Abortion: Legal

Gun control: Essentially non-existent
GLBT rights: Available and protected
Equal rights for women: Available and protected
Drugs: Highly illegal
Alcohol: Highly frowned upon and considered disgraceful, but not illegal due to an oversight. Alcohol tax exceeds 900%, and we manage to get away with it, too.

Interspecies relationships: Dogs and such? Firm no. Nekomimi and the like? Sure, but good luck finding any!
National healthcare: No
Free education through college level: The remnants of a public school system still exist, but most everything's private. Fear not, though, for there are discount schools for the poor, and corporations are always offering scholarships to promising, talented children.

Economic stances

Free trade: Strongly support
Fair trade: Completely indifferent
Taxes: Virtually nonexistent
Corporations: They're everywhere, they wield considerable infulence, they're permitted to possess their own paramilitary forces, and the very largest essentially run the country on behalf of the Emperor.
Unions: Nonexistent
Workers' cooperatives: Extremely rare
Workers' rights: ...Well, some more progressive corporations pay their employees a living wage and still manage to make a healthy profit, but... no, not really.

The Altani take on Swilatia politically: The fact that Swilatia is a capitalist state would be viewed positively by the Altani, as would their stance against fascism, autocracy and communism. However, their anti-theocratic and anti-monarchial views would irritate and trouble most Altani, as many of the individual nations that make up the Federation are either theocracies or monarchies. The fact that Swilatia is a republic would also be of concern, as the one experiment in republicanism in Altani history is currently ending very badly. Overall, the Federation and its people would view Swilatia with mixed emotions, and diplomatic relations would be cordial, but hardly warm.

The Altani take on Swilatia socially: More mixed emotions. The Swilatian stance on drugs, alcohol, gun control, GLBT rights and assisted suicide would win points among the Altani, but the refusal to provide national healthcare and education would be seen as counterproductive and callous. The Swilatian acceptance of abortion would also be seen very negatively, and the non-militaristic, pacifist stance would be a cause of scorn. Again, cordial but hardly warm relations.

The Altani take on Swilatia economically: This is the one area where the Altani would probably get along best with Swilatians. Support for free trade is always appreciated by the Altani, and Altani businesses would eagerly pursue trade with Swilatia, especially given the country's penchant for low taxes.

Overall Altani view on Swilatia: Not such a bad nation, but not such a good one either.

Workers' cooperatives: Business owners can institute worker cooperatives if they wish.
Workers' rights: We have extensive rights for workers.

The Altani take on Maraque politically: Other than the stance on republicanism, the Altani would find much in common with Maraque politically. A constitutional monarchy, coupled with regulated, civilized capitalism, would be appreciated and admired by the Altani, as many of the Federation's states follow a similar path. The only sticking point would be the distaste for theocracy, since one of the Altani states is a theocracy. But for the most part, the Altani would probably get along very well with Maraque politically, and share similar policy goals.

The Altani take on Maraque socially: The Altani would probably find much to admire in Maraquean society as well. The pacifist and non-militarist stance, along with the opposition to nationalism, would be an issue, since the Altani tend to be militarist and nationalist in outlook. Abortion would also be an issue. However, the Maraquean tolerance for diversity would play very well, since the Altani are a very diverse society. The provision of civil rights legislation, national healthcare options and public education for all would also be admired by the Altani, since the Federation follows a similar path.

The Altani take on Maraque economically: Mostly compatible with the Altani economic outlook, although fair trade is looked upon as slightly nuts in a harmless hippie sort of way.

Overall Altani view on Maraque: A civilized and admirable society worth pursuing relations with....now if they could just be convinced to drop some of their more liberal ideas...

The Altani take on Tfelistan politically: The Altani would be very wary of Tfelistan politically. Communist ideology is viewed as akin to suggesting that the government legislate the eating of one's children with a nice wine for dinner, and as a result, relations between the Federation and Tfelistan would be civil, but distant and a touch cool at best. The Altani would probably watch Tfelistan to ensure that no efforts are made to spread communist ways to the Federation.

The Altani take on Tfelistan socially: Mixed bag at best - the Altani would appreciate the Tfelistan stance on civil rights and diversity, but would most likely disagree vehemently with the Tfelistani on almost everything else. The Altani would probably view Tfelistan's society with a slight touch of pity, as being misguided in many ways.

The Altani take on Tfelistan economically: This would be the biggest area of disagreement. The Altani would view the Tfelistani approach to the economy as hopelessly backward, counterintuitive and wrongheaded. There would be little, if any, trade between the two nations.

Overall Altani view on Tfelistan: Some good ideas, but they're buried under a commie mishmash. Overall, a dangerously naive society in some need of reality.

The Altani take on Zeppy politically: The Altani would find themselves quite uncomfortable with the Zeppy views towards monarchies, theocracies and republicanism. Other than that, the Altani would share similar views, and the political relations between the two states would be cordial, but with a slight touch of wariness on the Altani side.

The Altani take on Zeppy socially: The Altani would view the Zeppy stance towards militarism and nationalism as slightly misguided and naive. The issue of abortion would also be a concern. However, for the most part, the Altani would find themselves comfortable with Zeppy society, and average citizens from Zeppy would probably find themselves treated in a friendly and warm manner in the Federation.

The Altani take on Zeppy economically: Despite the support for fair trade, mostly compatible with Altani views. The Altani would view the Zeppy stance on the economy as a well-reasoned and sound one, and would probably be eager to maintain strong trade relations.

Overall Altani view on Zeppy: Not a bad nation at all, for the most part. We just need to convince them that monarchies aren't all bad.

The Altani take on Old Thurask politically: Pretty much evil incarnate. The Altani would view Old Thurask extremely negatively for their views on capitalism and monarchies, and would view the people of Old Thurask with contempt for allowing themselves to be ruled over by an autocrat. There would be little, if any, common ground for the two nations to find, and relations would be either extremely cold or nonexistent.

The Altani take on Old Thurask socially: The society of Old Thurask would be viewed by the Altani as a blight on humanity, and the Altani would fervently pray for its eventual collapse and disintegration, so that a more humane order could prevail for the unfortunate people stuck in such a Gods-cursed and benighted nation.

The Altani take on Old Thurask economically: One of the most bass-ackward economies the Altani would have ever encountered, the Old Thurask economy would be used in Altani finance courses as an example of exactly what to avoid.

Overall Altani view on Old Thurask: Wow, these people must've done something to piss the Gods off.

The Altani take on Thurask politically: While the Altani would agree with the Thurask take on communism, and agree that there need to be at least some limits on capitalism, everything else would be up for debate. Lumping monarchies and theocracies in with autocracies would irritate the Altani to a degree, but overall, the Altani would be able to have at least civil and cordial relations with Thurask.

The Altani take on Thurask socially: The Altani would appreciate the Thurask support for national healthcare and education, and their mostly tolerant stance towards diversity. The stance on militarism would amuse the Altani, and the somewhat prudish attitude towards alcohol and drugs would provide more amusement. The Altani would not be as amused with the Thurask stance towards abortion. Overall, the Thurask society would be seen as tolerable, but needing improvement.

The Altani take on Thurask economically: The idea of checking free trade, and the support of fair trade, not to mention the checking of corporations, would be seen by the Altani as counterproductive and uncompetitive. The Thurask economy would probably be regarded as being unnecessarily hobbled by the Altani.

Overall Altani view on Thurask: A halfway decent and tolerable nation, but not one that the Altani would overly admire or seek to emulate.

Economic stances

Workers' cooperatives: Strongly Support
Workers' rights: Strongly Support

The Altani take on Iduan politically: The Iduan support for communism and socialism, and their distaste for theocracies, would leave the Altani feeling pretty distant and cold towards Iduan. Their opposition to capitalism would only further the divide. Iduan would be a nation that the Altani would regard as peripheral at best, worthy of civil relations but hardly any great effort.

The Altani take on Iduan socially: The nationalistic and militaristic outlook of Iduan would normally please the Altani, but since it would be bent towards communism, it would instead alarm them greatly. While the Altani would like the Iduan stance on civil rights, diversity, education and healthcare, pretty much every other social stance of Iduan would annoy the Altani. The Altani would view Iduan similar to Tfelistan, another society that may mean well but is gravely misguided.

The Altani take on Iduan economically: Opposition to corporations, support for fair trade, and support for unions would annoy the Altani greatly. The unfair taxation system would also be viewed with irritation. Overall, the Altani would view Iduan's economy as backwards and unfriendly to innovation and entrepreneurship. Most Altani would be very reluctant to invest in, or trade with, Iduan.

Overall Altani view on Iduan: Another once-promising nation led by red ideology at full speed - backwards.

Nation's unofficial name: New Ziedrich
Nation's official name: The Technocratic Imperium of New Ziedrich

Political stances

Socialism: Opposed
Communism: Opposed
Capitalism: Strongly support
Autocracy: Strongly support
Fascism: Opposed to indifferent
Monarchy: Support
Democracy: Opposed
Republicanism: Opposed
Theocracy: Opposed

Social stances

Abortion: Legal
Civil rights: ...Moderate?
Gun control: Essentially non-existent
GLBT rights: Available and protected
Equal rights for women: Available and protected
Drugs: Highly illegal
Alcohol: Highly frowned upon and considered disgraceful, but not illegal due to an oversight. Alcohol tax exceeds 900%, and we manage to get away with it, too.
Assisted suicide: Legal
Green energy: Not a priority, unless you consider nuclear green; if so, the full steam ahead!
Militarism: Encouraged
Nationalism: Encouraged
Pacifism: Somewhat respeted, but generally discouraged
The environment: Not a priority
Whaling: Not a concern
Racism/xenophobia: Very strongly discouraged
Other (i.e. non-human) species: Generally accepted, though none are native to New Ziedrich, and very few reside here.

The Altani take on New Ziedrich politically: The New Ziedrich stances towards autocracy and theocracies would probably be a source of irritation for the Altani. In every other way, however, the Altani would find themselves highly aligned with New Ziedrich in terms of politics, and would probably view New Ziedrich as a mostly well-run nation with a similar outlook and policy goals, and one worth considering for closer relations.

The Altani take on New Ziedrich socially: The Altani would consider the New Ziedrich stance on healthcare and education counterproductive, and would probably encourage them to change their mind on such matters. The Altani would also consider the New Ziedrich stance on drugs and alcohol to be silly and prudish, but would politely refrain from pointing that out too much. In all other social matters, New Ziedrich would again seem to be a very similar society to the Federation, and the Altani would be very comfortable with New Ziedrich. People from New Ziedrich would probably be well-treated in the Federation, as long as they didn't go on anti-drug or anti-alcohol sprees.

The Altani take on New Ziedrich economically: The Altani would consider it dangerous for a government or society to allow corporations to take as much control as they seem to have in New Ziedrich. That being said, New Ziedrich and the Federation would have very compatible economic stances. The Altani would no doubt be quite happy to trade with New Ziedrich, and vice versa.

Overall Altani view on New Ziedrich: For the most part, these are our kind of people.

Workers' cooperatives: If they can compete and not get bought out...
Workers' rights: Same rights as anyone else.

The Altani take on Kreanoltha politically: The anti-monarchy and anti-theocracy stance of Kreanoltha would be an issue, but the Altani would find the Kreanolthan stance on politics highly compatible in most other ways. The Altani would especially agree concerning democracy, which has developed a bad reputation of late in the Federation. And any society that has a "Capitalism Day" holiday would definitely be on the same wavelength as the Altani politically. The Altani would have no problem with having diplomatic relations with Kreanoltha, assuming the Kreanolthans could tolerate the confusing mishmash of monarchies, theocracies and representative republics that make up the Federation.

The Altani take on Kreanoltha socially: The Kreanolthan stance on education and healthcare would puzzle the Altani, who view a well-educated and healthy workforce as essential to building a productive and successful nation and society. National healthcare and education are seen by the Altani as an investment in their society and workforce, and any society vehemently opposed to such programs would strike the Altani as a bit, well, confused. In most other areas, however, the Altani would find quite a bit of commonality with the Kreanolthans. The Altani also allow drugs and alcohol, and only punish people for the crimes they commit under the influence (although that rarely leads to execution in the Federation). The Kreanolthan stances on civil rights, gun control, green energy, the environment and whaling, militarism, and nationalism would also win high praise among the Altani. Overall, Kreanolthan society would be seen as mostly sensible, pragmatic and well-thought-out.

The Altani take on Kreanoltha economically: The Altani love free trade, don't like taxes, have a fondness for corporations, and are firm belivers in competition and survival of the fittest. They would thus find themselves in almost complete agreement with the Kreanolthans concerning economic policy, with the notable exception of unions.

Overall Altani view on Kreanoltha: A few strange ideas, but overall, these people have the right idea.

Workers' cooperatives: The best kind of buisness.
Workers' rights: Absolutely nescessary!

The Altani take on Rustonia politically: There are almost no circumstances under which the Altani could find common ground with the Rustonians. Rustonian attitudes concerning capitalism, monarchies and theocracies would infuriate the Altani, and the communist stance of the Rustonians would only serve to deepen the divide. If there were any relations between the Altani and the Rustonians at all, they would be extremely cold and distant. More likely, there would be no relations at all, and the Altani would watch any Rustonians in the Federation with extreme scrutiny for fear they would become rabblerousers.

The Altani take on Rustonia socially: Their stances on most social issues would actually make sense to the Altani. However, the idea that nationalism "is an infantile disease" would meet with the utmost scorn, and the Rustonian attitude concerning abortion would disgust most Altani.

The Altani take on Rustonia economically: The idea that fair trade is superior to free trade would make most Altani laugh until their sides hurt, and the idea that unions and the word "honest" should be in the same sentence together would make them laugh even harder. The only thing the Altani would likely agree with the Rustonians about economically would be cooperatives, which the Altani view as a reasonable and viable alternative to corporations.

Overall Altani view on Rustonia: Scary commies whose few good ideas are hard to find in the mountainous haystack of their bad ones.

The Altani take on MLP socially: Mostly tolerant and approving, although the MLP stance on abortion would be a source of bother, and the stance on militarism and nationalism would be a source of slight contempt.

The Altani take on MLP economically: No taxes? No corporations? No free trade? Are you lobsters trying to wreck your economy?

Nation's unofficial name: Bears Armed
Nation's official name: The Confederated Clans of the Free Bears of Bears Armed

Political stances

Socialism: Too coercive for our liking... (OOC: Bears are expected to pay 'contributions' to their own Clan's "Combined Fund", which probably does finance some 'welfare' and might own holdings in some businesses, but that's generally seen IC as more of an 'extended family' matter than a 'government' one and the Fund's managers are often separate from the Clan's leaders for other matters...)
Communism: It doesn't really work above the 'family' level, does it?
Capitalism: Okay (OOC: Bears Armed's economy is actually rather more 'rustic' and not quite as extensively developed as the game mechanics suggest, and so the country's 'free market' economy doesn't yet contain much in the way of large-scale 'capitalism'...)
Autocracy: Bears aren't that easily led, or pushed around...
Fascism: Bears aren't that easily led, or pushed around...
Monarchy: We had one of those once; It worked okay, most of the time, but we don't really need one nowadays; Oh, did you mean 'absolute' monarchy? Bears aren't that easily led, or pushed around...
Democracy: The obvious, and best, way of coordinating people's activities
Republicanism: Please define this term further,as far as the context of this questionaire is concerned, because I can think of five or six possible meanings for it and the general Ursine opinions towards each of these differ...
Theocracy: We respect religion, but generally (except in two or three of the Clans, anyhows) keep it separate from government; if other people are happier with the idea then that [in itself] doesn't bother us.

Social stances

Abortion: Emergencies only, which is a culturally-engrained attitude due to a relatively low birth-rate
Civil rights: Which ones? Normally "Anything not prohibited is permitted..."
Gun control: You should learn how to handle a gun properly before you start using it unsupervised, and there are some people who really shouldn't be trusted with weapons, but otherwise "An armed society is a polite society".
GLBT rights: Not really an issue here, because Ursines (who are c.95% of the population) seem to be innately heterosexual and so do some of our country's other peoples too.
Equal rights for women: Taken for granted
Drugs: Just don't cause any accidents, or serious incidents (but 'hard' drugs in the RL sense aren't known here yet, so we''re basically talking about some fairly mild herbs & fungi...)
Alcohol: Few restrictions generally, just don't cause any accidents or serious incidents...
Assisted suicide: attitudes vary from clan to clan
Green energy: we use a mixture of energy sources, and although vehicles tend to run on fossil fuels the [relatively few] large power-plants that we possess (outside of the SmithFolk's freeholds, anyway, we don't know how they run those...) tend to be either hydroelectric or -- more rarely -- geothermal.
Militarism: only when we need to defend ourselves against serious enemies
Nationalism: We're only quite loosely a 'nation' in the first place...
Pacifism: And what happens when you -- or I -- get threatened? Not a very common trait in Ursines...
The environment: What we live in? Keep it nice, as much as is practical, and don't eliminate anything that might turn out to be useful.
Whaling: Some of the Northlands clans do this, but they make sure they aren't hunting sapient whales and in fact some of them have alliance with the local Orca populations.
Racism/xenophobia: This happens sometimes, especially towards groups who have been threats to Ursinity in the past, but (except for a general & deeply-rooted hostility towards the Chaos-tainted...) isn't widely established
Other (i.e. non-human) species: "Ahem!" (Generally a case of 'live and let live', and there are members of several such species as minority groups within Bears Armed... and the same applies to our attitude towards Humans, although with wariness quite common in the case of groups that haven't yet proven themselves to be friendly, too...)
Interspecies relationships: "Eeuck! Chaos!" (They are not at all frequent here, and would normally face strong disapproval...)
National healthcare: Not a matter for 'national' policy, Clan policies vary.
Free education through college level: Not a matter for 'national' policy, Clan policies vary.

Economic stances

Free trade: Of course
Fair trade: If you aren't fair then why would they trade with you, rather than with somebody else?
Taxes: We don't like the idea, too coercive
Corporations: Legal, no problem (and, as I've already said, not as prevalent as is the case in many RL nations... I'm presuming here that what you mean by 'corporations' is actually 'big business'', yes?)
Unions: Legal but uncommon, most Bears prefer to sort matters out for themsleves
Workers' cooperatives: Legal, probably contain more people overall than the Unions do, normally involve relatives rather than otherwise-unconnected individuals
Workers' rights: You have the right to apply for a job, you have the right to leave any job, everything else is generally negotiable (although some particular Clans do have more rules)

Clarification:
1/. All of the sapient 'Ursines' effectively comprise one single species, even though different stocks of them have 'awakened' from differing species of pre-sapient bears.
2/. Although some biologists might classify the 'TrueBears' (who are much less anthropomorphic in form that typical Ursines, are extremely long-lived and have some inherent other differences from the rest of us too) as a separate species those [rare] relationships that have taken place between TrueBears and standard Ursines have revealed that these two peoples are mutually interfertile and so that point is definitely arguable... and the TrueBears are so highly respected by public opinion amongst [the much more numerous] mainstream Ursines that relationships with them do not face that disapproval...
(OOC: They're basically our equivalent of 'Elves', and the only one of them that I'm admitting any outsiders have met is the national football team's mascot who -- because I run the Bears' football teams on a '4 years per World Cup' timescale -- won't actually be revealing his existence in that way until quite a few years after the country's "current date" for WA/diplomatic/political matters...)
3/. It is also arguable whether the 'Hwa' (i.e. anthropomorphic Giant Pandas) belong to the 'Ursine' species or to a separate -- although obviously related -- one. Relationships between Ursines and Hwa are not entirely unknown within the only Clan that actually has any Hwa members, and are generally viewed as acceptable there, but seem to be inevitably infertile and are subject to some disapproval by members of other clans.
