying larval Goa'uld in their abdominal pouches or else they have no immune system and die.

I guess that answers my question about having seemingly unoppressed people in my nation.

Yup. The older one is both tattooed with the emblem of her god-master and has a symbiote pouch. The younger one is neither tattooed or implanted yet. They are all dressed up for a temple festival.

I thought I ought to throw some normal (ish) troops in among all these gun-toting monks and nuns. I'm thinking of a cavalry regiment next, perhaps something along the lines of the now long since disbanded Noble Guard of the Papal States. The only question is whether I should arm them with swords, lances or carbines.
