Ms. Corradi would be examined closely by authorities regarding her personal firearm. She would be required to register it, and then it would be returned to her (since it was a first offense and she is an immigrant, she got off with a warning).

Soon, however, she is recruited by the Tryphalia City Planning Commission and hired as a civil engineer in its building projects. She receives an office in City Hall, a government salary, a pension, benefits, etc. She is shocked by the authoritarian nature of the government, but that's probably due to her politics. Democracy is an alien concept to Tryphalians. She would have had to pass a test to qualify as a colleague (free citizen), and thus allowed to work, but this was waived given her useful education and professional training.

Due to her education/training and the fact that she arrived married and pregnant, Gertrude is given colleague (full citizen) status without having to test for it. Science is one area where the regime overlooks its usual sexism, for the greater good. Also, the government doesn't like to break up families/couples that pre-exist emigration. She, her husband, and any children they might have are given asylum. Both of the adults become colleagues immediately, but are warned against "political agitation", since the regime is a military one. As the government is still figuring out its economic policy, however, some mild advocacy of socialism might be permitted.
