Where did the motto come from? Who said/wrote it, and in what context? The peoples composing the Monarchy Diarcesian are of a great variety of ethnicities and social norms, but are united by the ideals that coalesced at the time of Arkess.

To the naive outsider, the seven cities of Old Diarcesia during the 9^th Century can be considered of united Hellenic heritage. Upon closer inspection, nothing could be further from the truth. In the isolation of their peninsula, with contact to the outside world only possible through trade routes that for some months at a time are cut off because of the tempestuous weather, the denizens of each city see their fellow Hellenics in the other cities as barbarians. Uniting them was an almost impossible task.

By the time Arkess succeeded in this feat, a consensus formed among the original Diarcesians. The cultural glue that would maintain the cities' cooperation would hinge on the two concepts of archa (lit. 'beginning') and telus (lit. 'end'). To the Diarcesians, these mean much more than its literal meaning; the archa is the audacity to set ideas into motion, and the telus is the tenacity to see it to completion. When the disputants were shown the looming threat of the Hylvorians, they understood the gravity of these concepts.
