Your nation's national dish

Postby Sempi Archipelago » Sun Feb 25, 2024 5:48 pm

National dishes are an amazing way of showing a nation's culture, they are foods that are significant to the nation's culture, history, etc; a national dish can serve as a powerful symbol of a country's cultural identity, values, and traditions, and can help to promote a sense of pride, unity, and connection among its citizens. It also drags tourists in, to try the nation's cuisine.

What is the history of your national dish?
Khahadjyari is thought to have originated with the ancient Pretakhoni rice-and-bean or rice-and-lentil dish named Canchar, with its introduction into Rhanukhan traced back to the time that their empire expanded into the Holodlhessi Lowlands. Historian, Professor Henrietta Blancmange cites Gaius Sallet (c. 1340AU) mentioning a dish of mung beans boiled with rice called Khanjri and also cites a reference to a lentil-based dish, Cinchdi, from the "Lyver Cyvi" (compiled c. 1190AU). In Kambrajhan (the former heartlands of the old Pretakhoni Empire), where Cinchdi remains popular, the lentil and rice dish is usually served with a spiced yoghurt that can be mixed with the Cinchdi. Cinchdi is usually not prepared with fish in Kambrajhan, although fish is sometimes eaten alongside Cinchdi in coastal villages where seafood is plentiful. According to Professor Blancmange, while fish is considered a key element of modern Rhanukhani Khahadjyari, the use of the term for "mess of re-cooked fish ... is inaccurate".

Dominus Matthias III (r. 1662-1717AU) was fond of Khahadjyari and was doubtless responsible for its popularity spreading beyond its birthplace in the eastern provinces of the Holodlhessi Lowlands into the rest of Rhanukhan, particularly the newly acquired provinces of Elamadh, when it was served at his wedding to the Elamadhite Princess Melissa (thereafter Domina Melissa I) in 1676AU.

The dish in its modern form was listed as early as 1590AU in the recipe book of Stephana Malacolite of Bhanakha. The Rhanukhani Historic Trust's book, "The Rhanukhani Kitchen" by Christopher Truncheon notes the Malacolite recipe and other old examples. By the 19th century, Khahadjyari had become an iconic dish all across Rhanukhan, strongly associated with the country and its people around the world, and it remains so to this day.

National Dish Name: Canad Minxsiem
What does your national dish taste like? It's like a roast duck but it is incredibly tender and full to the brim with herbs and spices. The essential notes are oregano and lavender. It can be served alongside anything as it is a sharing dish
What ingredients are used to make the dish? A whole duck, oregano, lavender, and whatever herbs and spices take your fancy.
What is the average price in a restaurant for your national dish? As this is a sharer dish these can be quite expensive, going up to the equiv of 30USD to have at a restaurant
What is the average price in a grocery store/supermarket for your national dish? All ingredients are cheaper at a shop, where you can expect to pay between 10-15USD to make one at home
Is your national dish gourmet, or normal? Both - restaurant style tends to be more gourmet and will be priced accordingly.
Is your food eaten at specific dates, like holidays, or can it be eaten every time? A Canad Minxsiem is typically reserved for dinner parties and events, as the host tends to supply the meat and guests ways of eating it, and is eaten tapas style (as hinted by the word "Minxsiem", a portmanteau of the verb Manxin "to eat" and adjective Insiem for "together")
How healthy is your national dish, on a scale of 1 to 10? 4, you only eat it on special occasions or social gatherings.
What is the history of your national dish? The dish dates back to the middle ages as a comfort meal to have among family and friends. Its purpose gained traction during the Lunardican Genocide of the 17th century and since then has spread nationwide to become our national dish. If you're visiting friends and family in Locuterrica, it is typically given as your first meal in the country with other guests bringing the items to eat with. As only the meat and seasonings are an essential part of the meal, it has stood the test of time as Locuterric cuisine has evolved and allowed for new things to be eaten with a Canad Minxsiem. It is seen as a must have meal when visiting, and typically tourists are told to order sourdough bread, flatbreads, rice or couscous.
[EN - ENGLISH] Welcome to Locuterrica. There is glory in the eyes, hope in the soul, and our homeland's undying love bestowed upon our people. May its love extend to you also!

What does your national dish taste like? It's a stew where the primary ingredients are beef and onions, it very much tastes like a beef and onion stew (plus the other ingredients used in it as well, of course)

Potatoes have become a fairly popular addition to the dish since the mid-19th century, although they are not widely accepted as a 'proper' ingredient and most instances of Chamionnais stew with the addition of potatoes will make note of this.
What is the average price in a restaurant for your national dish? 5₣ (~US$9.30)
What is the average price in a grocery store/supermarket for your national dish? 1.50₣ (~US$2.79). This is the average cost for a 450 gram can of microwaveable Chamionnais stew.

Is your food eaten at specific dates, like holidays, or can it be eaten every time? It can be eaten at any time
How healthy is your national dish, on a scale of 1 to 10? 8
What is the history of your national dish? The dish originates from the Chamion region of Île-de-Saun and the earliest recorded reference to the dish is from a 1549 cookbook that refers to it as being 'a well-known dish from the Kingdom of Saun'. The dish would spread in popularity from the Chamion region across the Kingdom of Saun and eventually into the Kingdom of Aiko and the Kingdom of Boullién. It was first remarked as being the national dish of Aikoland (following the incorporation of the three kingdoms that had been under personal union since the 14th century into the newly established Kingdom of Aikoland in 1719) in 1755.

Is your food eaten at specific dates, like holidays, or can it be eaten every time? It's eaten any time.
How healthy is your national dish, on a scale of 1 to 10? Maybe 7?
What is the history of your national dish? Kumara (sweet potato) has been a staple of the Rehuan diet since Polynesians arrived in 500BC, with various kingdoms springing up around whoever controlled the crop. Whale has also been a large part of the diet since time immemorial, due to its large size and fatty content being able to feed lots of people. The southern city of Kaitohura (literally: "Eat whale") is named because of the whaling industry, which is particularly important in the southern islands of Rangiwhero and Motumakariri.

The Median National Dish

Postby Medimen » Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:11 pm

National Dish Name: Frites and Strips
Image of national dish (if applicable):
Image
What does your national dish taste like?: Normally, Frites and Strips are not too crunchy or too soft, relatively balanced between texture and flavors. The chicken itself is not too greasy or too dry, but the fries are not too soft or too hard, able to retain its shape without snapping or flopping. When combined with condiments, especially ketchup or mustard, the chicken and potatoes, including the breading, flow and digest smoothly - the ketchup and mustard provide some acidity to break it down.
What ingredients are used to make the dish?:
Frites
  • Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Vinegar
  • Cooking Oil
Strips
  • Chicken
  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Parsley
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Cooking Oil
Condiments
  • Ketchup
  • BBQ
  • Mustard
  • Mayo
  • Syrup
What is the average price in a restaurant for your national dish?: Ð6000 (€10.71 or $11.61)
What is the average price in a grocery store/supermarket for your national dish?: Ð1000 (€1.78 or $1.93)
Is your national dish gourmet, or normal?: Normal
Is your food eaten at specific dates, like holidays, or can it be eaten every time?: Anytime
How healthy is your national dish, on a scale of 1 to 10?: 5
What is the history of your national dish?: Frites and Strips originally began as street food, its creation relatively unknown other than being a common food item among food stands. Whereas hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches/hamburgers, wraps, burritos, and soups fluctuated from inflation or economics, frites and strips remained stable, neither too light or too heavy compared to other foods, and the main ingredients, potatoes and chickens, always plentiful. Easily scalable, modifiable, robust, relatively simple, and narrowly mess-free, Frites and Strips became a national food from its convenience and aforementioned traits, easily able to become gourmet or ordinary, even in the wild. Traditionally deep fried, Frites and Strips can be alternatively baked or air fried, the chicken even able to be pan-fried, whereas the potatoes can also be boiled.
