Hresejnen wrote:Full Nation Name: The Tribal Confederate of Hresejnen
Government Type: Representative Direct Democracy
WA Category: Left-Leaning College State
Civil Rights: Superb
Economy: Good
Political Rights: Excellent
How do you view...
War: Necessary for defense and occasionally for an economic boost, but total war is not considered an option, and war frightens most citizens as opposed to galvanizing them.
Diplomacy: Hresejnen has a long history of trade, considering its original barrenness due to overworking land in past centuries. Is now more self-sufficient, but carries on its diplomatic traditions.
Planned economy: Only indirectly, ie funding schools that would produce the necessary specialists.
Militarism: Hresejnen has few but well-trained and -funded of specialists as its "official" army, but citizens are traditionally trained to handle firearms, which are customarily held on a person at all times, serving as formidable militia in the case of war at home.
Xenophobia: We are quite nationalistic, but in the same breath have a keen interest in foreign cultures. Xenophobia at home isn't really an issue due to a lack of immigration.
Religion: No official religion, but Norse paganism is the custom for nearly all citizens and is deeply integrated into our culture. Other groups, including Christians, Muslims and Buddhists exist, but are just slight (though sometimes quite loud) minorities.
Multiculturalism: Official stance of multiculturalism, though realistically there is just one overbearing culture spiced with a few tiny minorities.
Drugs: Legal in the privacy of one's home, though generally looked down upon due to stereotypes surrounding the lack of ambition and work ethic of drug users.
Firearms: Individuals are trained to use various firearms and all keep at least one weapon on their person at all times.
LGBT individuals: Not considered an identity, but rather a choice. Those who are exclusively homosexual are regarded with mild suspicion, but it is not persecuted and such individuals are usually able to make up for their lifestyle, socially, by excelling in other areas. Transsexuals are nearly unheard of due to stigma.
Your opinion on political systems such as...
Monarchy: Hresejnen has a king, but his power is mainly symbolic. He does, however, retain the power to alter the system of government, allocating more real power to himself, but such an act in an unnecessary circumstance has in the past caused popular revolt and a swift reversion to more democratic government.
Fascism: The people are very freedom-loving. Most would take to arms against the state before accepting military rule.
Liberal democracy: Hresejnen prizes its democracy.
Socialism: So-called "equal opportunity" is high on the government's agenda, ensuring that all individuals, despite their heritage and economic circumstances, are able to go where they wish in life. The people have a greater respect for an individual's ambition and past contributions to society than they do for money.
Communism: Some of the smaller and more conservative regions, often those in our few fertile areas used for producing food, could be considered communist, as money and property is shared among individuals and considered to be that of the region. Most regions, however, place more on individual worth.
Minarchism: Due to the varying interests of Hresejnen's politically divided regions, as well as interests in equality, we require a large government. The decision-making process is done directly in ridings consisting of about a thousand people each, but varying by land size as well, which are then given equal weighting. Large councils are held often in each area, usually unofficially, to discuss matters to be brought "to the king", though these are actually routed through the "real" government automatically to all other areas after being designated numbers. People can choose to cast a vote for a matter or withdraw it at any time. When a matter has a majority, it is put into action by the real government, and is canceled if it loses this majority. The government itself controls a sizable police force to monitor the people as the people monitor it, the aforementioned small military, and merely routes taxes to the necessary institutions in exchange for a low or nonexistent direct cost to the public.
Junta: See Fascism.
National-socialism: ...See Fascism.
Anarchy: Considered a possibility, but nationalistic and interregional concerns keep it from becoming a reality.
Which one of these is legal ?
Protests: Legal, though rare. Only those who have a problem with the government system itself, which by its nature cannot be altered democratically, protest, though they are generally ignored by the government and sneered at by the majority at present.
Drugs: Legal, but individuals who are visibly drug users are frowned upon by society.
Alcohol: Legal for all ages. Considered an essential part of our culture.
Smoking: Legal, albeit not in public.
Gay Marriage: Marriage is more of a legal institution than anything else, for property rights and availability of certain services. People are expected to marry, for the nation's stability. Official gay marriage is illegal, though most religious and other institutions will perform such marriages off the record.
Gay Pride: Something rarely seen, as homosexuality is rarely, if ever, considered a part of an individual's identity.
Religious attire: Gothar wear symbols of their faith, and usually appropriate robes, in their day to day life. Regular individuals can also occasionally be seen to wear the occasional symbol. Symbols of minority religions are legal, even encouraged officially, and most individuals are more curious of them than suspicious.
Your view on Hypparchia: You're one of those nations whom our citizens point to and say, "SEE? This is what will happen if we continue raising our taxes!" You are, however, a likely trade partner.
