The Global Human Heritage Association extends gratitude to those who complete this survey. Each respondent will be scored on two factors. Firstly, prevalence of diversity, which will evaluate the extent to which the population is diverse. Secondly, respect for diversity, which will score the extent to which governing authorities permit, cherish, and respect diverse people groups. For the first measure, a score of 0 will represent near-total homogeneity and a score of 100 will represent near-total heterogeneity. For the second measure, a score of 0 will represent total disregard for human diversity and a score of 100 will represent complete respect for and maximum effort to protect human diversity.

NEWS

21st September, 2026: Version 1.0.0 of the International Demographic Diversity Survey has been issued.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

As an OOC note, a perfect score of 0 or 100 will be nearly unattainable. The totalitarian regimes of Nazi Germany and North Korea would score in the single-digits for both prevalence diversity and respect for it. The most ethnically and linguistically diverse country in the world per Fearon is Uganda, which only scores 0.93 and 0.92 respectively, while the most religiously diverse country is South Africa, scoring 0.86. Fearon's methodology is not being reproduced 1:1, hence my desire to not provide any scores of zero despite being present in Fearon's report. The practical limits for "respect for diversity" will be in the 90s, replicating various scores such as those provided by the Government Restrictions Index, World Values Survey, Gender Inequality Index, and other reports that try to measure things such as racism, LGBT freedom, gender equality, and so on.

My scores will NOT follow a set formula, but attempt to follow guidelines I have established to ensure a largely consistent scoring. I apologise if this is not sufficient for some.

  • Alinghi, the Federal-Democratic Republic of: 87/100; 85/100
  • Anocratic Empire: 50/100; 37/100
  • China, The Republic of: 76/100; 64/100
  • Donistan, the Presidential Republic of: 76/100; 72/100

Basic Information

Full Name of Country: The Alpine Republic of Tyrol
Authority responsible for providing this information: National Statistical Office of Tyrol (Statistik Tirol)
Population: 1,723,196

Age

What percentage of the population are under 18?: Approximately 17.5%
What percentage of the population are over 60?: Approximately 27%
What is the rate of infant mortality?: Approximately 2.5 deaths per 1,000 live births
What is the life expectancy?: Approximately 83.1 years
Does legislation exist to protect the social welfare of the young and old?: Yes
Aside from pensions and child protection, are there any age-based positive discrimination schemes?: Yes. These include reduced public transport fares, subsidised cultural and recreational access, youth employment programmes, senior housing assistance and age-targeted healthcare programmes.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on age?: Yes

Sex

What is the male to female ratio?: Approximately 49.4% male to 50.6% female
Is there an imbalance in the workforce among the sexes?: Yes, although it is relatively minor. Men have a somewhat higher full-time employment rate and are disproportionately represented in engineering, construction, manufacturing and the armed forces, while women are more strongly represented in healthcare, education and some public-sector occupations.
Is there an imbalance in education among the sexes?: No significant overall imbalance. Women slightly outnumber men in higher education, while men remain more strongly represented in engineering and technical programmes.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on sex?: Yes
Does legislation exist to provide for sex-based positive discrimination schemes?: Yes. Limited positive-action measures may be used where one sex is demonstrably underrepresented, although Tyrol does not operate a broad system of mandatory sex-based quotas.

Location

What is the rural-to-urban population ratio?: Approximately 39% rural to 61% urban
What percentage of the working population lives within a thirty minute commute of their place of work?: Approximately 74%
What percentage of the population lives in a "remote area", defined as being more than two hours from the nearest urban centre by car?: Approximately 2%
Is the internal migration of the non-criminal, citizen population legally restricted?: No

Sexuality and Gender Identity

What percentage of the population is transgender?: Approximately 0.7%
What percentage of the population identifies with the label "LGBTQIA+": Approximately 9%
Are homosexual acts legal?: Yes
Are same-sex unions legally permitted in any way? Yes. Marriage is legally available to couples without distinction as to sex. Marriages may be solemnised through either a civil or authorised religious ceremony, with both creating the same legal marital status. This replaced the previous law which held marriages and civil unions as legally identical but distinct statuses.
Is gender reassignment surgery legal?: Yes
If gender identity exists as a legal concept, can citizens legally register a change of gender?: Yes
What percentage of the population supports the legality of same-sex unions?: Approximately 80%. In the 2013 national referendum on same-sex marriage, 68.4% voted in favour; public support has continued to increase since legalisation.

Are all religions treated equally under the law?: Yes
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on religion?: Yes

Additional Questions

Does a public body to observe, regulate, or otherwise handle religious matters exist?: No dedicated religious-affairs authority exists. Matters such as registration, taxation, charitable status, education and legal compliance are handled by the ordinary government authorities responsible for those fields.
Describe the extent of interreligious cohesion:: High. Serious sectarian conflict is rare and organised religion has little direct influence over national politics. Social tensions occasionally arise around immigration, Islam and the changing cultural role of Christianity, but these generally remain social or political disputes rather than sustained religious conflict.
Describe the extent to which religion is geographically concentrated: Roman Catholic identification is strongest in rural valleys, smaller towns and among older residents. Innsbruck, Bozen and other urban centres have higher rates of irreligion and contain most of the country's Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish and other minority religious communities.

Language

How many official languages exist at a national level?: 1

Ladin cultural and linguistic protections derive from the autonomous status of Ladinia rather than from preferential treatment based on ethnicity.

Additional Questions

Describe the current status of ethnic or national cohesion:: National cohesion is generally high, with a strong common Tyrolean civic identity existing alongside regional identities. Relations between the Tyrolean-Germanic majority and the Ladin population are stable, with Ladinia possessing extensive cultural and linguistic autonomy. The position of the Italian population is considerably more controversial. Italian residents and citizens enjoy the same individual protection against discrimination as everyone else, including protection based on ethnicity, nationality and language, but Italians receive no special minority status, autonomous institutions, reserved political representation, guaranteed Italian-language education or collective language rights. This remains politically contentious because of the circumstances surrounding the 1996 South Tyrol Uprising, the incorporation of South Tyrol and the subsequent decline of the Italian-speaking population.
What percentage of the population adhere to "racist" and/or "xenophobic" beliefs?: Approximately 8-10%, although the figure varies considerably according to the definition and wording used.

What percentage of the population have debts at least 50% of the average yearly wage?: Approximately 25%, principally due to mortgages and other substantial long-term household borrowing
The average yearly wage of the poorest subdivision (GDP per capita PPP) is what percentage of the average yearly wage of the wealthiest subdivision?: Approximately 84%
Does legislation exist to prohibit discrimination based on socioeconomic background?: Not as a general protected characteristic. Public authorities are prohibited from arbitrary discrimination and certain protections relating to social origin apply in areas such as education and public employment, but socioeconomic status or personal wealth is not itself universally protected under anti-discrimination law.

The Grossdeutschebund has scored 68/100 for prevalence of diversity and 62/100 for respect for diversity. The country contains a number of distinct peoples who are afforded a wide range of rights to practise their religions and cultures freely. In addition, access to education and property is extensive and social attitudes are largely open-minded. However, there is a lack of legal protection from discrimination and observable imbalances can be seen among the sexes.

Geraluden has scored 81/100 for prevalence of diversity and 85/100 for respect for diversity. The country is incredibly diverse for its small population with a large foreign population, multiple religions practised, and a number of languages spoken. Legal protections against discrimination are extensive and social attitudes are widely positive.

Welves has scored 84/100 for prevalence of diversity and 85/100 for respect for diversity. Welves demonstrates remarkably high levels of prevalence and respect for diversity in every category with the exception of sexuality, where limited rights for homosexuals and transgenders, excepting anti-discrimination laws, along with negative social attitudes towards the LGBTQIA+ community, reduce the overall score.

NOTE: I will continue scoring tomorrow. I have a rough methodology for score calculation outlined that is weighted towards specific categories more than others.

The Socialist Republic of Kogure has scored 48/100 for prevalence of diversity and 60/100 for respect for diversity. The country is highly homogeneous with little internal difference among the people. Those differences that do exist are protected by an established system of anti-discrimination legislation that ensures social harmony.

The Alpine Republic of Tyrol has scored 80/100 for prevalence of diversity and 89/100 for respect for diversity. Tyrol is a small and largely homogeneous country when it comes to ethnocultural groups, but has notable minorities and a wide range of gender, sexual, and religious diversity. In addition, the legal regime provides extensive freedoms and anti-discrimination legislation to allow diversity to flourish in the country.

The Anocratic Empire has scored 50/100 for prevalence of diversity and 37/100 for respect for diversity. The country has very little diversity given its large population. While open-minded when it comes to sex and gender, religion is fiercely cracked down upon and anti-discrimination legislation across the board is weak where it does exist.

Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on age?: Yes, particularly in employment, housing, education and access to public services. Certain retirement, occupational safety and age-of-licensing requirements are exempt.

Sex
What is the male to female ratio?: Approximately 0.96 males for every 1 female.
Is there an imbalance in the workforce among the sexes?: No major overall imbalance. Women constitute approximately 48% of the employed workforce. Occupational differences remain, with men more heavily represented in heavy industry, construction, defence and extraction, while women remain more strongly represented in healthcare, education and social administration.
Is there an imbalance in education among the sexes?: No. Educational participation is effectively equal, with women holding a slight numerical majority among university students.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on sex?: Yes.
Does legislation exist to provide for sex-based positive discrimination schemes?: Limited schemes exist. These generally concern pregnancy and maternity protection, childcare provision, occupational recruitment in heavily imbalanced sectors, and targeted technical education rather than permanent employment quotas.

Location
What is the rural-to-urban population ratio?: Approximately 27% rural to 73% urban.
What percentage of the working population lives within a thirty minute commute of their place of work?: Approximately 71.4%, aided by dense public transport networks, planned residential districts and extensive rail, tram, bicycle and electric-scooter infrastructure.
What percentage of the population lives in a "remote area", defined as being more than two hours from the nearest urban centre by car?: Approximately 2.9%.
Is the internal migration of the non-criminal, citizen population legally restricted?: Generally no. Citizens may move between communes, although permanent relocation requires updating residence registration and arranging housing and employment within the receiving commune. Because much housing is publicly or cooperatively allocated, permanent relocation can involve more administration than simply moving privately.

Sexuality and Gender Identity
What percentage of the population is homosexual or bisexual?: Estimated at approximately 5.4%. The state does not routinely record sexual orientation, so this figure is based on anonymous demographic surveys.
What percentage of the population is transgender?: Estimated at approximately 0.3%.
What percentage of the population identifies with the label "LGBTQIA+": Approximately 1.6%. The label itself is not widely used in Dravanian public life, including among many homosexual or bisexual citizens.
Are homosexual acts legal?: Yes. Consensual homosexual activity between adults is legal.
Are same-sex unions legally permitted in any way?: No commune in Dravania legally recognises same-sex marriage, civil unions, registered partnerships, or any other formal same-sex union. However, some of the more socially progressive communes permit limited cohabitation rights for same-sex couples. These may include shared tenancy, inheritance arrangements, hospital visitation, household registration, and designation of beneficiaries. Such provisions are treated as practical civil arrangements rather than legal recognition of the relationship itself.
Is gender reassignment surgery legal?: Elective gender reassignment surgery is not legally permitted. Reconstructive procedures required for injury, congenital conditions or other recognised medical purposes remain legal.
If gender identity exists as a legal concept, can citizens legally register a change of gender?: No. Legal sex is not ordinarily alterable.
What percentage of the population supports the legality of same-sex unions?: Approximately 34%.
What percentage of the population supports the legality of gender reassignment?: Approximately 19%.
Does legislation exist to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity?: There are no specific anti-discrimination protections for sexual orientation or gender identity. However, all citizens are covered by general anti-discrimination laws governing employment, housing, education, public services, and access to state institutions, regardless of personal characteristics or lawful private conduct.
Does legislation exist to provide for positive discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity?: No.

Religion
How many religions are practised?: More than twenty registered religious traditions have active communities, although only a small number account for the overwhelming majority of religious citizens.
What percentage of the population profess belief in "the supernatural", a "higher deity", or a "cosmic force"?: Approximately 39%.
What percentage of the population identify with a religion?: 42%.
What percentage of the population identify as regular practitioners of a religion?: Approximately 17%.
What percentage of the population identify as irreligious, agnostic, or atheist?: 58%.
What are the most practised religions?: Roman Catholicism 21%, Eastern Orthodoxy 11%, Protestant Christianity 4%, Islam 2%, other religions 4%.
Are residents free to privately practise, or not practise, religion?: Yes. Private religious belief and worship are legal, provided they remain compliant with secular law.
Are residents free to publicly practise, or not practise, religion?: Yes, within limits. Registered places of worship may operate openly and organised religious ceremonies may be held, although use of public space, large processions and similar activities require commune permission. Religion is expected to remain outside ordinary political and governmental life.
Is the religious instruction of children permitted?: Yes, within families and registered religious communities. Religious instruction is not part of the compulsory public-school curriculum.
Is public proselytism permitted?: Generally no. Door-to-door proselytism, unsolicited street preaching, aggressive public recruitment and similar activity are restricted under public-order regulations.
Are private religious organisations permitted to organise independent institutions such as schools, charities, hospitals, or social clubs?: Registered religious organisations may operate charities, social clubs, community facilities and limited welfare organisations. Completely independent sectarian school or hospital systems are not generally permitted; education and healthcare institutions must remain within national accreditation and secular public-service standards.
Are all religions treated equally under the law?: Formally yes. Religious organisations are subject to the same registration, financial-disclosure, public-order and political-activity restrictions regardless of denomination.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on religion?: Yes.
Additional Questions
Does a public body to observe, regulate, or otherwise handle religious matters exist?: Yes. The Confederal Office for Religious Affairs operates under the Ministry of Education, Health, and Public Culture. It registers religious organisations, oversees recognised places of worship, monitors compliance with secular law, regulates public religious activity, maintains official religious statistics, and liaises between religious communities and commune authorities. It does not administer doctrine or appoint clergy.
Describe the extent of interreligious cohesion:: Generally high. Serious sectarian conflict is uncommon. Religion is expected to remain a private or communal matter rather than a basis for political organisation. Religious organisations may participate in charitable and community life, but religion is expected to remain outside public administration, electoral politics, lawmaking and the operation of state institutions. Religious arguments are not regarded as a legitimate basis for legislation, and public officials are expected to justify policy in secular civic terms rather than through doctrine or scripture.
Describe the extent to which religion is geographically concentrated: Catholicism is strongest in western and central rural regions, Orthodoxy has greater representation in eastern and southern communes, and Islam is concentrated primarily in several urban and port communities. Irreligion is most prevalent in Dravanis, major industrial centres and among younger urban populations.

Language
How many official languages exist at a national level?: 1
What are those official languages?: Dravanian
What is the most spoken language?: Dravanian
How many official languages exist at a subdivisional level?: 0 additional official languages. Dravanian is the sole official administrative language throughout every commune and the Free City of Dravanis.
How many languages have some legal but unofficial status at any level?: 0
How many languages are spoken, in total, by people-groups who have resided within the country for more than 150 years: Historically several regional languages and dialects existed, although Dravanian is now overwhelmingly dominant due to confederal efforts to promote national cohesion.
Does legislation exist to protect unofficial native minority (UNM) languages?: No specific legal protections exist for native minority languages.
Are speakers of UNM languages afforded the right to conduct public affairs in their language?: No. Public administration, courts, education, official records and commune affairs are conducted in Dravanian.
Are speakers of UNM languages able to access primary and secondary education in their language?: No. Dravanian is the language of public education throughout the Confederacy, although foreign and historical languages may be taught as academic subjects.
What percentage of UNM language speakers can speak an official language?: Effectively 100% among citizens educated within Dravania.
What percentage of the adult population are literate in an official language?: Approximately 99.5%.
What percentage of the adult population are proficient in at least one foreign language?: Approximately 34.7%.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on language?: Yes, in employment and access to public services, although citizens are still expected to possess sufficient Dravanian proficiency where required for work, education, administration or public safety.
Additional Questions
Does a public body exist to handle linguistic affairs in any capacity?: Yes. The Confederal Language Commission operates under the Ministry of Education, Health, and Public Culture. It maintains standard Dravanian, approves official spelling and grammar conventions, develops administrative and technical terminology, advises education authorities on language standards, and ensures consistency in the use of Dravanian across public institutions.
Approximately how many foreign languages are spoken by immigrants?: More than 40 are recorded in census and education statistics.
What percentage of the population speak a foreign language as their mother tongue?: Approximately 8.3%.

National and Ethnic Identity
How many native national or ethnic groups are there?: 1 major native national group, the Dravanians.
What percentage of the population belongs to a native national or ethnic group?: Approximately 88%.
What percentage of the population belongs to a foreign ethnic group?: Approximately 12%.
Does legislation exist to prohibit negative discrimination based on nationality or ethnicity?: Yes.
Does legislation exist to provide for positive discrimination based on nationality or ethnicity?: No general ethnic quota system exists. Limited integration and educational assistance may be provided to recent migrants where required.
Additional Questions
Describe the current status of ethnic or national cohesion:: High. Dravanian civic and national identity is strongly promoted, and ethnic separatism has little political presence. The country is culturally assimilationist, however, and newcomers are expected to learn Dravanian, participate in commune institutions, and adapt to established public norms. Official ideology places greater importance on citizenship, labour participation and loyalty to the Confederacy than on ethnic identity.
What percentage of the population adhere to "racist" and/or "xenophobic" beliefs?: Approximately 12%, depending on the definition used. Explicit racial supremacism is uncommon, while suspicion of foreigners and foreign political influence is somewhat more widespread.
What percentage of the population morally object to "racism" and/or "xenophobia"?: Approximately 81%.

Socioeconomic Status
What is the average yearly income in 2025 USD?: Not applicable. Dravania does not use a conventional salary system. Workers receive nationally regulated labour stipends based on occupational bands, while housing, healthcare, education, public transport and many essential services are provided publicly or heavily subsidised. Dravanian citizens do not ordinarily pay personal income tax, with taxation instead levied primarily upon employers, enterprises, production and other institutional sources.
What income is required to be in the top 1% of earners?: Not applicable in the conventional sense. Dravanian labour income is organised through nationally regulated stipend bands rather than an unrestricted salary market.
What income is required to be in the top 10% of earners?: Not applicable in the conventional sense. Occupational stipend bands determine ordinary base income rather than market salary percentiles.
What income is required to be in the top 50% of earners?: Not applicable in the conventional sense.
What percentage of the population are homeowners?: Approximately 8%. Conventional private freehold ownership is uncommon because most citizens occupy commune, public, cooperative or institutionally allocated housing under secure long-term tenure.
What percentage of the population have completed primary education?: 99.8%
What percentage of the population have completed secondary education?: 97.1%
What percentage of the population have received a qualification from a legally-recognised higher education institution?: 37.4%
What percentage of the population have debts at least 50% of the average yearly wage?: Not directly applicable using an average yearly wage, as Dravania does not use a conventional national salary measure. Significant personal debt is nevertheless uncommon because housing, healthcare and higher education do not normally require large private borrowing.
The average yearly wage of the poorest subdivision (GDP per capita PPP) is what percentage of the average yearly wage of the wealthiest subdivision?: Approximately 64% when measured through GDP per capita PPP rather than nominal wages. Confederal transfers, common stipend standards, infrastructure investment and commune equalisation policies limit regional differences in household living standards.
Does legislation exist to prohibit discrimination based on socioeconomic background?: Yes, particularly in education, employment, housing allocation, healthcare and access to public services.

The Dravanian Communes has scored 58/100 for prevalence of diversity and 50/100 for respect for diversity. The country is largely homogeneous but has a moderate level of anti-discrimination legislation to protect different peoples within it. It is largely permissive when it comes to granting civil liberties to different groups, however its approach to linguistic & cultural assimilation, as well as some regulation on religious groups, inhibits its score.

Alinghi has scored 87/100 for prevalence of diversity and 85/100 for respect for diversity. The country is large and diverse in all respects, with a constitution that allows for this diversity to flourish. People are afforded the freedoms to practice their own cultures, religions, and sexualities without intrusion.

Donistan has scored 76/100 for prevalence of diversity and 72/100 for respect for diversity. Donistan is dominated by a single ethnoreligious group but minorities are large and visible. Their rights and freedoms are mostly protected. While efforts are being made to progress gender equality, sexual minorities remain disadvantaged.

Prussia has scored 34/100 for prevalence of diversity and 22/100 for respect for diversity. The country is homogeneous and takes strict measures to assimilate the few minorities that reside within its borders. Culture and religion that differs from the dominant culture is disadvantaged, and sexual minorities have no freedoms to practice.
