[The CSEA]

The Collected Systems Expeditionary Alliance is a conglomeration of several star systems. These are Kashari and Dovi, the original homeplaces of the two member nations of the CSEA. After a number of years following the signing of the Cestus-2 Alliance Declaration, a joint expedition was mounted as a sign of integration. The result was the Resus System, where those of both nations can reside freely. All three systems are regarded as equally important components within the greater body of the Alliance.

Located in some of the furthest outreaches of the Delta Quadrant, the star systems are divided between two separate nations, the Kashar on their homeworld of Kashar'im and the Do'ha'radim on Archavelis. As a joint colony effort, Hellabestia, the main colony world in the Resus System is settled by both members of the Kashar and the Do'ha'radim.

As a technocracy, a nation ruled by an intellectual and scientific elite, only the best and brightest may progress to become one of the few ruling elite of the Collected Systems government. However, as a reflection of the meritocratic values at the heart of the nation, anyone, be they from the lowest gutters of the deepest Kashar caverns may rise to power.

As a technocratic nation, the CSEA places great effort on intellectual achievement, and the society as a whole is geared towards the pursuit of knowledge. From birth, children of both the Do'ha'radim and the Kashar are educated extensively, and the society of both races looks down upon low academic achievement. It is in fact not uncommon for families to ostracise members who demonstrate low academic ability, and this societal stain is often carried on to the descendants of those under-achievers.

The members of the CSEA possess 'soulstones' which can harness their soul at the point of death. A special device known as a Lazarus Construct is capable of interacting with the soul, and allowing it the ability to project itself as a three-dimensional image capable of speaking with living beings. However, the many years since this device was created mean that a rivalry has grown between the sentient AI's used by the CSEA, and the returned souls.

Due to the long centuries of their acquisition of technical knowledge, the CSEA possesses highly-advanced technology. Throughout its history the CSEA has researched many avenues of technological progression, including both military and civilian designs. A brief summary of the various technologies can be found below;

The Quantum Teleportation Delivery System (QTDS, often pronounced Cute-dis) is the Alliance's main method of colonisation. Specially designed survey pods are launched into deep space, there to survey entire planetary systems. From there on, it will spend around a month to survey the whole system. Should a probe discover a viable site for colonists to land on, or alternatively discover something unusual such as an unidentified elemant in the planet's structure it will begin the descent protocol to allow it to land on the planet's surface at the target location.

Once down the probe will deploy out into a platform housing a series of quantum receivers, allowing a designated advance AEU (Armoured Environmental Unit) to teleport through from the homeworld of Archavelis.

Molecular Assembler

The Constructs are widely used within Alliance society. Adapted from a device of unknown origin that was found deep within a cavern under the surface of Kashar'im, the Lazarus Construct (So named after the word found etched onto the side of the device) is used to harness what is known as a 'soulstone'. When a soulstone off a bearer who was successfully rited into it is inserted into a Construct, the visual likeness of the wearer is projected as a hologram. Were this all that it did, the Lazarus Construct would be nothing more than a memorial device.

However, the Construct is extraordinary for other reasons. Not only does the device project the inhabitant's likeness, the projection also has the full personality and traits of the inhabitant, even down to using their voice. In fact, not only does this allow the inhabitant to communicate fully with others, the inhabitant is fully self-aware of their demise. As such, it is not uncommon for a family to house Lazarus Shrines, where Constructs containing the deceased beloved are kept. A rare few Constructs are also used by the military to allow every new generation of Aspirants to learn from their collected wisdom.

Artificial Intelligences are most common within the military and industrial fields of the Alliance. Military-grade AI's are used to act as advisers for a Shipmaster if used in the Fleet, or as unit sub-commanders if a Dec. Because of the access that AI's can have to secure databases or to the processors of drone military equipment, Alliance AI's are built to include significant numbers of safeguards, loyalty programmes and dead-break destruction protocols.
