It is a quasi-democratic hybrid of presidential, parliamentary, and federal republics. 8)

We have a Parliament overseen by a governor. Now there's two things you probably thought you'd never hear together.

The Socialist Republic of Genivar is ruled over by the High Council. A group of elected officials who make the decisions. (Think the United States Congress but with only 12 councilors) There is no president or prime minister, there is only the High Councilor elected by the council from amongst them.
In case of forum argument, I'm on the side of the Socialists.
I am a far-left social libertarian.

But guess what – your religious wars, jihads, crusades, inquisitions, censoring of free speech, brainwashing of children, murdering of albinos, forcing girls into underage marriages, female genital mutilation, stoning, pederasty, homophobia, and rejection of science and reason offends me. So I guess we’re even.” - Mike Treder

Government type: Meritocratic Feudal Monarchy
-The High Power-
Executive: Grand Duke, leader of state, and military
Grand Duchess, same power as the duke
The High Ministers of State: 4 ---- The bloodline Prince (Count by birth, made be Duke one day but not guaranteed. All Minister's families must live within the Duke's palace grounds
-Minister of Order (courts, elected by patricii, has a term of 8 years)
-Minister of the Populace (social issues, civil rights, elected by popular vote - Patricii are banned from this post to limit corruption, has a term of 8 years)
-Minister of War (Military Advisor, elected by High Command, second only to the Duke's control of the army, has a term of 4 years with only Dukes approval of reinstatement)
-Minister of the Treasury (economist appointed by the Duke, serves until dismissed or resignation)

All Minister's families must live within the Duke's palace grounds with guards appointed by the Duke personally. All decisions made by a minister must be approved by the Grand Duke.

-Nobility-
Patricii: The Nobility of Vindicaria, these are the ones who elect the next Duke, one of them may also become Grand Duke.

There are several thousands of Patricii (land owners with noble bloodlines, appointed by the Duke, Prince, or popular delegation, or military rank)

Patricii have no legal power technically other than the right to elect a new Duke (after the other has resigned or died)

The Counts: Part of the Patricii that have been chosen by their brethren to be the possible heirs of the throne. (capped at 100)
High Command: The Military high command has like every soldier sworn an oath of loyalty to the Duke (not taken lightly). The High Command's only legal power is defense, and carrying out the Dukes orders whatever they may be. The High Command can only deploy troops with the Dukes approval. They also elect one of their own to be the Minister of War.

The Makaarian government in its present form was organised after a bloodless coup d'état by the current Prime Minister, Arran Hewell. It is a totally centralised representative democracy and constitutional monarchy - no local governments exist and are banned by the Constitution to ensure equality and prevent so-called "postcode lotteries" where the privileges you can enjoy depend on your location.

The legislature is divided into two houses, the elected House of Commons and the appointed House of Lords. The House of Commons is elected by the people every four years, with every party receiving a certain number of seats in proportion to the number of votes it receives nationally. All bills originate in the House of Commons where they are debated and voted on, and passed by a simple majority. They are then sent to the House of Lords, made up of members appointed by the Independent Lords Appointment Commission, which rewards Makaarians who have made significant contributions to their fields such as healthcare, law, government etc. and are regarded as experts in their field. Here, the Speaker will determine which committee to send the bill to - bills are always sent to a committee of Lords whose specialism is the content of the bill. Here, it is examined in hearings, and if passed at committee, the entire House of Lords will debate the bill before voting on it. If it is rejected, either in committee or on the House floor, it is sent back to the House of Commons with a list of objections and recommendations. If it is passed, it is sent to the King to be signed into law.

The executive is de facto led by the King, but most of his executive powers are exercised by a Prime Minister, who is appointed by the King. The King is legally required to appoint the leader of the largest party in the House of Commons as Prime Minister, and the Prime Minister will choose a cabinet, with other members of the party being chosen by his party to fill those now-vacant seats in the legislature (the Prime Minister is normally chosen from amongst the legislators, but once appointed does not sit in the legislature). He and his cabinet are responsible for leading the Civil Service. The King signs bills into law on the recommendation of the Prime Minister; the King may also, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, provide a Royal Veto, but this may be overridden by a two-thirds majority in both Houses of the Assembly.

The judiciary, it is often observed, is where much power in the Makaarian government lies. The Supreme Court is appointed by the Independent Judicial Appointments Commission and is made up of 9 judges. The Supreme Court may render laws null and void through its judgements by declaring them to be unconstitutional, or against the Makaarian Bill of Rights, the document which secures the human rights of all residents of Makaar.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.
Makaar is ranked 272nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs (per capita).
Makaar is ranked 408th in the world for Nicest Citizens.

The Constitutional and Grand Principality of Carpathosylvania is governed by the Grand Prince through His interpretation of the constitution, mirroring Western-style constitutional parlimentary monarchys.
