Domestic Propaganda In Your Nation

OOC: We've had a military recruitment propaganda thread, so why not one for for the civvies?

Propaganda in Wolohanistan is created by the Ministry of Profound Truths so that vital information can be distributed to the people.

Image
This piece is an example of modern Wolohanistani propaganda. It references a quote made by the Wolohanistani hero Kraal'pmol Muurdagh - "We have only prevailed when the skulls of our enemies adorn our pikes". As you can see, victory has been achieved! The skulls in the picture are actually ancient Wolohanistani runes and are still prevalent in Wolohanistan today, especially in the tattoos of the Tuuskav tribes.

Here is an example of contemporary propaganda distributed in the early 1920s, when the United Wolohanistani Tribes began their long military campaign to oust the petty Warlords that had claimed Wolohanistan as their own. In 1925 the UWT prevailed and The Armed Republic of Wolohanistan was formed.

We have no need to resort to domestic propoganda.

Define "propaganda". We tell our people that murder is bad and that stealing is wrong - is that propaganda? To us, no, but to an anarchist, yes.

(Of course anarchists also, for the most part, believe that murder is bad, but by virtue of the fact that these edicts come from a government and are intended to preserve the power of the government, anarchists would consider it propaganda)

If you have to tell your people that murder is wrong, propaganda is the least of your worries.

In Fatatatutti, the people tell the government what to do. They're pretty unlikely to rely on the government as a source of information.

With the number of information sources available today, any government would have to do some pretty serious censorship to control what gets to the people.

We do not censor any source of Information in Wolohanistan, information provided by the government is something the populace can choose to ignore or acknowledge. Partly, all the propaganda and banners are for decoration as Wolohanistani architecture is typically plain and utilitarian. If is is embellished, it is only with geometric patterns.

Our people are smart enough to know the facts when they see them and we trust them to make responsible decisions based on the facts. As Grand Councilor Firinos Aniki said: "You are all free people. As free people you must take responsibility for your decisions. Why would I make it harder for you to make responsible decisions by hiding the facts under a mountain of propaganda?"

Aside from political campaign ads every five years that have to comply with our truth in advertising laws (you will not find outright lies or mudslinging in our political ads, but they can "spin" the truth a bit, but not too much...), recruiting ads for the armed forces, and public service announcements, there is not much propaganda. And since our government is obliged to be transparent with citizens being able to ask any politician for a full accounting of their job at any time (kept on a public database that requires a citizen ID code to access, certain data is omitted if it will interfere with OPSEC of a current operation but once the operation is completed it must be mentioned on the public record) it is very hard for propaganda to actually lie.

"Ihne Uberintel Oros"

Augarian: "His All-Knowing Eye"

Socialist-era propaganda emphasized the power of the "Great Lidless Eye"; with the 'death' of the Catholic God during the Scarlet Coup of 1922, in which the socialists took power (by murdering the royal family), the vacuum of godlessness resulted in the apotheosis of a new deity. The state. The government of the Communist Imperial Reich of Augarundus was crowned the new god of all existence: its lidless, all-seeing, forever-burning eye watched vengefully over the proletariat, crushing all who opposed the glorious Reich.

Strangely enough "communist" posters rarely if ever, utilized the sickle-and-hammer reference. Kriktoffianism, the philosophy of the Augarian socialist, Alexander Kriktoff, did not regard the proletariat as a meaningful force in a socialist society. Rather, the idea of centralized, state-power was the focus of Kriktoffian Socialism, and the Great Eye was the embodiment of state authority.

"Free"

Augarian: "Free"

Though Otto Vitali himself did not produce the "Free" poster, and he condemned state-sponsored propaganda (he was a laissez-faire capitalist) the international movement of *Vitalism, the ideology denoted, but not created, to Otto Vitali, designed and produced the Free poster on a massive scale. The rejection of tyranny, and acceptance of the dignity of man, was a movement that sprung from Augarundus to have international significance. Free, having the same meaning in Augarian and English, was the "New Augarian" ideal.

*Otto Vitali on Vitalism:

"This is not Vitalism. This is freedom." - Otto Vitali

A brief military poster was produced in Augarundus, though it was deemed unconstitutional as a form of propaganda.

Propaganda is spread through radio, television, newspapers, and billboards/posters.
Frequents topics of Gordonisian propaganda are:

2. The evils of Communism
3. The power of Nazism
4. The competence of the Chancellor

What would we gain from it? We'd just be waisting our money, money that should go towards radioing the truth.

We have domestic propaganda such as many statues of the Kaiser,as well as many large building sized posters of the Emperor, and that of House Brightonburg.

The Emperor utilizes a large amount of domestic propaganda on a day to day basis. All radio stations and TV stations are controlled by the government. They broadcast state approved messages and state approved news. Also, they feature religious messages from prominent clergy of the Cult of Pahuus, the Empire's state religion. Finally, His Excellency Emperor Gordon II delivers a weekly radio and TV address to the masses.

Most peacetime domestic propoganda is just posters telling citizens to get back to work.

We use propaganda posters, videos, and video games to appeal to potential recruits. The two most popular propaganda poster forms are a poster similar to the famous Lord Kitchener poster, with a portrait of Commander-in-Chief David Santorez pointing to the reader and the caption says "Your kind and country need you, enlist today!", the other is based on the old Land Before Time posters (because a lot of Saurisian youth grew up watching Land Before Time and other Dinosaur-themed TV shows and animated movies, so it's very familiar to us) with David Santorez standing over the main characters, pointing towards a large army on the other side of the canyon, and the caption reads "Defend your land and kinds, kids, do NOT let the filthy Human scum destroy your species, enlist now!"

We also have propaganda designed to convince the people to "NOT let the filthy Human scum pass!" and "Do whatever it takes to destroy the Human Supremacist filth!".

((I'll upload some posters once I draw them, scan them, and upload them onto Photobucket.

We have no domestic propaganda, all forms of advertising is strictly forbidden.

Mostly stories and pamphlets about the affected peoples or the soldiers. A notable one was the "True Stories" by Mr.John Mandrake during the First World War, the only reason that the Fedeledlandians didn't resign when it's allies left the war and it's enemies disembarked on the South of Spain
