Artists and Bands from YN

Postby The Web Citadel » Sun Oct 13, 2024 12:37 am

this was a topic a while ago, but i think it's too old to dig up so i thought i'd start it fresh.

What are some notable musicians that originate from your nation? Are they known for playing pre-existing music genres, or did they help form more regional genres? What is their influence on your nation's culture - are they national icons or more underground?

Band/Artist Name: Luce
Location: Humenné, Omišalia
Birth/Formation: 2016
Death/Disbandment: 2024 (on hiatus)
Genres: Alternative rock, pop punk, pop rock
Label: Macrotone Records

Biography: Luce (from Slovak "lúče" (rays)) was founded by high school friends Laura Vajanská (vocals and drums) and Alex Orosz (guitar) in 2016. They were soon joined by bassist Viktor Hegedüs and drummer Adam Horváth. After recording a demo EP in 2017 at their school, they were encouraged to send the EP to Macrotone Records (Omišalia's largest record label) by their music teacher Ferenc Mészáros. Orosz made nationwide headlines in 2017 when he became the youngest candidate for mayor in Omišalian history, running for the mayorality of his hometown of Békešská Čaba at the age of 20.

They were signed to Macrotone Records in 2018 and started work on their debut studio album. Horváth was removed from the band due to a criminal charge, and the band scrapped his drum parts entirely, causing the album to be delayed. Through their contacts with Mészáros, they managed to get Vit Povýšil (the lead singer of the alternative rock band The Unheard Generation and the post-hardcore band Rieka) to perform drums on their debut album.

In January 2021, the band announced a second studio album and their intention to submit an entry to Hit Roka, a popular national televised song contest in Omišalia. In the period between their first and second albums, the band had changed its drummer twice. In June 2021, the band won Hit Roka in a landslide with their song "Lullaby", which also became an international hit due to its popularity on social media platforms.

Following the success of their single Lullaby, they toured through 7 European countries in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the band continued touring. However, as lead singer Laura Vajanská was unavailable for personal reasons, they temporarily invited Júlia Čiliak as lead singer.

In 2024, the band announced their third studio album, called "padnúte motýle", which was described as "more abrasive" than their previous efforts. However, lead singer Laura Vajanská passed away in July 2024. Following Vajanská's death, the band announced that it would enter a hiatus following the release of their third studio album, as well that it would organize a tribute concert for Vajanská.

Luce was generally described as an alternative rock band, although some of their songs used unclean vocals, with their lyrics being in Slovak or English. The band's inspirations included artists like Paramore and Avril Lavigne.

Members: Laura Vajanská - lead vocals (2016-2024), drums (2016-2018, 2020)
Alex Orosz - guitars, unclean vocals (2016-2024)
Skylar Reints - drums (2020-2024)
Luka Fekete - bass (2019-2024)
Aleksandra Pivovar - backing vocals (2022-2024)

Former members:
Júlia Čiliak - backing vocals (2022-2023); lead vocals (2023, filling in for Laura Vajanská)
Viktor Hegedüs - bass guitar (2017-2019)
Adam Horváth - drums (2017-2019)
Vít Povýšil (session musician) - drums, backing vocals (2019)
Michal Mlynár - drums (2019-2020)

Artist Name: Luïako
Location: Ponaiga, Safiloa
Birth/Formation: 21 March 1988
Genres: Seggae, Pop Folk, Electronic Dance
Label: N/A

Biography:
Luïako, born on 21 March 1988 in Ponaiga, Safiloa, is a pioneering singer whose unique blend of Seggae, Pop Folk, and Electronic Dance has made them one of Safiloa’s most influential artists. Combining traditional Safiloan sounds with modern rhythms, Luïako’s music reflects the vibrant, multicultural spirit of their homeland.

Known for their soulful voice and powerful stage presence, Luïako has built a career that spans both cultural preservation and innovation. Singing primarily in Sokhainean, English, and Swahili, their lyrics touch on themes of love, unity, and social justice, often drawing from Safiloan folklore and natural landscapes for inspiration.

Though independent and not signed to any major label, Luïako’s influence has grown steadily, both within Safiloa and internationally, thanks to their captivating performances and deep connection to their roots. Their versatility allows them to seamlessly transition between soothing folk ballads and high-energy dance anthems, making them a favorite at festivals across the globe.

Luïako’s journey from local talent to international sensation has been fueled by their passion for music and commitment to their Safiloan heritage. Over the years, they have garnered a loyal following and have become a symbol of Safiloa’s evolving cultural identity.

Albums:
Wavaña (2010)

Ivi Maha (2018)
Marking a shift towards more upbeat, dance-oriented tracks, Ivi Maha celebrates love and unity. Standout songs like "Vibe of the Shore" and "Unity Pulse" became anthems for festivals and parties, showcasing Luïako’s versatility as a performer.

Seafo Ra (2022)

Biography
Inspired by 1960s prog-pop, 1970s post-punk, 1980s folk, and 1990s extreme metal, Rusted Iron Horse never enjoyed popularity until the Einaroan democratic revolution, where its music was used heavily by protesters. However, popularity never mattered to the group, as their primary focus was creativity and non-conformity. Much of their content revolves around oppression, death, and political commentary, and have inspired their own contemporaries, such as The Anchored Vessels, to shift from rock to metal and take up similar commentary.

Death/Disbandment:2021

Biography:
T.A.C.T – A Journey Through Hip-Hop and Beyond

T.A.C.T was a well-known hip-hop collective that made a significant impact on the local music scene. Formed by five members—Safliminal (Udin Iosuf), Jazeel (Azari Jazil), Si-One (Dayang Siwan), Shi-365° (Shirazi Ahmad), and Mushqil (Mutaqim Talib)—the group quickly gained recognition for their unique blend of lyrical skill, cultural influences, and authentic storytelling.
At the height of their success, T.A.C.T didn’t just dominate the charts—they also built a platform for future talents. Establishing their own label, T.A.C.T Records (later rebranded as D.H Entertainment), they were instrumental in bringing fresh voices to the forefront of the hip-hop scene. Through their label, they launched successful acts such as Kaumic, No-V, The Maximum, as well as solo artists like Safir Hadad and Mawelewi. These artists, often mentored by T.A.C.T, went on to shape the next wave of the local music scene, further solidifying the group's influence.
Despite their musical achievements, T.A.C.T disbanded in 2021 following a significant turn in their leader Safliminal’s life. He was appointed be Spokesperson of Minister of Defence by Defence Minister His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Pengiran Ibrahim IV Ali Omaruddin, son of Sultan Ibrahim III Ali Omar Shah.
With Safliminal’s move into politics, the group’s dynamic changed drastically. Other members transitioned into different fields—Jazeel joined the police force, while Si-One, Shi-365°, and Mushqil pursued careers in acting and modelling.
T.A.C.T's disbandment marked the end of an era, but their influence remains. Their contributions to the local hip-hop culture, both musically and in artist development, left an indelible mark that continues to shape the industry today.

Band/Artist Name: Conjunto Los Walter's
Location: Carles, Iloílo Province
Birth/Formation: 1954
Death/Disbandment:
Genres: Salsa, merengue, cha-cha, rumba, cumbia, calypso, Latin music
Label: RCA de Panay

Biography:
Formed by a certain group of friends in Carles, Los Walter's were a group of musicians from other parts of the coastal Iloílo Province. The original vocalist and bassist, León Miguel Adachi was the first vocalist of the group until his death in 2021, replaced by his son, Rodolfo Adachi. They are known for being the "nation's #1 orchestra" because it produced a many of hits, including their cover of Juan Gabriel's "Hasta te que conocí" in 1994, their first hit "Besando en la luna" (Kissing in the moon) by their trumpeter Adolfo Samuel Vargas, and some of their covers of Celia Cruz and many Latin American artists, they even covered the Argentine great Alberto Castillo's "Siga el baile", which is one of Panayenses' sporting anthems. Speaking of sports, they are also bringing theme songs for every sport, even also sporting broadcast. An example of that is the their song "Tumbao pa' la selección rugbiero" (The Rugby National Team's Tumbao) also known for its line of "¡Siga pa'lante!" (Go Forward!) which they were exalting the greats and invite all Panayenses to see them win. They also did a song on football too, but too popular, called "Adelante mi selección" (Come On, My Team) when European clubs traveled to the islands in the 60s. Even though they changed members from time to time, the band is considered a pop culture icon of the islands.
